velvet asch was born velma ashton to two well-meaning but exhausted parents in lilycove city. they had very little time for their hyperactive, disobedient daughter, as they worked two jobs in an effort to pay back a debt to a local subsection of team rocket. velma was known for getting trouble in school, and desired nothing more than the love and affection of her parents and teachers. unfortunately, she got very little of this. what was a small child to do? she racked her brain to try and come up with the answer.[break][break]

the answer came to her instead, in a form she'd soon come to loathe. when her body started to change, she got more and more attention from both peers and teachers. it was what she'd wanted all along, but she found it made her skin crawl instead. after a year of this, she finally snapped after a particular incident left her traumatized and without help from any authority figures. for a while, her personality dimmed, and she withdrew into herself. but when the teasing started again, she resolved to end it all with her own two hands.[break][break]

she became the tormentor, rather than the tormented. she hunted down all who offended her and left them nasty little surprises, she snuck pictures and videos of them breaking rules, she did whatever it took to break them and teach them she wasn't to be messed with. by the time she was 14, velma had completely obliterated the opposition. now, everyone bowed before her, and no one dared stand in her way.[break][break]

through all of this, she held tightly onto a love of music and singing. when she was 15, she got a part-time job bussing tables at a nearby cafe, and used the money to pay for lessons. around the time team rocket was moving more firmly into their occupation of the region and preparing for an attack on slateport, velma was putting up ads looking for people to join her band. by the time she was 17, she'd formed the rock band "bad blood". they started out doing covers. when velvet was 18, she started writing her own songs under the pseudonym "velvet asch". when she was 19, she dyed her hair and legally changed her name to velvet asch. when she was 20, bad blood released their single "you make me want to", and it trended at the top for several months. in short: things have been going velvet's way for a while now.[break][break]

oh, and she joined up with team rocket on the sly. she will never become anyone's victim ever again; she'd rather make her own victims.[break][break]

velvet is brash, argumentative, and rude. she can be a little difficult to get along with at times, particularly when she's convinced she's right. on the other hand, she can be surprisingly insightful and charimastic. all the better for tearing down her enemies, if she can operate on the sly and strike when they've shown her their weak points. she's not particularly loyal either... though she doesn't get enjoyment from hurting others, she doesn't hesitate if she believes it's in her best interest. all in all, velvet is the self-serving, self-proclaimed "upcoming queen of rock", and she won't let anyone stand in her way for long.
