Eddie really shouldn't be here, but he couldn't help himself. When he caught wind of a group of volunteers (militiamen, more or less) and League personnel heading down further into Area Zero to dispatch a horde of paradox Pokemon, he found himself compelled to join them. These creatures were dangerous, and he'd seen the violence they were capable of firsthand. He had to do his part to help stop them, or else, the second chance he'd been given would have been for nothing. [break][break]

He had been content to mill about the edge of the group, waiting for the command to advance further into the cavernous depths, when Eddie caught sight of familiar blue eyes in the sea of faces. No, it couldn't be him, could it? Before he could really think about what he was doing, Eddie began to force his way through the group of strangers, [break][break]

“Kaz?"[break][break]

There was a lilt of trepidation in his voice that was unintentional but unavoidable. Eddie couldn't help but think of the wilting marigolds back in his apartment, juxtaposed with the carnage of his first foray into these uncharted lands. Kazimir Wynter seemed like a strong guy, sure, with a strong as hell Pokemon, if his memory of their time together at the VCT was anything to go off of, but Eddie couldn't stop the lancing fear that pierced his heart. In his mind's eye, he saw yellow petals stained with blood. [break][break]

Running into a den full of Paradox Pokemon was probably the farthest thing anyone around here would actually want to do. Yet Kazimir Wynter was one of the crazy ones, being one of the first of the current group to volunteer to head down into this shimmering new hell to clean it up. It was a job that needed doing and the man was one of the few that could put the fear of the unknown aside to make sure that it didn't cripple him.

Of course that didn't mean there were some that still let that fear get the better of them. He couldn't blame them. Just like how he couldn't blame a certain man he's met recently to feel scared of losing someone they had recently befriend over a short time. "Eddy?"

His head perks up from checking his belt when he hears his name and sees the familiar face of one of his rivals during the Vital Tournament that it puts a smile on his face as he pushes his way through to meet the man. As they get closer he raises a hand up to greet him, a high five between brothers who forged a bond in combat, a small ray of light in this dower setting. "Hey man! Didn't expect to see you here!"

A bright smile and the rather ordinary pleasure of sharing a high five at least did a little to quell the rising fear in Eddie's chest. He felt himself relaxing somewhat in spite of himself, [break][break]

“Was gonna ask you the same thing! Heard folks were headin' further in to take out some'a the paradox Pokemon; figured I could lend a hand.” [break][break]

The concern hadn't entirely abated, though; did Kazimir know what he was getting himself into? [break][break]

“This actually ain't my first time out in these parts,” Eddie started cautiously. His brows furrowed; he tried to concentrate on saying his piece without dredging up any of the horrific visuals in his mind's eye, “I work construction, and volunteered with some folks to try and build an outpost. It, uh... didn't end well, lemme tell ya.”[break][break]

That's the condensed version, at least. He'd like to tell the younger man about his run-in with the cowboy that rescued him, but that could wait until they were out of this deathtrap. [break][break]

Eddie's gaze became stern, dark brown eyes locking with sky-blue. If Kazimir didn't understand the possible danger he was in, the older man was determined to make him understand, [break][break]

“You run into these things before, Kaz? They're goddamn monsters; tore through that site like the walls were made outta cardboard.”[break][break]

"Oh." He wanted to ask how many. The man didn't need to say anything else for Kaz to understand what he meant, he could probably guess at what he was feeling. But it was probably impolite to do so, "That...sucks man."

For now he would be understanding.

Eddie's next look made it kind of hard to do so. Kaz recognized it. Someone like FERNANDO SILPH or Michael Navidson had the same kind of look sometimes. "Uh..."

So how was he gonna tell Eddie that this wasn't his first or even third rodeo with danger?

"Yeah...I have. And probably even worse. I even have-" A scream cut him off as a roar dwarfed any other sound followed by flapping wings as a Roaring Moon swooped above the group scattering most of them as they ran for cover. Kaz just stood in front of Eddie to act like a shield as he took out two balls and dropped them.

From out of them popped two creatures that a few of the volunteers seemed to recognize as the two creatures resembled a Volcarona from both the past and future. Iron Moth and Slither Wing, two creatures that only stared down at the ancient Salamence and chirped in its direction, "Firery Dance! Lunge!"

The two paradoxes waste no time following Kaz's word as the Iron Moth's wings come alive with flames and swirl around the dragon to keep it in place with burns and cuts while the Slither Wing runs up and rams its whole body into the dragon slamming it against a wall. "Look alive folks! Might have more of these en route! Get those defenses up!"

No way was he going to let anyone die on his watch today.

Eddie felt a pang of guilt at Kaz's reaction. Shit, maybe he'd come on a little too harsh? What the hell was the younger man supposed to say in response to his little doom-and-gloom spiel? He didn't have much time to pivot the conversation, or react to whatever Kaz was about to say, when a primordial roar ripped through the air. [break][break]

The hairs on the back of Eddie's neck stood on end. He'd heard that ancient scream before, or at least had heard a creature that was kin to it, but he was determined not to let some Mesozoic monster get the jump on him. He pulled out the couple of Poke Balls he had with him, but by the time he had looked up, he saw the broad shoulders of Kaz shielding him from flapping wings and tearing claws. No, that wasn't right; Eddie was supposed to be the meat shield here, [break][break]

“Batou, August!” he called, taking a step back and releasing his Pokemon. A Lucario and a Rhydon emerged in flashes of red light, “Give us some cover!” [break][break]

The Lucario barked sharply in reply, firing an AURA SPHERE at the dragon after it had made it's acquaintance with a wall, courtesy of the similarly ancient looking Volcarona-esque Pokemon under Kaz's control. The Rhydon roared, stamping forward and loosing a STONE EDGE, creating a barricade of rock to shield themselves behind. Other creatures would doubtless come running, but at least they could establish a temporary fortification to attack from. [break][break]
