The DRILLING RIG was certainly heavier than Remiel had anticipated, but not heavy enough that he couldn't carry it through AREA ZERO upon his back. A lazier man might have employed the use of a Pokémon instead, but the exiled prince seemed insistent. Once they found a suitable site— a flat expanse of thin grass with scattered stone and rich soil— he would set the rig down and wipe the sweat off his brow with a handkerchief.[break][break]

"This seems like a promising spot," The archaeologist says, taking a gander at their surroundings as he pulls a Luxury Ball free from his belt. With a simple toss, a large GARGANACL is summoned to keep watch over them. Turning to his partner, HEAD RANGER ollie morales, he continues: "What do you think, Ollie? Good line of sight in every direction, right?"[break][break]

[break][break] The Head Ranger stood with Archeologist (and Amnesty Program graduate) Remiel Calcifet as they found a spot to set up the DRILLING RIG. There was no time to waste, after all. Who knew what kind of pokemon would be able to creep up on them while they got started. So far, at least, there were no threats in sight.

"This is my first time, actually," Remiel responds as he begins preparing the drilling rig's mechanisms for use. Despite his words, his hands seem to know exactly where everything is. "But I've done this sort of thing before aboveground. It's not unlike the sort of tests I run to determine whether an archaeological excavation is possible or not."[break][break]

Holding the hefty drilling rig up straight with both hands, he clicks his tongue and gestures for ollie morales to come over with a toss of his head. "Help me unfurl its tripod legs, would you? Then we can start drilling." He smiles.[break][break]

Meanwhile, just nearby, his large Garganacl carefully manages to pluck a flower from the ground with its obtuse hands. It raises this flower and seems to attempt to smell it. There was no danger to be faced yet. But that would soon change.[break][break]

"Really?" Ollie was surprised, but then again, there was always a first time for everyone. "Well, then it's a first for both of us then!"

[break][break] He grinned, easygoing as ever. Though, Remiel definitely had a lot more experience in general — especially with what he said about having done this kind of thing above ground.

[break][break] The Head Ranger wandered over with a nod, pulling apart the contraption's tripod legs. It was not quite anything like Ollie had seen before, but he was also used to dealing with all sorts of strange equipment. The League often had Rangers test things out first — considering how many of it's Rangers were used to dealing with field work.

Remiel nods with a somewhat excited smile, then cranks the drilling rig on. Sure enough, the contraption comes to life with a mechanical roar, piercing its drill into the ground below before digging down. Even his Garganacl pauses to acknowledge it.[break][break]

A wild SANDY SHOCKS wriggles itself from the ground nearby, seemingly disturbed by the activity the two rangers have just commenced. Once it's freed, each of its eyes acts independently of the other, assessing all of its targets as it spreads an ELECTRIC TERRAIN beneath its feet. Then, with a strange call, it attempts to pin everyone down with increased GRAVITY.[break][break]

The sound of the drill was impossibly loud, and for a moment, Ollie thought that was the cause of the tension that he suddenly felt in his muscles, dragging him to the ground.

[break][break] But no, it was the sudden appearance of a SANDY SHOCKS and it's use of gravity. Ollie grimaced. This felt weirdly like deja vu, reminding him of a recent encounter with a drill and also Roy Aker.

[break][break] "Mochi!"

[break][break] Luckily, his Wyrdeer came to his defense. The Wyrdeer's PSYCHIC both propelled the pokemon up against the gravity, before blasting outwards in an attempt to throw the Sandy Shocks off it's aim.

Traumatized by his recent POISON PATROLS, Remiel resists the GRAVITY to look around. "Mochi?! Where?!" But, instead, soon comes to realize that is the name of the WYRDEER that Ollie has summoned.[break][break]

When it lifts the SANDY SHOCKS into the air with its PSYCHIC power, RAPHAIM is sure to slam it back down with his own control over GRAVITY. The combo renders the PARADOX POKEMON immobile for the time being as it struggles to break free. Ollie and Remiel, in the meantime, feel far less heavy than they did seconds ago.[break][break]

Rushing to check the interface panel on the drilling rig, Remiel nods. "The geological survey is at 75%! Just a bit longer!" He communicates, turning back to the SANDY SHOCKS when, against all odds, it rises from the ground with a crackling DISCHARGE.[break][break]

MOCHI. Ollie would have no way of knowing how much the civilians of Hoenn would have been traumatized by the name mochi when he'd first named his Wyrdeer. It would have been a laughable moment, if the situation wasn't already so dire.

[break][break] When the SANDY SHOCKS rises back to life, discharge crackling in the air around him, Ollie's gaze snaps to him.

[break][break] "Don't worry! We got 'em"!

[break][break] Between Mochi's antlers, a ball of dark energy grows. Even as the DISCHARGE gathers, the ebony sphere crashes before it come to fruition, tossing the Sandy Shocks backwards and down the hill. Breathlessly, Ollie glances backwards.

Remiel's Garganacl tanks the DISCHARGE that washes over it, then advances toward the SANDY SHOCKS with a strangely intimidating noise. Before it can hope to strike the PARADOX POKEMON with a DRAGON HAMMER, however, Mochi the Wyrdeer intervenes. Its attack manages to cast the strange being backward and down a nearby hill.[break][break]

Needless to say, this gives the drilling rig more than enough time to finish its survey without being destroyed first. "We got it!" Remiel cheers, closing out the interface before rejoining his comrade. "We should have enough time to pack up the drilling rig and take it back as well. Well done, Ollie." He smiles, offering a high-five.[break][break]
