Following the unholy events in which a forest shrine caught on fire... Emma had been thinking very hard about her severe lack of fire-fighting capabilities. Given that her team was not incredibly diverse and carried a fair amount of bug-type Pokemon, it was starting to become a problem. A hazard, even.[break][break]

So, as a result, Emma remained on route 103 to try and find a particular water-type to add to her team. Of course, such lush forested locations warranted a random array of bugs.. but she hoped that traversing the route in the middle of the rain might help bring out what she wanted most.[break][break]

Unfortunately, she also hated the rain. Unlike the cold of snow and ice, rain seeped into the skin and made you feel even colder. It also makes your clothes cling to your skin and limit movement. So, Emma Wolfe wasn't in the more endearing off moods this afternoon.[break][break]

Her thin-boned hands gripped the black umbrella she held tight. Rain slipped off the top of the fabric in fat droplets, and the rain continued to beat down on her with a steady noise. It sort of faded into white noise, something that she didn't even hear anymore.[break][break]

Crobat weaves in and out of the trees occasionally, showing up just in Emma's line of sight to, unfortunately, reiterate to her that he hadn't found what she was looking for.[break][break]

There's a splash in a nearby puddle. The steady drip of rain has created several pools of muddy, grassy water at the base of several trees.[break][break]

Emma looks over at the sudden noise, as it didn't quite match with the serene calmness of the surroundings. Crobat reappears suddenly, also alerted by this sudden noise. Unfortunately, the Pokemon doesn't resemble a spider in any way, and Emma loses interest.[break][break]

The Poliwhirl also takes little note of Emma and her Crobat. He's more than content to splash around in his makeshift pool. The creature blows bubbles into the water, gleefully squeezing his eyes shut as he enjoys himself.[break][break]

"Keep moving, Crobat."[break][break]

He nods, swiftly taking off in a separate direction. Emma sighs, sidestepping the beginning of a new puddle. She'd rather not get her shoes wet.[break][break]

Emma looks up in shock as she overhears the sound of a scuffle. There's some sort of shrieking noise, like Crobat is engrossed in a fight.[break][break]

Her footsteps quicken as she takes a sharp left into the trees. Until now, she had been walking the beaten path and avoiding deep puddles of water.[break][break]

It doesn't take her long to discover Crobat locked in a vicious battle with exactly what they were searching for. [break][break]

The Dewpider stands valiantly against Crobat's attacks, butting its bubble-head angrily whenever the bat attempts to get in close. Her companion's body is soaking wet from this and furiously shaking off droplets.[break][break]

"Are you so easily bested by such a tiny creature? Pathetic."[break][break]

She promptly returns the Crobat, much to his dismay. [break][break]

With the threat now gone, the Dewpider makes for his escape. Emma is not so willing to let him go, however.[break][break]

"Not so fast.."[break][break]

With a flick of her wrist, Joltik appears from a different pokeball. The tiny yellow spider shivers as a fat drop of water lands on her head. She blinks, staring up at Emma with awe.[break][break]

"Please retrieve him."[break][break]

At once, the Joltik springs forward, spraying electric webs at the Dewpider. The tiny spider is unprepared for this attack, assuming that the threat has vanished. He soon succumbs to the attack and is soon dragged back to Emma. Joltik stares up at her master, waiting for some sort of praise.[break][break]

Of course, Emma doesn't really give it, but it's enough for Joltik to see how pleased she is that she's now collected three spiders.[break][break]

Emma tosses a pokeball at the unconscious Dewpider before she readjusts her umbrella and makes her way back to Oldale town.[break][break]
