Polly Roger took after the Seviper, letting out his own squawks of "Thief! Thief! Out, thief, out!" At least it wouldn't be very hard to follow them. Polly could be heard from half a damn city block away.[break][break]

At Reiner's offer for a ride, Isaac shot him a relaxed smile. "Nah, I'm all good," he said, giving the Luxray a pat on the flank. " 'Sides, I've got just the guy for the job." Isaac tore another Pokeball, rough and rugged, from off of his belt. This one felt familiar. Could it be-[break][break]

Yes! His Titan was here! The shining Golurk stooped down, offering a hand to scoop Isaac up in. He eagerly accepted, and in moments the two were ready and able to Fly off.[break][break]

Was it overkill to try and catch a snake? Maybe, but after nearly being hypnotized Isaac was tired of taking chances.

Through the twisted roots and tangled branches, the Seviper seems far more interested in losing its pursuers than it is in attempting to fight back. But try as it may, there's no real escape when a screaming Chatot remains on its tail. [break][break]

Hellfire are bellowed from the serpent's mouth, bright colours licking the trees and kissing the ground as the inferno rushes towards them. Shadows dance in the vicious light, voices melting in the roaring flames - Panicked, grim.

With the power of his Mimic Move, he'd decided to fight fire with fire. The Chatot and Seviper danced around one another, each trying to bring the heat.[break][break]

That voice didn't sound like Isaac's. It didn't sound like Mes', either. Whatever was going on now, they weren't alone. Isaac motioned for Titan to hush. The Golurk's soulfire engines ebbed down to cool runnings in response. Together, they skirted above the treeline, preparing to get the drop on their mysterious adversary.[break][break]

Emphasis on drop.[break][break]

If the sound of shattered earth and snapped trees didn't get the thief's attention, the "meteor" that fell behind him unfurling into a furious Golurk would certainly do the trick. The threat was clear. The Heavy Slam that turned the ground beneath him into a crater could have done the same to every part of his body.[break][break]

Perched atop Titan's shoulders, Isaac glared down at the new challenger. There wasn't even a shred of pity in his cold eyes. "Hey, buddy," he said, voice low and dangerous. "I just wanna have a little chat."

Titan reached out to pinch the man by the back of the collar. It'd be trivial for a Pokemon so big and strong to hoist him up like a mama cat carrying her kittens. That just let Isaac look the mysterious figure dead in the eye. His arms were folded, his head was slightly cocked, and a downright predatory grin spread across his face.[break][break]

For a moment, he was the spitting image of the Rocket he once was.[break][break]

"How 'bout I make this easy for ya?" he asked, giving Titan a pat on the shoulder. "My buddy here? He doesn't miss. Ever. Trust me. He could drop you on the ground right now, give you a nice, long head start, and still squash you like a pancake in ten. Seconds. Flat. But I wanna face you like a man, so. For today, either you talk or you're on pinata duty."[break][break]

The figure had mentioned Chu-e. Mesprit and Reiner were in the middle of a panic attack. Eris hadn't called to tell him he was going on an adventure. The numbers didn't lie, and they spelled disaster for both his sweet little sister and the miserable fuck who hurt her.[break][break]

"We'll start with the million dollar question; where the fuck is Eris?"

At the same time, he had a point. Isaac couldn't operated like he did in Rocket, even to the scum that deserved it.[break][break]

"Oh yeah? Says who?" He looked the man up and down, as if trying to see something, anything, that clued Isaac in as to who they were. A Rocket? Some unaffiliated crook? Just an asshole that saw his chance to start shit? Perhaps a closer inspection would reveal more, but at least one obvious answer hung in the balance.[break][break]

He'd snatch the radio right off of his captive. He made sure not to hit the button that would let his voice be heard until he had a better idea of what was on the other side. "And if you don't answer, maybe I'll just have to phone a friend."

The pure hatred in Isaac's eyes melted away the second he put two and two together. Replacing it was something new. Something different. Shame. Pity. Revulsion, both towards the broken man dangling between Titan's fingers and towards himself. In his anger, his finger pressed ruefully into the speaker button.[break][break]

"Believe me, there's nothing high and mighty about me." The harsh edge to his voice frayed down into a pile of weary strings. "I'm no hero. I'm just a guy trying to get his sister back, 'cause the world's full of monsters and I'm sick of her being forced to make it her problem."[break][break]

"I don't want a fight, man. I just want her to be okay."[break][break]

He'd fended off assassination attempts from Rocket, time and time again. But this? This was new. The sad part was, with this little vigilante act not having a big R stamped on top of it, the League would never treat it with the same gravity. They were kidnappers, maybe even child killers. They'd get their due, but no matter what happened it'd be too good for them.[break][break]

"But lemme tell you something. This shit right here? It's exactly what they want." He sat down in the crook of Titan's elbow, looking Eris' kidnapper eye to eye. "Team Rocket's out to poison this region. They're gonna keep doing whatever the hell they want, and the League's gonna get worse and worse to try and finally stop 'em. And with every length they stoop to, Rocket's gonna point at it and go 'look, look. We're bad, but they're worse'."[break][break]

"They want to take a region full of victims and make 'em into monsters, 'cause that's all their fit to lord over."[break][break]

"That really how you want this to go?" Isaac's eyes were firmer now, a challenge slicing through this bitter acceptance. "Hurting a child just so you can say you got even? If you wanna sell your soul to Rocket like that, be my guest. But take it from someone that's been there. All it's gonna do is ruin you."

But this man remains frigid, his gaze hardening as he locks eyes with Isaac.[break][break]

"Fuck you. You think Choi gave a fuck when he killed my kid? Any of our kids?" Snarls betray just how much of this conversation he's absorbed. "Suddenly he shows up in League custody. Has a kid of his own. Trying so hard to pretend he's human like the rest of us."

They didn't give enough of a fuck to leave the life they knew behind, even when it was for their daughter's sake. They didn't give enough of a fuck to stand by her side, forcing her to face a world that distrusted and fear her by herself. They felt horrible about it, sure. But they'd rather die feeling awful and pitying themselves than work up the balls to face their fate.[break][break]

Maybe it was because they had an even bigger, even scarier fate awaiting them. Yet instead of standing by Eris until they were dead, they decided to be dead to her, instead. Isaac sympathized, and yet a part of him hated Chu-e Choi for it.[break][break]

"They tried to be better. They failed. Maybe it was because they'd done too much to take back. Maybe it was just because they were a coward. But they still tried, even if it was too late for them." Isaac hated to admit it, but sometimes it was too late for someone. They could only help themselves if they wanted to. "You're not like that. But taking your hate out on some kid's the first step down that road."[break][break]

" 'Sides." Isaac patted Titan's wrist, the Golurk cautiously setting the two of them down. "You've got a better target now."
