His Lord is dead. Hattori crumples to the floor in panic. He’s alone in hell – a sole survivor for the third time. Lizzy bears the body of the only man who ever saw worth in a miniscule frog. There’s hope. A small, tiny, miniscule hope.[break][break]
Kyle – his Lord’s greatest friend. The one they call Avatar of Ho-oh. If anyone can bring the Lord back, it’s him. Keeping that ember alive, Hattori stands up.[break][break]
He navigates the battlefield as a shinobi should. No idle battle is picked. Hattori guides Lizzy with a careful hand. They stick to the shadows where they can, move when they must, fight as a last resort. When a fight is forced with some stray wild paradox, Hattori fights like a warrior possessed. They do not have long. The door is rapidly closing.[break][break]
From across the battlefield, he spies Kyle. Jumping across a crater blasted by a stray aura blast, he looks up at the champion and chitters. Panic is in his single eye, gesturing wildly to the Cyclizar that is making her own way towards him, eyes downcast.[break][break]
Hattori’s eye carries a wordless, helpless plea.[break][break]
Please help him.

the mist ends up being an integral part of the setting once more. although he gets increasingly comfortable with each instance of the mist being a prominent feature of the battlefield, he is still very much aware of what happens in its midst.

the gym leader might have been one of the things he could expect, but these pokemon weren't on his list. surprise meets the hope in these pokemon's eyes, and empathy overcomes caution as he approaches them.

"wait, i know you guys."

his head whips around as his hands find their way to kyle's pouch containing his potions. the terrakion on his side watches over the horizon, ever so vigilant to any sudden appearances of paradox pokemon.

"where's navy?"

Hattori’s lone eye turns upon the human’s question. Moving up to Lizzy, he pulls back the blanket covering her seat. His hand shakes as he reveals Navy’s body. Were it not for the red mark on the man’s chest, it would look like Dewford’s sheriff was simply sleeping – simply dreaming of that ideal world he wants to create. Instead, his face is still. Hattori closed his eyes when he first found him, giving his Lord some small dignity in death.[break][break]
What is there to say? What could the frog say? Both frog and lizard look at the ground. Around them, the mist is starting to roll in. From the darkness, monsters born of mankind’s dream are watching them. Hattori senses them. He knows if he can, then the blade of justice sitting at the human’s side can see them, too.[break][break]
The pink mist surrounds them on all sides…

what would have been reserved for pokemon was immediately used on dewford's own gym leader.

kyle immediately sprays the contents of the potion onto his handkerchief and presses it against the wound. it's only then that he realizes the severity of the situation.

the body was warm enough for it to be recent enough, but who truly knows the extent of his limits.

kyle bites his lips. he spares no word to the pokemon surrounding him. they know their jobs as danger threatens to keep the avatar from doing his job.

the process of revival seemed natural for kyle, but the logic behind them is lost on him that forcing it was the same as hoping it would just happen. taking away the soaked piece of cloth from his wound, kyle forces a burst of flames to blaze through the gym leader's injury.

if all of these is just an illusion, he's confident terrakion has his back.

An Iron Valiant jumps from the mist to threaten the procession. Hattori springs into action at once. His blade is nothing legendary, but it is honed in the fires of experience. With a clang, he meets the fairy’s blade and beats him back into the mist.[break][break]
That’s the trick, he’s noticed. When they come directly from the mist, all you have to do is push them back into the rift. The rest will handle itself. Turning on his heel, he studies Kyle and his Lord. Fire blazes from the hand into the open wound.[break][break]
Fitting, that a man who wears his heart on his sleeve should die from that heart being pierced. It bleeds now as it often bleeds for others. Life’s flames seep into the wound. Something kindles. On the edge of his hearing, Hattori swears there is a heartbeat.[break][break]
And then, the fog overwhelms them. For a lone moment, there is darkness. Darkness, darker still. When Hattori opens his eyes again, he is in the city where he and these humans were born: Slateport.[break][break]
It’s autumn. School has started. Three kids surround someone. The kid in the middle gives as good as he’s gotten, but eventually numbers overwhelm him. Hattori stands in fascination. It is to Kyle and Terrakion to intervene or not. Neither his Lord nor the Cyclizar who bore his body to Kyle are there anymore.

the magic of his ability was riddled with inconsistencies. nothing but blind trust in ho-oh's blessing eases him enough to continue burning through the corpse with his sacred fire.

first aid stops as the champion's focus shifts alongside the environment. a familiar scene welcomes their entry to the dream world. delinquents and outcasts were often one of the common archetypes for kyle's friends, and this scene was not anything new to him.

he doesn't need to intervene, he tells himself, since he knows someone else will.

the ground shakes with bulldoze, pulling everyone in the clump to the ground. kyle whistles for everyone's attention, and then motions for everyone to get away.

he can't move away while navy's cadaver was in a precarious situation after all.

And that cadaver is gone. In its place is a bloodied kid laying on the ground. Thanks to the intervention of the Sword of Justice, he didn’t get it as bad as he did the day this really happened. This is no Navy, but merely Michael, a boy who happened to live near the orphanage. Kyle might notice, upon further inspection, that these boys look familiar, too. They’re some of his old roommates.[break][break]
“K-Kyle?” Michael asks, wiping blood away. His shirt is lined with the stuff. Walking up to the grown-up, he addresses him now as he did when they were kids. “Some of the guys from your place are jerks. They took that kid’s ball.” Close by, a small boy cries. Every environment has its runt. This was one of Slateport’s.[break][break]
“Someone should teach them a lesson.” He pouts about them the same way he will about Team Rocket when he grows up. Curiously, this child bears the wound on his heart as the adult he will one day become.

terrakion steps forward to confront the bullies, but kyle holds him back. a grunt from the pokemon expresses its displeasure of the choice, but he nonetheless concedes to kyle's decision.

he blinks. confusion stays, but only for a moment. the shock from the sudden change had been there, but automatic responses fill the airs as his mind adjusts to the new scenario.

