Quick work with the stolen earpiece had saved some of their asses for a few minutes. Yet the battle waged on and wounds were stacking. The League was getting diced just as bad as Rocket was. Temp had no idea who would win this shit.[break][break]

But there was another small glimmer.[break][break]

A cargo load of healing supplies was being moved from one League camp to another, a pop up med tent behind enemy lines needing it. Rocket could use those supplies.[break][break]

A request for a redevouz has been sent out.[break][break]

Doing his best to muffle and disguise his voice, Temp had told whatever unlucky fuck where to meet him.[break][break]

Temp had three pokemon out. But one was hidden. The other two lurked in the shadows, moves ready to strike whoever came to visit.

Orion was a wild card. Over-aggressive. Though he was an Elite Ranger again after Razz Kingsman had graciously restored his rank, he still couldn't be trusted in a fight against Rocket. He was too volatile.[break][break]

So, naturally, he's stuck on delivery duty.[break][break]

Fine. Whatever. He's not mad about it, or anything.[break][break]

It's late in the day, and what had once been runs back and forth to deliver SCATTERBANGS and POISON BARBS had turned into a desperate ferrying of medical supplies to the wounded. He was told to help with extractions where he could.[break][break]

This felt more rewarding, at least.[break][break]

In the chaos of battle, his orders don't always come from the same person, so he doesn't think much of a voice he doesn't recognize. There are dozens of Rangers in Slateport alone that he hasn't met. It's also not weird that they're not at the meeting spot right away... but where Orion is unaware of another presence, his Silvally growls low in its throat.[break][break]

Dark energy coalesces around his arm as the Rotom within charges a NASTY PLOT, and Orion calls out, "Show yourself."

Orion's metal arm moves of its own accord, the Rotom within PROTECTING him from the incoming attacks. Frost shines along titanium and pin missiles bounce off with soft tinks.[break][break]

"Nice try," he growls.[break][break]

Whirling around to where the voice has sounded, Orion's eyes narrow.[break][break]

"Not a chance."[break][break]

He doesn't need to command Perseus; the Silvally immediately sets up a HEAL BLOCK. Tempest Quinn was trapped here with them, now.[break][break]

Rather than scared, the unhinged Ranger is excited to be given an excuse to spill Rocket blood.

A Haze fills the area, obscuring. It is followed by sparks of Discharge.

Unfortunately, the PERISH SONG proves a brutal solution to the ranger's empowered metal arm. As the HAZE neutralizes its earlier NASTY PLOT, the haunting song puts a timer on the battle.[break][break]

Fuck.[break][break]

Perseus was his powerhouse, and Orion couldn't afford to lose him when up against the Ultra Beast laden Wilds. So, scowling, he reluctantly switches out the chimera after it takes the brunt of the DISCHARGE.[break][break]

A Chandelure takes the field in its stead, letting out a rattling wail as SMOG pours from its flickering candles to cover the battlefield.[break][break]

If the battle was on a timer, well, best to end it quickly then.[break][break]

Rather than running away, Orion charges toward the laughter, throwing a wild SUCKER PUNCH with his metal arm.

It's a narrow miss on Orion Lykos's part. In a sense. The other man doesn't hit Temp in the face; but he does get him hard in the shoulder when he tries to dance away from the oncoming attack. Something crunches in there and pain blooms behind Temp's eyes, making his snarl. Later, when examining this, he'll find the other cracked something. For now it just serves to piss Temp off.[break][break]

"Death it is then!" Temp lashes back, never one to shy away from a fistfight. He hauls back and tries to slam his fist into the other's face in return, squaring up for a proper fight.[break][break]

The poor Chandelure is still going at it three vs one with Orion distracted. The Smog floods the field, mixing with the Haze into a nasty mist of poison. Yet it still obscures and flames burn bright.[break][break]

A Water Pulse from above, where Shells was tucked away on a small alcove. From one side a Muddy Water floods. From the other... another Muddy Water, Shocker's Copycat taking his sister's move for himself.

