The wind whipped sea spray into her platinum hair, and Olivia relished in it. This was her first time in Hoenn and she had to see the infamous city of Slateport herself. A place on the shores should never be besieged by such evils. It was blasphemous. She pulled her cloak around her as she continued to walk along the tide, her bare feet soaking in the sand.

Coming to the Rocket controlled city had, of course, not been a very popular idea with the League. Even though she had yet to be named Gym Leader publicly, they worried about leaks and her safety. They warned they couldn’t risk losing another Leader so soon after Nikolai. Yet, Olivia would not be barred from the Sea; none could deny an Abbiati their birthright. So she snuck away wrapped in an airy cotton beach robe, and pale blue running shorts with a matching tank top made her seem like any other beach goer. The only thing that may seem out of place would be the silver brooch that held the robe together at her collar, shaped like a crown.

Consumed in concentration, she didn’t notice the newly arrived beach goer(s)..

[attr=class,text] Night had fallen on the conquered city of Slateport. The stars shone brightly in the sky, basking the city with their dim glow. Thanks to the lack of electricity, the streets and the surroudnings were covered by a veil of darkness. A veil that would be quite useful for a bulky and tall man to infiltrate the fallen city. Hiding behind the corner of a house, Balder was waiting for the coast to be clear, to allow him to sneak around the city and find the information he wished.[break][break]

With Tetsu, his Aron, on his shoulder ready to attack in case anything happens, Balder observed Two grunts that were in the alley he was looking out for. Suddenly, the grunts moved, heading further in the city. Seeing this as an opportunity, balder was about to move in until he noticed a figure on the beach side. The giant turned his head, observing what he had noticed. A lady, covered with a beach robe and from which he could notice the end of her blue running shorts. The only thing the man could think of was What the hell was she doing?[break][break]

Deciding it was better to delay his plan on getting information about his family, the young man decided to sneak back towards the beach, staying in the shadows of the buildings. Since Tetsu might reveal his location due to his shine, he placed him back in his pokeball. It was safer this way. If the lady was part of team rocket, it was bets for him to not approach her casually. Although... he could capture her too and see what she knew. But... maybe she wasn't alone? Maybe it was a bait and there were some team Rocket grunts hidden nearby? That would be their kind of plan...[break][break]

Crouching in the darkness of the last building near the beach, Balder's eyes stayed fixated on the lady. Hand son his pokeballs, he was ready to summon Ash and geo as soon as he noticed any dangers. Ash would be able to create flames to keep the enemies away while Geo would be able to shoot them with its electromagnetic cannon on its back. And, if needed, he would call for Nuts to deal with some close range assault. Not the most failproof plan, but the best he could think in this unexpected situation.[break]

They came from the sea, a blast of water that Olivia instantly recognized as a hydro pump, then a chilling beam of ice. A Poliwhirl and Shellder, an odd combination to be working together to... Protect their territory? Olivia could only assume, but she wouldn't be having them ruin her investigations. She released her Marill, Calypso, and her Omanyte, Opis. "Play rough, Caly. Opis, use rock slide." Olivia commanded, and her pokemon did as she bid. Leaping into a playful wrestling match with the Poliwhirl, of which she quickly one. Opis, the squid like pokemon, rose his tentacles into the air before slamming them into the sand, causing rocks to fissure up and slam the Shellder.

They were both KO'd, and aftger tossing a pokeball at the Poliwhirl she wondered why'd they been so protective of the beach. Was it the Rockets? As Olivia pondered these things, she was taken completely unawares by the sudden attack from behind. Olivia struggled against the man, elbowing and kicking, all the while. His partner recalled her pokemon before they could act and a smug yellow stained smile looked down on her. "Well, who do we got here?" Asked the Rocket Grunt.

The female grunt held Olivia's cheek together and squeezed, tight, as she chided, "Not a Slateport gal, I can tell ya' that."

No, she wasn't. She was Olivia Valentine Abbiati, Professor of Mythology and soon to be Gym Leader of Sootopolis. If she could make it out of here alive, she thought.

Sudden appearance of wild pokemons, shooting at the lady who skilfully evaded the moves. To counter them, she quickly released two of her own pokemons: a Maril and an Omanyte. Omanyte was somewhat of a rare pokemon, normally reborn from a fossil thanks to some research before being gifted to trainers or released in their old habitat. As the two creatures that the lady wielded fought against the wild pokemons, Balder noticed two shadows approaching her from behind. Team Rocket. The giant clenched his teeth, holding his anger back whilst placing his hands on Geo's and Ash's pokeballs.[break][break]

Seeing how team rocket started acting with the lady, she clearly wasn't one of theirs. Most likely a random trainer or a civilian that wanted to see the disaster that struck Slateport. It would be too cruel to leave her to this fate, wouldn't it? Quietly, Balder opened Geo's and Ash's pokeballs. He then pointed specific locations around the trio. "Geo, release your Stealth Rock at those locations. Me and Ash will handle the rescuing."[break][break]

