before the slateport invasion, he would make a sport of it; seeing how far in-land he could go, and back again. how quickly, a race against himself. the hydreigon flew fast, but he mostly wanted to see how fast a garchomp actually was. never did get around to it.

the hydreigon lands heavily, dust billowing around the point where his legs make contact with the earth, all three heads panting. dominic slides off the pokemon's back in a single fluid, cat-like movement. he is uncharacteristically pleased, patting one of the heads as it nudged him in the shoulder, before movement in the grass demands his attention.

their presence has evidently disturbs a roosting bird pokemon, highlighted first by a trilling call cutting through the air, and secondly by the beating of wings, a black shadow as it hurtles towards the pair in a flurry of dark feathers.

the scream of its hyper voice makes dominic flinch, clenching his teeth against the pain in his ears, but the dragon-type at his side seems barely bothered. he could catch it one of his three mouths, snap the neck and cast it aside. he doesn't, instead returning the auditory assault with one of his own.

a ferocious roar is enough for the trumbeak to steer clear of the pair, quick to divert its path back to the grass as if knowing it just avoided a very grim fate.

in truth, he doesn't like the wilderness. something about the open spaces and lack of movement makes him skirt on paranoia. a calm before the storm feeling that he can't quite suppress no matter how idiotic he objectively knows it is. where kanto's wilds are - were - spurts of nature between urbanised land, hoenn's untamed majesty makes him uneasy.

dominic hates to admit it, but like a moth to a flame, he craves a city's lights.

he's walking alongside the hydreigon, following a small manmade flight of steps to a lake to allow the pokemon to cool off and drink his fill. lost in his own thoughts, he barely notices a pokemon by the wayside, resting its striped body in the sun. no point attacking one another; the wild pokemon is content to rest and dominic feels uncharacteristically melancholic.

they ignore one another.

across from them, a pokemon touches the water before bending down to drink, sending ripples across the surface. dominic inclines his head to watch with interest.

despite owning several of the pokemon traditionally not native to kanto, he still was unfamiliar with the vast majority of them. especially with the weaker, smaller ones. the nuzleaf doesn't appear afraid of him, not even with the hydreigon at his shoulder. much like the dunsparce, it looks inclined to ignore him entirely.

he doesn't ask for permission and throws the pokeball out of genuine curiosity for the pokemon's future potential.
