Large paws splay over the bed and its slumbering inhabitant, a giant flank just barely nailing the landing against the floor with a loud 'THUMP'. And oh, the mane that falls right over the poor man's face is a jungle far too wild to navigate.

If it wasn't for the massive cat currently pinning him down, Isaac would have probably flopped right out of bed from the shock. Instead, he flopped like a freshly caught fish, his attempts at speaking muffled by Reiner's mane. Who in the world thought this was a good idea? Now he was gonna smell like cat and be covered in hair all day.[break][break]

Sighing, Isaac's ever-present Musharna evaluated the situation. The multicolored dream mist flowing from her forehead was now an agitated red color, her eyes narrowed in frustration. Why did something always have to happen when she was trying to do her job? For a moment, her forehead began to spark, a Psybeam primed and at the ready.[break][break]

Then, instead of firing, she lazily floated forward to boop Reiner with her forehead. It was a far gentler way of getting across the same idea; move!

His claws remain partially sheathed and gently rake over crumpled bedsheets. Oddly enough, woven in with the smell of cat is petrichor and a hint of rust that grows stronger by the minute.[break][break]

But whatever frustration that brews in the Musharna's heart is nothing compared to that which lurks beneath. Before one can even begin to make sense of the situation, malice floods the room. Pressure grows within the head, its ravenous nature sinking their teeth into and consuming those present.[break][break]

Eyes of ichor settle upon his weary visage, unyielding as the pixie waits with an outstretched hand.

Perhaps it was a testament to how used to Eris' antics Isaac was that he didn't even blink. By now, Mesprit's Pressure was something he tended to associate more with cookie runs than night terrors. At least, that was the case when it came to the first wave of pressure. The second wave of pressure quickly made it clear that Mesprit wasn't fucking around.[break][break]

"Okay, okay, I get it," he said, fumbling one hand to reach for Mesprit's and another to reach for whatever Pokeballs were looped around his belt that day. It didn't matter that he was still in his pajamas. If Eris was in need, he'd be there. "Just bring me where I gotta go, okay?"[break][break]

As the haze of sleep began to fade, he found himself wondering just why Reiner smelled of rust.

[attr="class","inner-finally"]Cold air stings their noses when they land, a heavy tangle of barbed-wire vines hastily slashed through as pieces lay scattered to the sides. Behind is a trail of jagged rocks, surfaces lightly scorched but otherwise unmarred.[break][break]

For a moment, Reiner pauses in his steps and leans back, scrunching his nose as he lifts and nips at something in his front paw. Then he spits it out, hissing at the bloody thorn before licking at the still lodged piece. Mesprit's silent as they flutter close, gently taking Reiner's paw and glancing over the wound. But without the ability to heal, they can only let out a sigh.[break][break]

"Brriii!!"[break][break]

Crying out into the wild garners them no response. For once, the pixie looks very lost. Anger gives way to an unsettling sensation in the chest, an emptiness that can't be filled as the pixie begins to fidget with their hands. On the other hand, Reiner puts his snout to the ground, attempting to sniff for something but ultimately coming up short with a grunt.

[attr="class","textbox"]"Phew. It's okay, big guy. S'just a little thorn." Isaac smiled softly as he looked at Reiner's paw. With how acute the smell of blood had been, he was worried there had been far worse injuries. "Here. Let me take a look."[break][break]

This would have been an easy job for a first aid kit. However, in his rush to join Reiner aid Mesprit, all he had on him were his pajamas. That meant nothing but baggy pants and a thin undershirt, neither of which he could BS into an impromptu pair of tweezers.[break][break]

Luckily, he had better than tweezers. "I don't know what we're looking for, Mes, but we'll be faster if everyone's in top shape. Think you could break out any Psychic powers on that thorn?" He rolled his shoulder, cracked his fingers, and began generating some mist along the length of his fingers. "You do that, and I'll get that wound wrapped up lickety split."[break][break]

Sure enough, if Mesprit could help, Isaac would be hot on their heals. The mist would coalesce into healing waters, settling into the wound to help seal it up and cleanse Reiner's fur. From there, he'd have to improvise; a thin rip off of his shirt would make a perfectly fine cloth bandage, tied gingerly around the Luxray's paw.[break][break]

"Alright, buddy. Lead the way."

Only to be interrupted by Reiner as he goes in once more, biting down on the thorn and ripping it right out. Then he sits there, offering his paw out to Isaac with a rather expectant look.[break][break]

But that's as far as that attitude gets him. As soon as they're asked to lead the way, Mesprit begins chattering, their tails twisting as they narrow their eyes at the twisted treelines. On the other hand, Reiner can only a despondent grunt, shaking his head as he attempts to lead the way.[break][break]

One step, two steps. He falters, sniffing harder at the ground before perking back up to try and listen for something. Then he too, like Mesprit, begins to cry out into the wild, a strained yowl that he's never made before. Where Reiner is, Eris must be close. And yet, in this particular situation, nothing about that statement holds true. Taking a few more steps forwards, the Luxray's strides lengthen, his paces quickens, his calls grow louder.[break][break]

All that answers, however, is the rustling of leaves as the trees bow their heads low.

