a handshake stifles what humility fernando can spare at the other’s words. for verbal foreplay can only circle around so many times before the edging gets in the way of their priorities. after all, these grounds are unexplored and therefore dangerous. prepare for the worst and expect the unexpected.

hoenn’s staple, a SALAMENCE, careens its elongated neck over the chasm’s edge. while not as reckless nor as sharp as freya morningstar, fernando’s chance at dragon riding is swift and without restraint. the pokemon takes a few steps before plunging into the open sky, descending in a nosedive to expedite their surveying.

Man of few words.

The knight followed in his Corviknight after the Councilman, descending into the depths of AREA ZERO. He closed his eyes, the deafeaning gale whipping past.

It wasn't long before their pokemon were spreading their wings wide to stop themselves short of splatting against a granite ground floor.

Swinging himself off his Corviknight, he patted her neck gently and muttered his thanks before returning her to her pokeball. As she disappeared in a red flash, the shadows around his feet deepened briefly, before he turned his gaze to Fernando.

He nodded to the man.

Mission, start.

THEIR OBJECTIVE IS SIMPLE: map out an area for analysis. the new area, dubbed AREA ZERO, is too big to scan at large. smaller, more intimate retrievals are required in order to understand the biodiversity and its geology. deep beneath hoenn’s surface, even some technology has prove to fizzle out.

“clear.”

so far, the area seems simple. safe. for the land proves more fertile than the SILENT ICELANDS that proceed it. in fact. it prove too illustrious. as if it should be teeming with life.

Nodding at the other's words, the knight plucked a pokeball off his belt, releasing a Rotom-drone.

As it flew over them, its silent rotors keeping it suspended, its 360 camera took in the area surrounding them.

Briefly, Gwyar stopped walking, eyes taking in one detail in the background, before he suddenly began looking around them wearily. Finally, the man gestured at the councilman silently.

Numerous thin, yellow electro-webs could be found on the many surfaces around them, if one looked hard enough.

They had wandered near a Galvantula hive. If they wanted to avoid a fight, it was best to leave. Otherwise, it was best to find it before it found them.

FERNANDO IS UNFAZED BY THE SIGHT. nor does he mind the pokemon in question. while his knowledge of the pokemon is far from intimate, he knows the pokemon well enough to know it is not only found here, in AREA ZERO. these pokemon, no matter how problematic, are just that. pokemon.

“we can go the other way,” he suggest, uninterested in causing needless conflict.

There were numerous creatures that warranted preserving one's strength in AREA ZERO.

ROLL ANY NUMBER WITH A 4. - Feel a sudden debilitating pang of fear.

As Gwyar turned to follow Fernando in averting their path— a chill ran down his spine, making him stop in place, eyes growing as his smile thinned into a flat line.

Every hair on his body stood on end, and for a brief moment, he forgot how to breathe, knees buckling and bringing him to one knee.

The shadow of the ruinous vessel hung over AREA ZERO's depths.

The moment passed, and with it, the feral horror that had gripped at him.

"... This... Ah. My apologies." He released a breath, sweat dripping down. "I wonder; is the vessel of ruin near, or does its power merely linger wherever its been?"

WHERE GWYAR FALLS TO HIS KNEE, fernando refuses to budge. he stills. frozen. as he did when Elisabeth Fiorelli had tried to corrupt in his own MISTY TERRAIN. inaction had proven to be his strongest weapon. able to steel the mind to prevent his body from crumbling.

his nose wrinkles when he gives himself back control to move his body.

"Indeed..." Gwyar cupped his chin thoughtfully, still on one knee, before fetching a pokeball from his belt. "But perhaps—?"

His Gallade was out a moment later, his gaze falling upon Gwyar and widening briefly, his blades snapping out.

"I'm afraid there's nothing to fight off yet. I stumbled all on my own." Gwyar chuckled at his pokemon, finally standing up. "Still. Stay alert, Gawain. There's something unpalatable in the air— I'm hoping you'll find it before we do."

The entire Ralts line was made up of empaths. With any luck, it would be able to alert them whenever they approached the vessel's... lingering influence(?) and guide them away from it.

"Shall we?" He said, smiling Fernando's way as he began walking once more. There was still much left to explore.

THE GROUND BECOMES UNSTABLE as tremors stir. it stops fernando in his tracks as he looks at the vast environment still before them. he put out a hand, as if to motion for the other to stop.

“perhaps this is far enough.”

an eye narrows as he tries to spot what he cannot see.

“a preliminary landing is still sufficient. we can be satisfied with this and come back in greater numbers, with more appropriate tools.”

while a pair boast speed and mobility, there is only so much the two of them can prepare for. while exploration is an itch for most, fernando finds no pride in it. to die for curiosity is to die in vain.

There's no fault in the man's logic— Gwyar wasn't itching to risk his life in a cavern after an earthquake, either.

"Yes— let's return." The blonde said, nodding at his Gallade and returning his Rotom to its pokeball before approaching the councilman. "Excuse me."

Placing a hand on the other's shoulder, the blonde nodded at the Gallade.

It teleported them back to the league's checkpoint.
