the sheer impact of the attack creates a newfound distance that grants raichu the spacing it needs. a fine powder conceals the pokemon but the metang doesn't stop. it knows better and starts to advance. the jagged THUNDERBOLT that erupts from the cover lands with little resistance. the tingles of an unexpected surge is enough to rattle the pokemon's sharply lit pupils. still, it persists, faltering in the air but still carrying on as it steadies itself.

distance is created but cut off by the same show of AGILITY that makes the pokemon seem like more of a vehicle than a living being. it comes forth again, ready to deliver another METEOR MASH. metang may have more moves than its previous form but the attack pattern is no different then the beldum it once was.

attack, attack, attack - until nothing is left.

the perplexing advance in a swift and lost pace may be foreboding in the eyes of alex. humans stood no chance against these creatures. it was only them — and them alone that could clash on equal grounds.

he does not say anything for his confidence withholds the capability of his friend. raichu is just as quick.

a rounded tail is enveloped by the pearly hue. it slams down onto the poised fist with a prominent display of iron tail. the counter is not meant to penetrate the defense of metang. instead jasp uses it to propel backwards once more. wagering on the space it would provide. if the other would not offer them a chance than neither would they do the same.

thunderbolt comes crashing downwards once more. the feeble pokemon moving around with each bolt fluctuating outwards in a serious of pauses.

the hidden energy trespasses through the coverage of the dangerous element as raichu uses it to move around more quickly. eventually it breaks the distance. another thunder punch is directed its way.

the downward momentum of the IRON TAIL is more then enough to divert the trajectory of the punch. the sudden force is unexpected and brings the fist lower then it should be. the jab misses entirely, flying right under the raichu's frame as it bounds backwards, creating a momentary gap.

fernando smiles as the battle unfolds. quite impressive. he makes a note of alex's lacks of commands and surmises that it comes from their innate bond. jasp's is special, something that alex holds close. unfortunately, fernando cannot say the same.

the THUNDER PUNCH connects in the same manner as before. however, this time the pokemon does more then come forward with a METEOR MASH. it may have dissuaded the attack before but this time the metang expects it. a technique only catches it by surprise once. never twice. a fist comes forward but the inertia does not stop with just a ramming punch, the pokemon puts its entire body behind the blow, ready to have its fist pushed aside - making way for it to follow up with an equally powered ZEN HEADBUTT.

dwindling in distance is all that is needed. the measly limb of jasp isn't enough to buffet the metallic creature into the jagged surface below but it allows a steady hold. nearly struck by the advance; it slips the hair of a rounded tail desperately latched onto the metang.

"thunderbolt!" despite calling out towards his companion, the raichu is akin to the idea that is in mind. truly being together for so long meant the necessity for commands was slim. if not nonexistent.

it starts again. the element is immediate in encroaching into the system of the opponent. they would light up together in pulsating flashes. whether or not jasp was able to be shaken off was dependent on the effect. the terrain around them was deadly enough. in both frantic collisions and the fate that would determine this battle.

the constant jolt of electricity causes the pokemon to tremble, shaking erratically as the sudden surge of THUNDERBOLT starts to crack at the pokemon's internals. with little choice, the pokemon starts to swivel in midair, spinning in an attempt to throw off the annoying leech. a following ZEN HEADBUTT into the floor itself should use the raichu as a cushion. a move that aims to both punish it for hanging on too long and to get it to finally let go.

despite every unsteady motion cascading into the vortex of an eventual descent. raichu holds on firmly. thunderbolt continues over and over again and the vision becomes unsteady as the world spins around him. with all that occurs in the blinding rises of a golden essence the sturdy earth below comes closer. for now it must stop.

protect is just as it is before. it may shield him from the harm of getting crushed but it is not as strong as before. with every use the move grows weaker. raichu takes the full force of the attack as the thin lining shatters like glass. the only thing that is keeping it together is the calm mind.

tumbling outwards from the clouded burst of the broken terrain, what is presented is a tire for the situation. the clear blue still shines with determination as it awaits for any sign of movement. physically within brawl jasp stands no chance. it is the lightning that will decide the fate of this battle.

