Johanna strutted into the Fortree Gym. A confident stride in her step carrying forward. The Gym Circuit had never been her main focus. But she would be lying if she claimed she didn’t miss battling as a whole.

Luckily there was little wait time at the Gym. Surprisingly so, given she had only heard good things about this place. But be that as it may, she waited the time she needed to taking the opportunity to summon her Dragapult in the process.

“Ready for a battle, Ethan?” She asked cheerily.

The Dragapult nodded just as eagerly.

By then their time was up, and they made their way to the Arena ready to face Alexei Ivanov.

Now, see, the funny thing here was—

Of the two secretaries that she would meet, it would be Claire of all things, not the one who seemingly shared a nickname with the Dragapult that was already out and ready to throw hands.

Oh, he’s going to love this, she continued to herself as she let the man of the hour know that the next challenger for the day had already arrived and was raring to fight!

“He’ll be here shortly—” she trailed off, before less than three minutes later the man himself arrived.

“Oh, wow, someone’s ready to—Miss Johanna?!” he exclaimed as he realized just who had shown up at the front.

So she was going to be his second challenger for the day?

It didn’t take long for the Gym Leader to join them. Johanna snickered as Alexei seemed surprised by her.

“Yep, that's me.” She nodded in agreement. “I figured it was about time that I gave you a visit!” She answered the question she knew was coming.

“And this guy here needed the exercise as well.”

The Dragapult had already flown into the arena. Raring to go, it flew about idly waiting for whatever opponent would show up. It prayed his trainer wasn’t going to have a long conversation before they would begin.

The heebie-jeebie radar went off the moment he realized just what Pokémon she’d brought along.

(Look, he has an innate radar for Ghost-types, okay?! He can tell!)

“Alright, you two, come on—don’t want to wreck the reception area, follow me,” he continued as he gave Claire a smirk before heading towards the right-side door that led to the outdoor, open-air arena and opening the door.

“Ladies first,” he would call over Johanna’s way. Once they were both outside, he would follow them and close the door behind him.

Surprisingly, there was no aerial show of Flying-type Pokémon that would greet her—as it was feeding time, so they were all on the grounds scattered everywhere, feasting on bird seed, Berries, and the like.

“You wanted just the one-on-one match, right?” he confirmed a few moments later once they’d reached the arena.

Johanna and the Heebie-jeebie dragon followed Alexei out to the outdoor arena. For a brief moment she was surprised to see a lack of flying types. She figured there must be some reason, and so did not question it. She focused instead on the question posed by Alexei.

“Yes, a one-on-one match.” Johanna nodded and her dragon nodded as well. It was eager, some might say too eager to get this battle started. “And he’ll be my fighter.” She gestured for the Ghost/Dragon by her side.

The moment she revealed that her companion was going to be the Pokémon he would be going up against, he felt the skin on the back of his neck crawl for the briefest of moments—geez, what a bane to have an absolutely useless talent of being able to easily detect a Ghost-type Pokémon, wouldn’t you say?!

Either way…

There would be one shadow that would come streaking over the moment they walked out onto the arena—it was Gabriel the Salamence, who was still gnawing on a few Berries in his mouth as he flew lower and closer to the ground—

“Yeah, that’s why they didn’t show off, the cheeky little shitheads,” he gestured as the Salamence quickly made short work of the Berries in his mouth and then roaring his challenge to the skies; fixing his stare on the Dragapult on the other side of the field.

“You get first move, Miss Johanna!” he called out once his Salamence assumed the ‘ready’ position.

Everyone took their ready position and with a few quick words from Alexei the battle could begin.

“Ethan, slow and steady.” Johanna commanded and with that the Dragapult flew off into the air. She might have said slow and steady but steady was the only word that might fit as the Dragapult darted around in the air making himself a hard target to hit.

But of course he was not just going to fly around like a mad-ghost. As he flew around he took aim and when he felt it suitable he would let a salvo of tiny incredibly tiny dreepy fly. These small missiles would seek to latch onto his opponent in a veritable INFESTATION.

This was going to be either really fast, or a drawn-out match; because all things considered there was something coming, and he immediately pulled out the flecked metallic bird whistle.

(No, he was not going to Mega Evolve! At least not yet anyway.)

Rather than touching the strange keychain charm that hung off it (which was where his Key Stone was) he blew exactly one note; unheard to all but the Salamence, who immediately bellowed before calling up a sudden avalanche of boulders in the form of a Rock Slide attack!

An attempt to block the incoming attack was made; but would it hold?

• Salamence is out on the field; and used Rock Slide as a blocking / shielding attempt against the incoming Infestation attack!

Boulders manifested in the air taking the infestation that was meant for Salamence. But neither Johanna nor the Dragapult seemed worried. Their roles were well trained, she observed and would only speak up when she deemed it necessary. Dragapult would otherwise work on its own.

And work it did. Nimbly it dodged the falling boulders as it pushed itself through the air at incredible speed toward the Salamence, seemingly even picking up speed as a blue aura began to coat it in draconic energies, preparing it for the delivery of a powerful DRAGON RUSH.
