She's too soft for such rigorous battling, and her techniques are basic and unrefined. Despite having made some definite progress since late year, a tournament like this not not normally up her alley.[break][break] But it's an excellent chance for Helios to stretch his legs and put years of training to use. Though Luka does her best to exercise her father's ace, she knows he's been itching for a true test of his expansive abilities. A tournament like this is the perfect opportunity: all she has to do is step back and allow him to fight to his heart's content.[break][break] They make for a rather mismatched pair as they approach the stadium floor. Helios, tall and proud, and Luka, timid and fluffy as a wisp of cotton candy. She tries not to cower under the stares of the crowd and their opponents, nor the booming introduction from the other side of the field. Her back remains straight, but her hands fiddle nervously with the hem of her skirt.[break][break] "Ah, um...we accept?" Her voice is soft and timid, and the Blaziken beside her snorts. "Um, t-that is! Helios and I are honored to be your first opponents of the night!"[break][break] Despite the poor introduction, Helios bursts into the arena with the finesse and ease of one who's done this a hundred times before. He stands upright and tall, exuding an aura of blazing confidence. The bow, received with a cock of a feathered brow, is returned in a curt nod.[break][break] With a fiery breath he steadies himself, exhaling an aureole of flame as talons curl into clenched fists.[break][break] There's no consideration paid to the size or stature of his far smaller opponent. A fight is a fight, and he won't disgrace himself by underestimating any opposition. There seems to be a mutual understanding between them- that this is truly a battle of skill between two Pokemon, with their trainers only present as facilitators.[break][break] Not that Helios needs a cheerleader, but she wants to offer as much support as she can. His successful hits are met with clasped hands and shining eyes- silent, for now, since it seems rude to cheer.[break][break] Helios faces the aura sphere dead on, with no flashy attempts to evade or avoid. Instead, a powerfully, taloned foot flings out in an attempt to kick the sphere away like a football.[break][break] Crackling energy shoots back towards its caster, aimed with a deadly precision. "M-maybe you should go a little easier on the poor thing..."[break][break] Watching Helios whale on the puppy almost feels like bullying. But perhaps she isn't giving the stalwart young pup enough credit— going toe to toe with a much bigger foe is no easy feat.[break][break] Her Blaziken, likewise, pays her little regard. It would be disrespectful, in the avian's opinion, to treat his opponent with kid gloves. And the pup's fighting spirit is worthy of respect.[break][break] The attack meant to down him doesn't work out so smoothly. Though Helios is lifted, he catches himself on the floor, bracing with powerful arms until the blow is barely glancing. In this position, he pushes up with his biceps, counteracting Raki's momentum with his own. The Riolu attached to his leg is carried with him as he leaps up, up, up, and then purposefully pivots back down. It's a modified version of a seismic toss, though the intent and purpose is the same: to slam his opponent into the ground with all the strength he can muster. The cheers of the crowd are divided; some rooting for the powerful Helios, others screaming their support for the (quite literal) underdog. Their shouts follow the pair struggling in midair, a fight that comes to an explosive end as the two opponents come crashing back down to earth.[break][break] It's unclear who hits the ground first. The arena is bathed in a wave of dust from the impact of two souls that fight until the end. Raki's skill must be commended, for Helios does hit the ground, and hard.[break][break] It's a powerful attack, one that may turn the tides of the entire battle. But will it be enough?[break][break] The dust clears, slowly but surely. And somehow, the Blaziken's figure still stands. Helios staggers on his feet, but shakes it off. He grunts, clicking his beak, and flexes his muscles with a Bulk Up before preparing for his next attack. This time it's a flurry of kicks, giving the small Riolu no time to relax or celebrate a successful attack. That's what Helios has always considered the ingredients to a successful battle.[break][break] In this case, all three have been on his side. It's not a brag- he's above such things. Despite the way their battle has played out, he still holds his opponent in high esteem. There is no gloating or cawing when that expert move fails to bring him down; if anything, he respects Raki more for throwing all of his tiny might against a creature of talons and flames.[break][break] His steady kicks don't relent, accompanied by small bursts of flame to give them a boost in power. Some may be parried, some not. For a moment Luka thinks he's giving his opponent a chance to recover, but that's assuredly not so.[break][break] The kicks build in intensity until he launches himself into the air, swinging a flaming leg down and around hard. The battle should have been decided by now. Any admiration for tenacity is replaced instead by the desire to get this over with.[break][break] Another series of kicks is sent the Riolu's way, faster now, almost impatient. Double, triple- the number doesn't really matter. All that matters is that they land. The pup seems to be on his last legs; Helios can outlast him, surely.