The Alolan Golem noded before starting to shoot rocks from his electromagnetic launcher on the top of its body. Thanks to the magnetic force, the rocks floated around the locations Balder had pointed and seemed almost invisible to the common eye. Taking that was the signal, Ash climbed on top her trainer's back. Once his pokemons were set, Balder started sprinting towards the trio. It didn't take long before he got close to them and gave his next set of orders. "Ash, Quick Attack in the black clothed lady's face. Feel free to burn her too." The Cyndaquil released a small yelp of acknowledgement, ready to act.[BREAK][BREAK]

"NOW!" yelled Balder. Receiving the signal, Cyndaquil jumped from his tamer's back and charged at the grunt lady as she was ordered, releasing her flames on her back to try and get more speed for the attack. As she was assaulting the lady, Balder reeled his arm back before attempting to punch the male grunt's face. Without looking the damage he dealt at his opponent, he grabbed the beach goer's arm and held it gently. He also proceeded to throw a pokeball at the shellder she had KOed previously, to make sure it didn't end up in team rocket's hands. "Ash, Smokescreen, now!" The cyndaquil returned near his tamer immediately and released a heavy smog from her back, cover the two humans and their surroundings, hopefully masking them from the team rocket goons. "Lady, can you run?"[break][break]

Flames flashed into existence so quickly, Olivia only saw a blur of blue and red as the woman's iron grip on her face was relinquished as the Rocket woman dealt with Cyndaquil flaring in her face. With the pokemon came a boulder of a man who knocked the Rocket male who had been holding her to the ground off of her; yet, not as gracefully as one would hope. Olivia felt something twist or turn - hopefully not break - as the two tumbled on top of her. The men fighting, Olivia inched towards her pokeballs the Rocket woman had snatched.

She barely had time to register what the hulking figure of a man had to say before they were assaulted, again, from the sea. Rocket's activities were more of a threat than she realized, narrowly avoiding a razor-sharp slice of air that came from a wing attack. They've angered the ocean and its occupants, stealing their resources and polluting the water they breathed. Yet, before she could act herself, a sudden downpour of rain fell upon the entire beach - a sly tympole surfacing from the slushy sand. Reinvigorated by the rain and her scorn of the sea, Olivia found the strength to rise to a knee and release one of her pokemon: Opis, the eldritch one.

"Aim high, old one, and keep," Olivia paused for the briefest of moments before deciding the stranger supposedly had good intentions, "- and keep us safe." She finished, and her orders were carried out to the word. The rain empowered the fossil pokemon and it acted first and quickly, tentacles rose and pointed skyward where shards of rock came hurtling towards the sky-high wingull. It was pelted and forced to the ground, upon which Olivia swiftly tossed a pokeball at the bird pokemon. She would teach it peace once more, one day. Today, however, they still had other hurdles to handle. Surrounded in smoke, a barrier of invisible energy surrounded them as Opis used protect.

Stormy eyes of azure met Balder as she ordered, "We need to get the pokemon away from these clods and then save ourselves, are you up to it?" It wasn't a question. Leaders didn't ask, and Olivia was no different.

Balder called back Ash and Geo in ther pokeballs, preparing to run until a blade of air, formed by a wild pokemon's Wing Attack. The blade of wing scattered the smokescreen that Ash formed, revealing their locations. Then followed the rain that was cast by the small Tympole, ready to empower the water-type moves of the pokemons around them. And just like the previous pokemons that assaulted them, they are only trying to defend their territory from the invaders. [break][break]

To counter the assault, the lady summoned her fossil pokemon, an Omanyte, to strike down the seagull. To ensure the tadpole wouldn't bother them any longuer, Balder decided to join the fray. He pulled a third pokeball from his belt, sending out Nuts, his Chesnaught. "Smack that baby frog with your back hand, Nuts, and then cover our rear with your spikes". The green and white creature nodded as it started to advance menacingly toward the small Tympole. Slowly, the frog creature started to back away from his uncomming opressor, tyring to defend itself with Bubbles. Sadly, the attack was ineffective against Chesnaught, who simply retaliated with a swipe from his arm, hitting the frog with the back of his spiky hand (Needle Arm) and sending him flying.[break][break]

To ensure another pokemon wouldn't become victim to any Rocket shenanigans, Balder used another empty Pokeball, catching the Tympole midair. Chesnaught grabbed the pokeball on the ground and brought it back as he returned to protect his trainer and his newly made human companion? Before they started moving, the lady looked at him, saying they needed to save the pokemons and get away from here, but in some sort of commanding tone. The young man inspected her top to bottom, making sure she was in any state to run or if he would have to carry her.[BREAK][BREAK]

"I'm going to be fine for that, of course. But can you keep up?" the young man smirked as he started to move forward, Nuts placing herself behind them and bringing her spikes up, activating her Spiky Shield and ready to strike back at any creatures, be it pokemon or human, that would attack them.[break][break]

She saw the barrelling Slowbro before Olivia could act, but thankfully, it ran face first into the spikey shield that had been set up by the massive grass type. "Keep him grounded." Olivia grunted, and her Omanyte obeyed, twisting its tentacles around the pokemon, squeezing with a constrict attack. The pink pokemon went limp and Olivia tossed a ball at it. The Rockets were fleeing by now, far outclassed. Though, they did taunt as the ran calling out, "Next time you won't have that big guy around to help ya'!"