the metang bulldozes through terrain. ice crackles and the terrain underneath transposes as debris and fine particles overshadow the pokemon's figure. it takes a moment for the metang to dislodge itself from the ground, granting the opponent a much needed breather and the opportunity to prepare. once it manages the force needed to pull itself out, it settles in the cloud, unaffected by the haze due to its CLEAR BODY.

and, like the many attempts before, the pokemon hurls itself straight at the raichu, fist raised back for a repeated METEOR MASH.

the battle is not that short. both are unshakable in their exertion against each-other and that much is clear. metang bursting from the coverage is not that much of a surprise.

the stirring opposite feels the shift like the heartbeat drumming against its chest. iron tail follows up into the counter. two powerful advances poised against the brutality of their force.

it may need distance in order not to get crushed. beneath the weighty fist is nothing but an eventual loss. raichu uses the momentum of their clash to bound upwards as always. the floating tail keeping it marginally steady within the air. "thunderbolt!" alex shouts out, the electricity immediately coming forth.

it cascades downwards like a heavy waterfall in order to envelop the other once again.

third time's the charm.

iron clashes against steel. the impact is an unnerving collision that diverts the velocity of both attacks. physical might meets physical might and there's no clear cut winner. they get distorted, pushed back and astray. the distance it creates poses the perfect break through and the raichu starts to abuse the innate advantage it has over metang--range.

electricity overtakes the metang and it stutters once again. this time, it falls, the dim red lights of its eyes fading, gone. it's promptly recalled, disappearing in a thin vacuum of light.

"congratulations, brother."

fernando stands on his side of the field, clapping. the end result had been a toss up but he finds himself pleasantly surprised by the defining loss. this show progress and therefore promise.

as the metallic figure stumbles and wavers. eventually just before the fall it is swallowed into the capsule; disappearing in a brilliance of white light. raichu hovers just a bit closer to the ground.

the adrenaline of this intense clash has it in disbelief that it is finally over. at the same time it seems rather happy. latching onto the grinning alex with a prominent sound of glee.

approaching his brother with a bit of precaution to the slippery flooring, he manages to make the distance with the psychic support, "thank you for battling me." although just a sliver of the power they'd been faced against.

it gave alex a much larger idea of how well versed fernando was. "i thought this before but you have some pretty strong pokemon at your side! the next time you pass by...we should battle again." he pauses before adding, "for real." the glimmer of zeal does not overlook the also present kindness.

fernando keeps his footing, unmoving. alexander undoubtedly has more experience with the terrain so he lets the younger silph navigate the slick flooring.

"the pleasure is all mine, alex."

the fact that alexander has the insight to see how one dimensional the battle was shows that he's actively paying attention. it's another note that fernando appreciates and marks in earnest. "when you do become gym leader i'll be back as both councilman and challenger. i hope you're ready."

alex looks up at fernando, both elated and inspired for what the future would bring. maybe it is just the pleased older brother that makes him feel content. in the once distant gesture, although difficult to confirm in the notion, it still settles at his gut.

"of course, i'll be more than ready." grinning at the remark, the dwindling thought hits him suddenly, "can you stick around for awhile longer? your metang probably needs some treatment. i can escort you to the pokemon center if you'd like?" keeping the other from undeniable duties was not his intention. both very different lives never stopped alex from reaching out, if only for a moment.

of course he would request more of his time. fernando smiles through it all, never letting up the mask he's so elegantly crafted throughout the years. it shows a craftsmanship honed by years of experience and a grit for perfection. the impressions he seeks is the same as moments prior—a concerned brother wishing for the best of his younger sibling.

"sure thing. i was just going to drop off metang," he lies. "shall we?"

he escorts his brother to the local pokemon center. there are few townsfolk that gesture a friendly wave in the stroll. some most familiar with alex and some delighted to see a councilmen present.

especially within dewford.

alex waits patiently till metang is sorted out and left behind. technology was advanced enough that pokemon could be transported through the system by the all so magnificent poke ball. some part of him still couldn't believe he was apart of the family which had invented such a well used device.

"gonna head off now?" he says, but, he already knows that much is obvious. "thanks for listening to me and the battle...i hope i didn't take to much of your time." as much as alex found these moments with family precious. the other still led a much busier life. something he couldn't begin to imagine.

they stand just outside now, jasp no longer present given the slight injuries. "travel safe, brother." and he means it. like always, the smile that graces his features is gentle and fitting of the soft-spoken.
