Ruby had gotten her groaning and complaining about having The Magnificent Funtasia on her front doorstep out of her system in private. She still wouldn't be able to act all gung-ho about this carnival—heck, doing that would be concerningly out of character for her—but she could at least not act like a total killjoy so Opal could have a good time. They hadn't been able to spend much time together lately, what with Ruby being busy with her "freelancing," so this was a good chance for them to finally have some sisterly quality time.

[break][break]Ruby had suggested heading out early so they could get ahead of the crowds. They were far from the only ones, but it was definitely going to get worse as the day went on.

[break][break]"All right, what do you wanna do first?" Ruby asked. "Looks like they've got tug of war, ring toss, one of those guess-how-many-there-are-in-the-jar things... Oh, hey, they've got one of those Magikarp fishing games." It didn't matter to Ruby that Opal wouldn't be able to see these games. They were all rigged, anyway. And if anyone tried to pull a fast one on her, Ruby would be right there with her hardened glare.

The fact that a carnival was in the city was definitely a surprise. But she suppose the space center did bring in a lot of tourist. So putting the carnival in a place like Mossdeep did make a bit of sense. Even though it was bound to get crowded she was curious about the festival. About the games and kind of food it might have.

So during one of the times she could catch her sister she had inquired about them attending the carnival when it showed up in Mossdeep. Getting her sister to attend was easier than she thought it would be. It might be because it was rare for her to ask for something. Never really being the time to really want something or to put necessity over wants most of the time.

Knowing how she could get with crowds. Having to sometime deal with sensory overload her sister had suggested heading out earlier. Which she had been more than happy to agree with. Hopefully this way they wouldn’t have to deal with a lot of people.

As they moved through the carnival her sister would explain about some of the games they had. Of course she couldn’t ride any of the rides but one of the games would probably be okay. They all sounded really nice but there was one of the ones that caught her attention over the others.

Ruby did a double-take at Opal's request. "The tug of war?" she repeated, unsure if she'd heard right. "Okay. Sure." It was the last attraction that Ruby had expected Opal to want to visit, but she sure as hell wasn't going to say no.

[break][break]Ruby led the way to where a few people and their Pokémon were facing off against a particularly buff Conkeldurr, which was saying something with how big their muscles naturally were. The challengers were giving it their all, but the Muscular Pokémon hardly seemed to be breaking a sweat as it pulled on the rope. Heck, it looked like it was taking it easy on its opponents; the flag tied to the center of the rope was approaching the challengers' marker line.

[break][break]"Looks like you go against this Conkeldurr," Ruby explained. She looked at the sign listing all the rules. "No weight and... minimal Pokémon limits, whatever that means."

[break][break]"It means my darling Conkeldurr can take on anything!" the tall, thin man running the game said. He looked way out of place in a contest of strength. "But if any Avatars wanted to play, they'd have to leave their patrons out. Don't want to frighten the guests, you know?"

[break][break]"Yeah, sure," Ruby answered, unconvinced. Personally, she would have paid more to see the Conkeldurr try its strength against a Legendary, but she didn't feel like arguing the point. Instead, she turned her attention back to the current game. Just as it looked like the challengers were going to get the flag over their line, there was a tapping sound. The Conkeldurr's muscles and veins suddenly bulged, and it pulled back on the rope hard enough to send its opponents stumbling forward and the flag over its line.

[break][break]"Oooh, so close!" the host cried in clearly staged disappointment. "Tell you what, as a reward for your hard work, come take a consolation prize!" He was really hyping up the lowest-grade carnival prizes possible. The actually decent stuff was probably walled behind the herculean task of beating that Conkeldurr.

[break][break]Herculean, huh?

[break][break]"I bet we could take 'em," Ruby said to Opal.

Ignoring her sisters surprise she nodded. ”Sure, sounds fun,” she told her turning her attention back to the game. While she couldn’t see it she could at least listen to what was going on. Especially considering that her sister was explaining to her what was going on.

A Corkeldurr was known for being strong. So perhaps a Pokémon that could match the Corkledurr’s strength. There were a few Pokémon that could do that. Before she could follow that line of thought to much she heard the game maker respond to her sister. She listened to what he had to say curious about what his response would go. So basically there wasn’t very much limitations. That meant that they weren’t limited on what Pokémon that could use.

His response about Avatars was a bit puzzling. To be honest she wasn’t sure if that would be the case. She wasn’t sure how she felt about Avarars herself but didn’t most kids find that kind of stuff cool? She didn’t not to say anything though, after all it was his game.

Deciding not to think too much on it she turned her attention back to the game. It sounded like a struggle to her and she wondered who would pull off the victory. The thought had barely crossed her mind when she had her answer.

So the competitor lost that was a shame. Despite that she was still set on playing. Maybe it was because she was confident that her and her sister would be able to win. It helped that they could add Pokémon to their team, since it seemed they would be facing off against the game owners own Pokémon.

She barely paid attention to the game owner giving the competitor a consolation prize as she turned her attention back to her sister. ”I do as well,” she agreed her thoughts straying back to her earlier thoughts on Pokémon that could match Corkledurr’s strength.

There was only one Pokémon on her team that could do that. And it was probably best if they used him anyway since he would be able to pick her up so that she could more easily participate. With that in mind she released Hercules from his pokeball.[break] Ruby Garcia