There was no time to judge. All Isaac could do was ramp up the healing efforts a little to match. The pinprick of a thorn he could've healed up entirely, but Reiner's gnawing might take an hour or two of being left alone. Isaac could see where Eris got her tendencies from now.[break][break]

Despite that, they had no time for rest. They just needed to move. Mesprit and Reiner were louder, more agitated, more flat-out distressed than before. Whatever was happening here, Isaac didn't like it. He hustled to try and keep pace with them, not wanting to meld into the winds and end up leaving them behind.[break][break]

Reiner froze, reduced to doing little more than yowling at the wind. Damnit. They were at a dead end now. Isaac ran a hand along his belt, wondering if any of the Pokemon he's grabbed at random could lend a hand. With a shrug, he ripped a Pokeball off his belt, only to groan when he noticed the shape taking form in the release light.[break][break]

"Oh, Arceus. It's Polly Roger."[break][break]

"It's Polly Roger! It's Polly Roger!" Isaac groaned into his hands as the Chatot flew in circles around him. Of all the Pokemon he could've grabbed, why did it have to be him? The Chatot promptly perched on his shoulder, preening himself while merrily comparing himself to Arceus all the while.[break][break]

The other Pokeballs didn't seem much more useful. Drilbur, Mantine, Scrafty, Golurk, and Toxtricity. Not his usual search and rescue team, but, fuck it, they'd manage.[break][break]

"Alright, Rei, Mes. What're we doing out here?"

[attr="class","inner-finally"]With how highstrung Mesprit is in the moment, it really is a wonder how they don't attempt to turn a Psychic force against the Chatot. Reiner, on the other hand, is a little less amused, snarling at Polly Roger as if that might get him to stop. But perhaps, the ruckus need not stop -[break][break]

Leaves shake free of their branches, blood red pupils pinning them within their sights as a Seed Bomb drops down upon them. There, tangled up in shadows and nature's grasp, is a Seviper. One that Reiner noticeably bristles at whilst Mesprit begins to channel a Mystical Power.[break][break]

Drowning beneath the flood of emotions, a voice whispers whilst the pixie screams. In an instant, plants are uprooted and rocks are ripped from the earth, each sent hurtling towards the serpent without the slightest hint of holding back.[break][break]

Mesprit's whispering voice was something Isaac may have easily missed. However, Polly hadn't, and the new words added to his squawking vocabulary were impossible to miss. Isaac made a mental note of the addition, but there wasn't much time to unpack it. This battle was kicking off.[break][break]

A strange Seviper, far more attuned to nature than most of its kind, stared Isaac and the group down from the treeline. Mesprit attacked, relentlessly bombarding it with anything their psychic force could take hold of, while Reiner remained uncharacteristically still. Rather than attack, he simply bristled. Was it from fear? Rage?[break][break]

Luckily, words weren't the only thing Polly Roger could mimic. Its Mirror Move promptly latched onto Mesprit's nexus of mystical force, an inferior copy of it now swirling around the bird. Any debris that ricocheted off of the Seviper would now be sucked into the Chatot's nexus of psychic power, allowing it to careen into the Seviper a second time.[break][break]

If the two Pokemon positioned themselves just so, the poor serpent would be in the center of an endless bombardment.

[attr="class","inner-finally"]Quick and slick, the Seviper slithers and darts away from danger. Its jaws open wide, pitch black plumes spewed as a Haze seeks to cover the field. And right as it happens, Reiner steps closer to Isaac, coiling his tail around the man's arm and holding tight.[break][break]

Static electricity buzzes through his mane, his eyes gleaming bright as he rapidly jerks his attention from one side to another. The smoke grows thicker, Mesprit's screeches reduced to hacks and coughs as they hold tight to the Luxray. Though one might not be able to see, they'd still be blessed with the ability to hear - The crunching of churned dirt and a strange lullaby echoing through the smoke. As the crunching grows louder, so emerges a new sound: A quiet beat of something... swinging.[break][break]

Reiner tenses, growls as he presses his flank against Isaac's back. A low Thunder Wave emanates from his feet to slow, but experience has him fearing that he can't possibly hope to defend against this particular threat.[break][break]

A Hypno appears before Isaac's very eyes, locking gazes with him as it raises a ring tied to a piece of string. And with the rhythmic swaying of the pendulum attempts to draw him in, to ensnare his mind before he even realises what is happening.

Until the Hypno was in Isaac's face, he thought it was just the sound of tree branches in the wind.[break][break]

He froze up, because how couldn't he? In that moment of surprise, his guard was down, and that was all the opening the Hypno needed. His eyes locked onto the swaying rhythm of its pendulum, and his body started to go slack. "Yes, master . . ." he breathed, his will no longer his own . . .[break][break][break][break]

"YES, MASTER!"[break][break]

Before Isaac could truly settle into the trance, Polly Roger's Boomburst damn near flung him across the forest. The Chatot began flying in circles around the Hypno, clawing and pecking at it to try and stop it from regaining its composure. All the while, it did something Isaac never thought he'd be glad to see Polly Roger do:[break][break]

Speak.[break][break]

"Polly Roger! Polly Roger! It's alright! It's the one master, Polly Roger!" Each prattle, each bit of Chatter, stood all the more chance of befuddling the befuddler. "We out-Arceus Arceus! The one master, Polly Roger! Yes! Yes! Yes!"[break][break]

If this was how Isaac was going to be rescued, maybe death and slash or eternal servitude would have been preferable.

Nerves flare as they stare deep into his eyes, looking for even a spark of consciousness amidst the muddled thoughts. And if that isn't enough, they begin frowning, shaking his head back and forth whilst barking at him.

Clearly, that meant it was the perfect time for Mesprit to ring his bell more with a bunch of slaps to the face. His head jostled back and forth with each slap and shake.[break][break]

"M'up, m'up, m'up . . ." Those could only be the mups of a sleepy boy that had finally been shaken awake. He audibly groaned, clutching his head as the last, lingering echoes of the Boomburst slowly started to fade from memory. He wearily looked not at Mesprit but past them, noticing as Reiner and Polly Roger manhandled the Hypno and Seviper that once threatened them.[break][break]
