The woman's body tenses in preparation for rough handling, but instead is coaxed closer with a touch that was far more gentle than the one she'd experienced from him the night before. [break][break]

But the difference is not unwelcome, nor is the hold he has on her waist. The deeper and deeper they kiss, the stronger he holds on, the closer he pulls her; as if she is his lifeline, his safety harness preventing him from falling.[break][break]

Like pieces in a puzzle, one with a thousand pieces that all look the same but don't quite fit right, they connect. Emma exhales, pulling apart just long enough to tease him further. She pulls back but takes him with her, at ease pinned beneath his body.[break][break]

Their dance this time would be slow and far more intimate, one designed to memorize and appreciate rather than consume.

she pulls him in, and he lets her. for once, control is given freely, and it's a... strange feeling. there's something vulnerable in him that rises to the surface, but, in the face of what she is offering he buries it. the guilt. hatred. anger. sorrow. regret. they all wash away, and he indulges in what is in front of him.

when they finish this time, there's a far more noticeable sheen on both of their skins. sheets lay crumpled, and pillows are strewn about. flesh is relatively in-tact, with fewer noticeable wounds; only remnants of where her fingers had buried into her back, and traces of her kisses on his neck.

king lies there, her scent heavy on him, chest rising and falling heavily. eyes meet the blank canvas of the ceiling, and for once, no intrusive thoughts come to him. his hand unconsciously is wrapped around the woman, as her head rests on his chest.

most surprising of all, perhaps, is his silence.

Her eyes are squeezed shut, her body perfectly still - too still - against his chest. She focuses on the rise and fall of his chest, the rhythm of his breathing, anything but the guilt that trickles in at the back of her mind. [break][break]

Instead, she tries to hold onto the ache, the relief, the warmth. [break][break]

"So.. the only time you're quiet is when we're fucking. I might have to take advantage of that."[break][break]

The woman's voice is barely above a whisper, but it is delivered with an amused growl meant to push buttons. Even despite the sarcasm behind her tone, Emma sighs against his chest and tucks her cheek just a little bit closer.

her comment pulls a chuckle out of him, soft, quiet, subdued. still, his chest vibrates with it, and air is pushed from his nostrils. her warmth was comforting, when he usually only felt cold. he doesn't question what this is. doesn't want too. right now, he just wants to be here, in the moment. relaxed.

Emma rolls her eyes, dramatic enough that he may feel her eyelashes fan his skin. [break][break]

"Hm."[break][break]

Her thumb idly strokes his chest, gentle against the scar. For a moment, the thought occurs to her to inquire about it. She refrains, naturally, because those questions always lead down a rabbit hole of dark thoughts and unfriendly memories. Best to not.[break][break]

He had his demons just like she had hers.[break][break]

The mention of food, paired with the friction of his hand stroking her arm brings her attention up to study his face. She begins to pull away, dark hair spilling against his skin and her own like pools of ink. [break][break]

"That's my cue."[break][break]

Unease returns to settle in her chest. It feels like an anxious, desperate butterfly trapped in her throat. She lets his arm drop from her arm and she makes her way around the room to dress herself.

her lack of response says another chuckle through him. her touch is soft on his marred, pink scar. the warmth of her hand is amplified, and he finds himself subtly tensing beneath her fingers. it was if his weakest point was exposed and left to bare.

then she peels away, hair tickling chest and abdomen.
[break][break]
king feels the tension; sees the nerves that bundle behind her eyes. while she moves to dress, he kicks his feet over the bed's edge. another cigarette is lit and held between fingers, a smoke trail slowly rising upwards to break on the ceiling.

"running again, ace?"
[break][break]

there's a steady, almost unnatural calm in his voice. king avoids looking at her for a moment, before taking another drag. nicotine floods him, filling an emptiness that was slowly starting to form again.

tongue flits across dehydrated lips, her taste and the cigarette's own blending into one.

only once the smoke clears from the second pull, does he meet her gaze.

Every time he laughs she is reminded of something that feels out of reach. Something dangerous and unpredictable that spoke of security, of intimacy, of home.[break][break]

Something she couldn't have. Something she couldn't allow herself to have.[break][break]

Emma is tugging her shirt over her head, hands reaching back to pull her hair through. Her eyes scan the room in search of something, but she finds it wrapped around King's wrist. The woman blinks, eyes slowly drawing their way back up to meet his gaze. [break][break]

She approaches, holding her hand out for him to return the hair elastic.

he looks down at the hair tye on his wrist, then to her, a coy smiling forming on his lips. quick as a viper, he grabs her wrist, and pulls her in onto the bed.

She sees it coming but she doesn't move to stop it. She could have, probably, but she didn't. Instead, her body is twisted and pushed into the bed and strong arms cage her in on either side.

There is a flash of teeth, the smell of sweat, of their night spent overindulging.

But there is also the rapid beat of her heart as she stares up at him. His grip relaxes and she continues to lay there staring.

"... just breakfast."

when they both finally get ready, he brings her to a place just on the edge of town. inside, it's a bit cramped, with only a handful of tables, but, even less patrons. it gave every bit the vibe of a true 'hole-in-the-wall' type of eatery. not only that, it was ran by a lovely, older couple.

She doesn't know, truly, what she'd been expecting. But a quaint, quiet, hole-in-the wall establishment wasn't it, either. Even as she sits down and surveys the room, looking every bit the uncomfortable, out-of-place predator she is, she begins to relax.

"I don't."

At least, not breakfast - or any truly scheduled meal for that matter. She ate when necessary and when convenient, and had never been one for restaurants and eyes lingering on the back of her neck.

Public appearances and being 'normal' was something Gavin had been encouraging her to experience.

In spite of her cold response, the woman's hand slides across the table to find the menu. She opens it, eyes scanning the choices in silence.

Emma's eyes remain glued to the menu. Nothing jumps out at her because for her, none of this matters. For her, this is a numb attempt to go through the motions, a painful reminder of what she'd had and lost. Like sand slipping through her fingers.

Nothing here is familiar - and yet everything is.

"Hm."

Eyes peer across the table to meet her, and she's stubborn at first in returning the gesture. But he is persistent, and his hand reaches across to lower the menu. Slowly, the woman allows him to lower it fully.

"Fine."

Though truth be told, she'd had every intention of letting him choose for her.
