He was surprised, but pleased all the same at the ongoing shenanigans that had been set up around Fortree. Maybe it was a way of drawing more people to come to visit the place, he had no idea, but well—at least it kept the people busy and happy.[break][break]

Not to mention that it also lined their pockets somewhat as the entire place had been redone into something that looked like it came straight out of Kalos. Or this weird new place he’d been hearing about, Galar, it was called—or something? Either way everything looked fantastic, from the streamers to the booths to the various activities that were available—they really went hard here so much.[break][break]

There was even an ongoing photoshoot featuring some ladies who’d dressed up in armor and were representing the different colors of the rainbow—it didn’t hit him that there was also a miniature pride event until he realized what was going on.[break][break]

And boy he was all for it![break][break]

Seeing that most of everyone had gone out of their way to get dressed for the evening, he decided to get in on the fun—and hilariously, there was even this cute little crown that was provided to him. At least it wasn’t something that was too top-heavy.[break][break]

Now that he’d completed his costume change, ironically being the ‘King of Hearts’ for the evening, he began to wander through the crowd, unable to keep the smile off his face as the people parted to let him pass. Of course, this was compounded with so many apologies and for him to have everyone carry on and do whatever shit they were doing—not to mind him going through the place.[break][break]

Well—in a way, he is the leader of Fortree, but man this felt a little too crazy to be real![break][break]

There was no magic in the air but it felt like it, or Isra assumed it was supposed to feel like it. She actually wasn't entirely sure about the event she'd found herself in the middle of to be honest. She attributed much of that to the fact that it was well versed in the history of Kalos, seeing as much of her blood and her future had been intended for the region. Her mother had considered it pertinent she know as much as possible. There inaccuracies she knew couldn't be helped, after all they were trying to time travel back to a world very different from there own in the name of fun.

Somewhere along the lines she decided to just play the part of a child playing pretend and enjoying the festivities, walking around and getting lost in the daze of it all. She'd inspected anything and everything and had to refrain from stuffing too many goodies in her belt. It was much like a tool belt and helped her look a part she had not chosen but that her dear Amelia felt was fitting for her. Some sort of valiant vagabond or what have you. A rapscallion with a heart of gold! she had insisted. Isra did not agree but did not stop her either, letting her dress her up in what made her feel more like a movie assassin than anything else.

Now that felt much more fitting.

It wasn't until something caught her eyes that she came back to reality for a moment, waiting for eye contact from a very familiar face. She grinned, and disappeared into the crowd.

She slipped throw the throng of people, staying out of sight until she could swing around him, her target sighted locked on and she was ready for the attack. She made sure he had a lost her before making her approach from behind, reaching into her belt to find the packaged dagger cookie she had purchased from a stall earlier. He'd find it up against the small of his back before she asked "Do I get a prize if I kill the king?"

Isra didn't really want a prize, but pretending to kill Alexei Ivanov was fun either way.

Alexei was so busy roaming around the place, he’d failed to notice that there was a greenette in the crowd. He thought he saw a familiar face, but it was too fast, too soon. Now that the target was gone, he continued to wander around, always apologizing for everyone who had to get out of the way—simply because of his costume for the evening.[break][break]

“No, no need to worry, I’m fine, please, don’t trouble yourselves more about this,” he says in an apologetic tone, holding up his hands and giving them an incredibly sheepish grin as he makes his way over to a food stall that’s selling deep-fried dough balls that came with chocolate dip.[break][break]

It didn’t take too long for him to place an order, and he was now waiting for the little cluster of dough balls to be given to him when he feels something poking him in the back—followed by a voice he never thought he’d hear again.[break][break]

“Uhm, please—no need to get so violent now, do we?” he begins with a bit of a stammer, trying to turn around. Whatever that was poking him in the back felt rather pointy, and it isn’t until the other voice registers does he realize who it is.[break][break]

“Is—Isra? Is that you?” he says a few moments later, breaking character for all of five seconds as he turns around to face the greenette.[break][break]

“Where have you been? It’s been a while since I’ve seen you around,” he continues.[break][break]

“You want some? I’m buying,” he offers.[break][break]

"Aw." she pouts, even if it was just a plushy or something she would have been satisfied. After all, how many people would have been able to say they got a fast one in on the king? She couldn't actually answer because truthfully most probably wouldn't have done what she just did especiall with hoenn's recent climate.