And maybe she would, Olivia considered. Yet, before she could retrieve the pokeball she had thrown a sudden gust of sweet scent filled with spores of cotton swept around them. Confused and in a haze of pollen and spores, she fell back into the wet sand. "W- what was that?" She asked before the fairy fiend revealed itself from behind a rock, approaching with sinister eyes.

As they were making their escape, Balder turned around as he heard something running towards them. A big slowbro, seemingly on a rampage, crashed headfirst into Nuts' spiky shield, damaging it in the process. Then Olivia proceeded to defeating it and capturing it. In the mean time, the two rocket grunts that assaulted them began their escape, shouting that she was lucky that he had showed up. "Yeah now fuck off you bastards, or I'll burn you to a crisp next time!" For some reason, it seemed like they were running faster now. [break][break]

Balder recalled Nuts into her pokeball and turned around to see if Olivia needed help until he smelled something sweet in the air. That wasn't the scent of the sea nor anything linked to the nature around them... Balder brought up his arm to over his mouth and nose, making sure not to breath in the scent. Olivia didn't seem that lucky as she fell down, confused by what was happening. The giant pulled out another pokeball, calling out Tetsu, his Aron.[break][break]

"Tetsu, hurry and slam him down!" Tetsu, receiving his order, released a small screech as he began to run towards the Slurpuff location. The tail area began to glow in a shiny color, showing it was going to use Iron Tail. Before the fairy type could understand the attack that was coming, the Aron stuck down his small tail into the Slurpuff's abdomen, sending it reeling. Balder then threw a pokeball to capture it. Without confirmed the capture, he turned to Olivia and extended his hand to her. "Need a hand? I can carry you back out of the city and far from these crazy bastards."

Olivia took his hand eagerly, "Thank you." Her voice was sweet from gratitude as she rose. "I would appreciate a shoulder to lean on while we walk." Olivia's pokemon sprinted to her side, eyeing the stranger. She whistled and they hid behind her shaking legs. She offered him a half smile, "Apologies, but they're still on edge considering what just happened."

Ocean eyes stared into the distance where her attackers had fled. "I didn't expect an attack as soon as I arrived." Olivia admitted to herself quietly, before she turned those same blue beauties towards Balder. "My manners seem to have fled with those fiends, again, do forgive me." She stood as elegantly as one could when relying on another for support as she introduced herself. "I am Olivia Abbiati, the new Gym Leader of Sootopolis. Who do I have the pleasure - and gratitude for helping me - of knowing?"

The fights were now over. No more stress to be had. Except for the one that they needed to escape before any reinforcements find them. The girl then asked for his assistance, to which he proceeded on forcing her arm over his shoulder so she can stand better. However, that also forced him to keep his upper body lowered somewhat, as he was a bit too tall for the lady. Her pokemon proceeded to hide behind her, making her apologize of this action. Tetsu came back to his master's side, staying vigilant of any movements.[break][break]

"Attacks have been frequent in this sector, ever since they captured the location. It's like they multiply in those warehouses." This could sound totally wrong out of context, but it was still the truth. No matter how many Rocket grunts he spotted, he kept seeing new ones appear. They were increasing their numbers somehow.Maybe by importing some members from Kanto, who knows. Suddenly, the person started introducing herself, as the gym leader of Sootopolis City.[break][break]

"You sure are far from your gym. I'm Balder Schwartz, from Alola." Taking a small pause, he decided to move a bit. Lifting up Olivia, he started carrying her princess-style and stepping toward so they can go hide a bit further. "Sorry if you dislike this method of transportation, but it's gonna be easier on me. So, mind telling me why you ventured so far from your home? I don't think you simply came to dip your toes in Slateport's water."

how could olivia admit that she had, indeed, only come here to dip her toes in the water. to connect with her beliefs and their gods. olivia offered a pained smile to the man and lied, "i came to see if the rumors of rocket were true, and it would sadly seem so." she shifted her weight, and eyed the massive man. "i also came with little to no expectations from the people. hoenn, and slateport especially, is known for its terror not kindness." olivia admitted.

"yet, I have been proven wrong. tell me, balder of alola, do you wish to help those like you have helped me? to make this region that we as foreigners, now call home, better?" the gym leader asked, her azure eyes staring into his very being as her marill brought the captured slowbro to her.
