[break][break] but even becoming a ranger captain in evergrande, he hadn't had that many interactions with the councilman. he left those types of interactions up to his sister, or even more than that, PENELOPE LIVY.

though he lived in evergrande, the politics of the league's upper echelon are often lost on him. it's why he chose to become a ranger, why he didn't decide to go back to school or go to work for a stuffy desk job, where he'd have to wear suits all day. [break][break]

in a lot of ways, he and FERNANDO SILPH were pure opposites. [break][break]

but ollie was always determined to find a connection. [break][break]

his voice laxes at ollie’s admission. as far as first impressions go, he seems easier to dominate than his sister. not unlike the very head ranger they’re gossiping about.

“you’ll do well to remember that.”

the moment the INTERDREAM ZONE starts to infringe on them, fernando realizes a pokemon onto the field. his FERROTHORN isn’t too impressive at first glance but the bulky plant provides a good buffer for the both of them.

“prepare yourself.”

the image seems innocent enough but he knows better than to rely on his eyes.

[attr="class","littleollie"] ollie blinks, turning towards the ferrothorn that materializes beside the councilman. that break away - that shift in his concentration - causes the world to shift once more.

[break][break] this time, it's kalos. the sight of two people running and laughing, but instead of two blonds, it's a brunette-haired boy holding the hands of a red-haired girl.

[break][break] the manifestation of his anxieties twist and swirl in the pink smoke. the two people now stand in front of him and FERNANDO SILPH, but when ollie looks up to see who they are, the expression that is reflected back at him as faceless.

[break][break] terrifying.

[break][break] in front of them, two ampharos stand. electricity sparks between them as they lash out with a THUNDER.

[break][break] ollie releases his own dunsparce who takes the brunt of the hit, before slithering out in an attempt to hold them down with a COIL.

it doesn’t take the appearance of opposing pokemon for fernando to issue his command. he expects it preemptively, and calls on his pokemon to do the same. after all, these images mean nothing to them. they are not real people, much less their people.

“execute!”

his FERROTHORN lashes out with its POWER WHIP. both appendages swerve horizontally, threatening to hurl both pokemon away in a single swipe.

[attr="class","littleollie"] his dunsparce holds down both of the ampharos so that when the POWER WHIP comes racing through, it hits proud and true. one of the ampharos gets knocked back and when they release their grip on one another, one puffs into smoke.

[break][break] FERNANDO SILPH doesn't know these ghosts. but ollie does.

[break][break] he doesn't want to talk about it.

[break][break] "drill run!"

[break][break] the ground rumbles with power as the dunsparce surges forth, ripping up the floor, as it smashes into the remaining ampharos. but strengthened by the FEAR rolling off of ollie, it grabs the dunsparce and throws him back.

[break][break] the pokemon glows and shifts in shape, turning into a MEGA AMPHAROS. a DISCHARGE explodes from the mist-pokemon, razing everything in it's path.

“GYRO BALL,” fernando commandeers the pokemon’s standard battle routine in response to the AMPHAROS’ mega evolution. this pokemon isn’t one of his main roster, or even his gym liaisons. it’s a wild ‘disposable’ that relies on instinct to attack—a common weak point in powerful pokemon that have yet to be acclimated to their trainer.

the hulking mass starts to spin rapidly, charging straight toward the opponent with little regard for the approaching DISCHARGE. the steel surface of the FERROTHORN acts as a decent enough conductor once the attack strikes, tanking it entirely as the momentum of its spin pushes it forward.

when it lands, the FERROTHORN remains unresponsive, steaming from the heat of the DISCHARGE despite it still carrying out its GYRO BALL.

by then, fernando already has another pokeball at the ready.