Unfortunately for Orion, he's not a trained fighter. He's angry and scrappy and has basic knowledge of how to deal with when a call goes bad. This is not that.[break][break]

He expects the punch to stun the man, and he doesn't expect him to hit back.[break][break]

There's a wet crunch as his nose breaks, hot blood dripping from his chin. He can taste it in his mouth as he gasps, staggering back, his Rotom DISCHARGING a burst of electricity to force the Rocket back.[break][break]

But while he's no trained fighter, Orion is resilient. Spitting out his own blood, he rips two more pokeballs free of his belt to even the odds. His poor Chandelure hadn't stood a chance against the sudden deluge.[break][break]

His Absol immediately lunges for the man, a SUPER LUCKY NIGHT SLASH looking to draw blood. Decidueye is more calculated, firing a SPIRIT SHACKLE into the shadows from whence the water had come.

The Night Slash hits but not Temp.[break][break]

An Oranguru, fodder to Temp, falls to the ground. Belly open.[break][break]

Temp grins, vicious, and goes for Orion Lykos's throat.[break][break]

The Spirit Shackle latches onto Shells. She gives a lovely cry of pain, trying to bring down an Avalanche on the head of her attacker.[break][break]

From the mist, a slam of Double Kick as Shocker finally reveals himself. The Absol is his target; hoping to keep it away from his trainer. Yet the Absol is not so lucky to go 1v1. Where Shocker goes so does Soaker, a Signal Beam trying to crash into the Absol.

It's chilling, how easily Rocket will sacrifice their Pokémon as meat shields. Chilling, but expected. Orion feels little guilt over it; he's seen the ferocity of Rocket's Pokémon, had to stand by as many were deemed unable to be rehabilated.[break][break]

Euthanized.[break][break]

He doesn't have long to dwell on it regardless, for the Rocket slams into him and brings them both to the ground.[break][break]

In blood and muck, they grapple for each other's throats. Even as a strong hand threatens to crush his windpipe, Orion's metal hand seeks the same. There is no hope of his grip going slack, of muscle spasms.[break][break]

A human throat was nothing beneath the unrelenting pressure of titanium.[break][break]

Until the PERISH SONG reaches its peak, and the Rotom within the arm faints.[break][break]

Orion has become reliant on the dexterity provided by the ghost. Without it, his grip does indeed go slack, and fingers struggle with nerve endings and commands from a frazzled mind.[break][break]

His good hand rips a pin from titanium, his Absol MEGA EVOLVING and DETECTING the incoming attacks in time to leap clear.[break][break]

Gasping, choking on thin breaths, Orion takes advantage of any brief respite offered by his near-victory to roll away from his attacker, staggering back to his feet. The supplies are on the ground, closer to the Rocket than to him.[break][break]

Decidueye shines her SPOTLIGHT on the Absol, hoping to keep the Pokémon's attention away from her trainer.

Temp doesn't want to just choke. He wants to crush. To feel Orion Lykos's neck snap under the weight of him. The other man's neck will be littered with a necklace of bruises after the encounter.[break][break]

But metal finds Temp. He coughs and wheezes, straining, feeling his own windpipe be crushed.[break][break]

Temp does not relent.[break][break]

Only pushes down harder, his whole weight. This will be a battle of wills and whoever is better at choking. Temp knows he will win. The ocean had trained him for diving deep without air or too long.[break][break]

Then the grip slackens on his neck.[break][break]

Temp let's out a strangled cry of victory.[break][break]

But the clash of attacks is too close. Temp loses his grip long enough for the ranger to roll away from him. Temp doesn't let him go so fast, a dog after a rabbit, crawling forward as he wheezes. To try and grab the other man's leg and pull him back.[break][break]

Poison Barbs in Temp's hand. An opportunity taken to shove them deep into the other's mouth, down his throat. Any blood drawn from bites on his fingers is worth it.[break][break]

Shocker grabs Temp by the back of the shirt and pulls him up, pulls him away from from tangle with the other.[break][break]

Temp gets to his feet and snatches the package of healing supplies from the ground. He had more important shit to worry about than some worthless Ranger.[break][break]

A Sticky Glob is flung at the Absol, a handful of Scatterbangs at the Decidyeye.[break][break]

Temp calls back his Lapras and runs. Not out of cowardice, but in victory. Shocker and Soaker stay at his side to deflect any attacks the Ranger might try in his desperation.