He asks a question she won't answer in public. "Busy. Very. More so than normal." she'll likely tell him in detail later but there are too many ears that could be listening here and eyes that could see her and him with each other. It's something she despises about crowds. You aren't a ghost when you're standing in front of people and it is something she has still yet to wrap her head around. Once upon a time she was nothing in a crowd but now she is a doll playing a perpetual game of pretend.

"Buying what? Is it something sweet? You always seem to be buying sweet stuff." wasn't it churros last time? Maybe it was just one of those things that was normal for most and she, as per usual, did not fit that mold.

"Are you going to the jousting? I was thinking I might enter. I'm worried I would over do it if I joined the dueling tourney." and by that she meant get too excited and hurt someone.

“Well, either way, it’s good to see you again,” Alexei remarks with a slight grin on his face, adjusting the dinky little crown that was perched in his hair as he did so. “I hope you’re free to catch up in private after this?” he inquires, hoping that the other would agree to his little request.[break][break]

He knows from the way she’d answered his question that it was pretty loaded, and that there were always ears everywhere one looked—even in the most unexpected of places.[break][break]

“Of course it’s something sweet. I thought you already knew by now that I have a sweet tooth,” he adds a few moments later, a catty grin on his face as he reaches over for the serving that’s being handed to him. Inhaling the scent of crisp, freshly-fried dough balls, he decides to blow on them to cool them down a little bit.[break][break]

“It—it depends, actually. If they have aerial jousting then you know I’m going to join. I’m rather terrible with riding land bound Pokémon. There was this one time I tried to get on a Rapidash but it wouldn’t let me get on her back! I don’t know why that Pokémon never let me mount her and take out for a ride,” he explains a few moments later, a frown crossing his face.[break][break]

“Why are you afraid of joining the dueling competition? I mean, it is a test of skill.”[break][break]

"I am." how much so is up to debate but that's only because she so much has been happening that it seems there is always more that needs to be done lately.

the subject is quickly dropped however as she doesn't want to allow something to slip. Normally she can watch herself with important things but something about Alexei makes it easy to tell him things,s he feels far more likely to blurt things out around him.

Isra leans in and sniffs at the fried item he's buying. She wonders how her manages to always find these things no matter where they go. She's pretty sure she's never seen him without something to snack on like this. She sneaks one out of the serving he's just bought and bites into it, contemplating how she feels about it as a food item while he talks. She shrugs in response to his little story, it almost seems callous but its not in Isra to be that sort of rude. "Some pokemon just aren't to be ridden, no matter their species."

And then he hits the nail on the head as to why she won't join. "I know. But most people aren't trained in it they're winging it."

She snatches another bite and scarfs it down before continuing, nonchalantly. As if this is matter of fact. "I might wear dresses and heals and act like a lady most the time Alexei but I was an unruly child that hated to sit still, my mother had to find some way to keep me entertained. Swords were one of those things. Once I was old enough for it of course." it wasn't quite the whole story but it wasn't a lie either. Isra was one of those children that learned to run before they walked as a toddler and had never stopped since. Given the time and the chance she's concerned skillset after skill set in her spare time. If it could be taught to her she delved head first into it even as a child. "I learned other stuff too, but I actually know how to wield a sword. That makes it different if I join."

"We should go to the jousting."

She grabs him by the wrist and starts dragging him towards it, today she's feeling like the self she hides behind the dress and the proper face. The lace is gone and the rough and tumble girl she hides deep bellow is saying hello and worst of all she's excited and Alexei isbound to get caught up in her hurricane.

“We were all unruly children at some point,” he agrees sagely, noticing that she’s taken quite a few bites of his snack—but he doesn’t mind this at all. In fact he actually got the snack for sharing, and seeing that she was now taking a few bites of her own made him all happy inside.[break][break]

Aha! I had a feeling you have a sweet tooth, and I was right! He thought to himself, hiding the little triumph as he listens to her explanation. While he knows that she’s not from this region, what surprises him is the fact that she knows how to handle swords.[break][break]

Just how good was she, though? He could only wonder.[break][break]

“Oh, so you’re challenging the unofficial ruler, then?” he teases, a playful grin on his face as she leads him towards the area where the jousting ring’s located.[break][break]

“I accept your challenge,” he adds with another teasing nudge, before leading the way to where there were volunteers dressed as knights and showing other people how to be able to joust safely without running into too many pesky injuries.[break][break]

Of course, there was something he wasn’t telling her yet, but he decided to save that for another day. The king had been challenged, and it was time to see if he could really hold his own in the arena![break][break]

Not like me. she thinks to herself bu the thought will stay in her head today because it opens up a road she's not yet ready to tread on. Few even know about her mother's side of the family, especially in Hoenn, but know to know the details she'd likely end up divulging on that topic would be a whole different idea.

