[break][break] What is of use to me, and how do I acquire and make it my own? Out of all possible philosophies in the world, this is likely the one that best describes Kurogane. [break][break] Largely a product of his upbringing, Kurogane's mind is typically focused on one thing and one thing only - power, and how to achieve it. Personal, political, it doesn't matter. All forms of it are connected, and obtaining it in one form makes it easier to balance the equation. Ruthless and driven, societal norms don't mean much to Kurogane beyond how they affect those around him, and how they can be twisted and used to his own advantage - and, for that reason, the man has become a nearly perfect actor, able to fit into nearly any role the world demands of him at a given moment. Where attaining his goals among colleagues allows him to be himself, in public most would be none the wiser - calm, helpful and generally quite courteous, the man had managed to go so far as to not only avoid suspicion during his time on the run in Johto but befriend a number of individuals in the regional police force and safely interact on a regular basis. [break][break] That is not to say that the man is the textbook definition of evil, however, as the idea of a "Noble Demon" is probably far closer to the truth. Kurogane does hold himself to a set of rather strict standards, and while many of them have been born out of pragmatism - killing when avoidable isn't only attention drawing, it's wasteful - certain other rules that the man have set for himself would be entirely arbitrary if they didn't tie into his own personal definition of "honor". [break][break] First, Kurogane will never lie. Ever. As someone who prides himself as a businessman (or at least a criminal of higher class), deliberate deception isn't only likely to result in problems later, but also likely to deter other possible partners and clients later on - few people are willing to work with or trust someone who has a history of abusing said trust. Second, jobs aren't half assed. If you're going to do something you do it right, with the only acceptable exceptions to that being when things do not go as planned and force a change on the spot. Third, if you are partners with someone, you do not betray them. While this somewhat ties into Kurogane's first self imposed rule, it likewise extends to his judgement of other people - they are among the few people that Kurogane does not tolerate, period, and the few individuals that he will go out of his way to torment and ruin. Likewise, just as Kurogane holds himself to these standards he expects those who work with and under him to as well - certainly not to the same degree and definitely not if it endangers them or, more importantly, his goals and operations, but those who do tend to be treated extremely well for their efforts and generally earn his respect.