"y-yeah, you're right, i think, maybe."

uncertainty riddled his reply as he stalls for time for the shock to wear off. he prepares to stand, but given that this is an entirely new scenario spawned by the interdream mist, he assumes that not everything from the moment before remains the same.

"can you get up?"

“Yeah, think so.” Testing himself, Navy stumbles to his feet. In all ways, he’s a picturesque little boy. Scraped knees, bruises positioned oh-so-perfectly to appear the playful result of childish playfighting, smiling despite it all. At the edge of that smile is sadness and a boy’s apprehension.[break][break]
“I kinda wanna go to your place.” For a boy with a family, he likes to venture out. How many nights did he sneak in through the window, hang out with Kyle and Jett under the sheets? Somewhere along the way, he lost count.[break][break]
“Wow.” The world seems to revolve around them. Reality shifts, different panels of distant places panning across a panoramic view. It’s like light cast from a disco ball, a kaleidoscope cast in the young boy’s eyes. “They let you adopt a Pokemon already? So cool.” This dream Navy doesn’t recognize Terrakion for the legend he is. Reaching a hand out, he tries to pet the proud warrior of Unovan legend.

should he role play the way he acted as a child or should he just not care? he supposed both of them fall under the latter.

being apathetic felt the same as being passive in most cases, though both differ in some cases.

"ugh, do you really want to go?" there was a reason someone who wants to coop up in a room ventures out a lot. "that place is too crowded."

his brows furrow for a moment as he reevaluates the situation. he looks up the sky, feigning a judgement of time based on where the sun was. they both know the time since school just started.

"but i guess everyone's out around this time."

he blinks.

next thing he knows, the attention of the boy was on the pokemon. any distaste it has for humans was held back, if only because of the situation. kyle watches him lower his head as navy's hand pets the legend.

"nope," he answers. "it just came to me and stuck around ever since. i would never break orphanage rules like that."

in a way, the first part was true. the second one was false, however.

“You n’ your dogs.” The boy laughs. Laughter heals wounds better than anything. What should have happened before begins. Within Michael’s chest, a fire kindles. For now, they remain mere embers.[break][break]
“Let’s g-” He turns and the scene shifts. What materializes around them isn’t an orphanage. They’re in a quiet living room. When they were kids, Navy never let Kyle come here. It’s a house on the edge of lower Slateport, a quiet place. Michael Navidson’s home is typical of a poor family. Things aren’t kept up as well as they should be.[break][break]
Sitting in the chair, watching television, is a monster. He turns towards them. Joshua Navidson probably didn’t look like this in real life, but such is the nature of dreams. In this interdream mist, he looks more like a Snorlax. Grossly obese, a massive beard runs across an oversized gut. His head scans them all.[break][break]
“You come back to my home looking like this.” The man says, grinding his teeth. “You fight, and you’re too much of a pussy to even win. This your boyfriend and his dog, Michael?” In his hand is a beer bottle. He throws it at Michael with speed and precision one would not expect from a man his size.

kyle doesn't know much about navy's family besides his brother. he never asked, nor was it shared. he never thought much about it until he had been an officer of the law, and the frequent patrols on the area gave him glimpses of his friend's past.

there's no need for him to directly interfere. terrakion's own sense of justice makes it easy for kyle to predict the next sequence of events.

"i'm sorry. my dog's too big."

the start of the sentence started even before terrakion managed to move with quick attack between navy and the projectile. the pokemon knocks the young kid aside with its movement, but kyle remains his sights on navy's supposed father.

he quickly wracks his brain for a better follow up than a witty quip. his brain works overtime to muster the next string of words.

"but i think i'm supposed to report instances of domestic violence as per the laws of the constitution. that was aimed at michael, am i right, sir?"

young kyle wouldn't have worded it that way. he only had a penchant of using big words after he added novels and non-action games under his list of hobbies.

he looks around. "do you have a phone around here?"

The monster smiles. Gripping the arms of his chair, he pulls himself up. At his full height, he breaks through the ceiling. It shatters like glass, leaving the room floating in time and space. Glancing between Kyle and Michael, an announcer on the TV speaks up.[break][break]
“Oh, Marty, it looks like the match with the Top Champion’s about to start. He’s pulling out all the stops today.” [break][break]
“It’s gonna be a good one, Bradley. Both challenger and champ mean business.”[break][break]
“Your boyfriend’s got balls, Michael. A man’s home is his castle. Can’t let you do that.” He belches all over the gathered crowd. A noxious cloud bears down on them, smelling of alcohol. [break][break]
“We don’t like cops around here.”

it wasn't until they're trapped on an island with the final boss that kyle forgets the boundaries of his confidence. a nervous chuckle escapes him as he watches the terrakion leap forward in defense.

stone edge forms a shield of earthen walls before them, blocking the wave of waste towards their direction. a bead of sweat drops down the side of his temple as he helps navy back to his feet.

"oi, boyfriend. what's the plan?"

whether this was actually navy that reverted to an infantile state or just a fragment of his memory being used by the interdream mist to swallow kyle in its might doesn't matter.

this would be kyle's first action. the first forked road on kyle's flowchart on how to traverse this story depends on what comes out of his mouth.