It didn't really matter right now anyway. They had a game to play. At least that's how she was trying to treat all of this, it was easier to call it a game and get herself not to try to hard. An actual challenge meant not going easy. Calling it a game meant going for victory but not too hard. Just in case.

"Who else would a challenge but a king? No one else is worthy of going against me!" there's a playful grin on her face as they approach the jousting area, waiting to go over the instructions with the individual manning it before being given the chance to take it on themselves. Isra nods along with what she's told but doesn't really seem to be paying too much attention. It's obvious she's eager to get on her mount and give it a go.

If she's supposed to wait for him to decide she forgets about it, she's already sped off and getting ready. Even if she doesn't joust with Alexei just giving it a go is good enough for her.

Unlike Miss Isra, who seemed to take everything in one go, he had to hang around the volunteer a little more, before he whispered in the volunteer knight’s direction, “I’m going to need a little help!” as he was suited up, the little regal crown taken out of his hair before being replaced with a helmet.[break][break]

Visor down, they said. Get the heavy plated armor on while you’re sitting on the mount, they said.[break][break]

He’d seen a few themed movies here and there, but to actually be on the back of a Rapidash—along with a ridiculously long pole that looked like it was ready to snap in two if it wasn’t slammed hard enough—was another thing entirely. He didn’t know he was panicking until he felt the rest of the armor being strapped onto him and he felt the reins being dropped into his right hand.[break][break]

He knew he had to hold onto the jousting lance with his left hand and lower it at around roughly the same time they both collided, and he could barely see out of the hot, stuffy helmet that he had on—what the hell was with the tiny window to see out of?[break][break]

It wasn’t until he saw one pair clash moments before they were brought up to the center did he realize just why the visor had to be down.[break][break]

Oh, shit, are you for real?! He thought in a panic as the Rapidash then sprung forward, and he felt his center of gravity shift. On and on the equine Pokémon raced, meeting to collide with the other![break][break]

Taking this as the cue, he lowers the jousting pole and hopes for the damned best.[break][break]

Isra would have totally done this without the gear if she could get away with it but they didn't seem inclined to allow that. Something about a liability and she let it slight, letting them get her dressed and on the Rapidash's back. She was so ready for this and could only hope Alexei was as excited as she was. Even if they both just crashed and burned it was going to be so much fun.

If only she'd known how not excited Alexei was, she would have told him to get off the damn horse and let her match up with someone else so that he wasn't freaking out. It was too late now though the Rapidash was in full gallop and the two of them were closing in on each other. Isra waiting. One breath. Two. Three. She lowered the jousting pole and readied for impact.

She missed on purpose, it seemed wrong to fell the king twice in one night. She purposely gave him the glory, and regardless of her defeat Isra rolled back onto her feet in an instant with a holler.

It was fun, and that was all that mattered.

He waited until the Rapidash had been corralled in by the handlers and the heavy armor was taken off before he stumbles down from the equine Pokémon’s back, down on the ground and walks over to where the greenette had landed.[break][break]

“Miss Isra, what was that about? Did you just deliberately—“ he begins, before kneeling down and attempting to help her get up and off the ground, raising the visor of the helmet he wore in the process to get a better look at her. Leaning in closer, he whispers, “Did you throw that match?” before offering a hand for her to take.[break][break]

Sure, she may have rolled down and off the Rapidash, but now that they were back on solid ground, he’s not as panicky as he was earlier. Anyhow, now that they were done with the scariest part of the event, he then points over to where some handlers were showing off their Fletchinder.[break][break]

“Falcon booth, let’s go?” he inquires, finally getting his crown back from one of the other handlers who’d approached him earlier in exchange for the helmet that’s askew on his face.[break][break]
