Promises like that always bred disappointment. Such is natural in such fragile relationships between individuals better left apart.

The burning ambers of her eyes were reduced to a soft pile of ash, reminiscent of a woman repeatedly burnt, bruised, and damaged by those around. The soft confession loosened her jaw with ease. There was so much she could've said, so much she could've explained, but before any words could come out, a shoulder nudged into her back, grounding her thoughts back to reality.

"lets get out of here." She jutted out her chin, motioning toward their right, back where little light illuminated night. A second later her hand connected with his, and she led him away from the still-twirling crowd of dancers, her heart knotted to the deep instrumental soaking into the air.

It is only after a curtain of shadows shrouds their presence that Penelope turns around, looking up at Cian no differently than she had nearly a year ago.

She'd spent hours preparing that terrace, ensuring every pillow was properly fed enough stuffing, or the blankets were comfortable enough to lay on. Back then, it'd been ages since another man had truly pierced her thoughts, and she wanted everything to flow perfectly.

His question noticeably surprised her, both with its sudden nature and mirroring whisper of desire.
