The owners of Pinche Tacos give forced smiles, nerves clearly on display for Makoto Kurumi when they enter. The place is basically empty which is exceedingly unusual. The little mom and pop shop was the place to be most nights, the food cheap and filling as well as being cheap. It was basically a Sootopolis staple.[break][break]

They would see the reason soon enough, though. In one of the corner booths, in plain view from the door, was none other than Tempest Quinn. Still all decked out in his 'I am going to fucking Murder you' work outfit, covered in dried blood (that clearly was not his), and picking morosely at a whole roasted fist over top of a delicious looking bowl of verde soup. His face was chapped and tear stained but it seemed like he wasn't crying for now, just miserable.[break][break]

The owners, a Paldean couple in their late fifties, gave Makoto a worried look before trying to gently ward them back out of the restaurant with pleading eyes alone.

Cheap, filling, and tasty; was it any surprise that Makoto, being one to religiously save their money, was a regular? The place even let them sometimes bring a few of their pokemon in to have a meal as well, which made it a great way to treat, say, Kama.

But as they came in this night, it became clear that something was amiss. They were used to the diner bustling at this time, but... It was eerily quiet, eerily empty. And the reason for this became quickly apparent, as they spotted Tempest in the corner.

Makoto glances back to the couple, and would try to offer them a reassuring glance of their own. "I'll - I'll handle this. The usual Crunchfest, please?" They'd speak - before moving for the corner booth. Though they knew Tempest could be dangerous, they at least believed that he wouldn't hurt them...

(... Or at least, they hoped as much.)

As they got closer, it became more apparent that he wasn't in his usual positive mood - spying the tear stains - and they'd go to one of the seats at the opposite side of the table. But rather than sit down immediately, they'd glance to him, asking "Would you... Like some company?"

The couple glanced at one another when Makoto Kurumi ordered and then went to Tempest. They would silently agree that it was a shame to lose such a loyal customer....[break][break]

Tempest himself didn't notice Makoto till they spoke. He started some, brown eyes wide when he stared up at the other from his seat. Sniffing, Tempest wiped his face on the back of his hand (it didn't help much) before forcing a wobbly smile and nodding.[break][break]

"M-makoto! Nice to see you! Of course!"[break][break]

He was clearly trying very hard to keep it together. But his eyes trailed away from theirs, avoiding eye contact, as he picked up his spoon and started to play with his food again. Hunching in his shoulders as if to appear smaller, Tempest looked torn between embarrassed and relieved.[break][break]

The couple brought Makoto's food, a double serving on the house, and skittered away quickly before Tempest spoke again.[break][break]

"... sorry... um... you have to see me like this..."[break][break]

Tempest still didn't look at them. His face was a deep red in his cheeks.

With Temp's confirmation, Makoto would sit down across from him - willing to simply provide some peaceful comfort. Partly because they weren't immediately sure about how to broach the topic of whatever had made him so upset - and partly because they themself felt like it'd be something they'd want from a friend, when they were upset.

But as he finally spoke, Makoto gently shook their head. "It's okay," they responded after a moment to register. "It's, uhm... It's not like we're sunshine and rainbows 24-7." Noone was. Even if they felt awkward as far as how to comfort Temp went, they didn't fault him for it.

As the food arrived, Makoto took the time to have a bite of their own. Though, with the two of them now speaking... They'd soon swallow it down, to broach the topic and ask "Did something happen?" It must have been big, to have the normally oh-so-sunny Tempest upset like this.

"Yeah... I guess not." Tempest glanced back up at Makoto Kurumi shyly. Another sniffle left him, which he quickly tried to hide behind his hand. Dropping the spoon in the bowl, he let out a staccato breath.[break][break]

"I... I got into a big fight with Cil. We haven't fought like that since before we got married." Tempest lets it out in a whisper. He blinks back more tears, just thinking of Cillian Quinn bringing a fresh wave to his eyes.[break][break]

Plucking a napkin from the holder, Tempest delicately dabs it on his eyes before blowing his nose loudly. There is another loud sniff, Tempest practically leaning and collapsing onto the table.[break][break]

"I don't even understand what happened. We were talking and then suddenly we just were at each other's throats."

Ah... Yeah, that sounded like something that'd put a damper on even the usually sunny Tempest's mood - even if Makoto themself didn't have much of a perspective on married relationships. All the same, their expression was sympathetic, as they listened to him speak.

The way he puts it - that they were just talking at first - made it sound like it came out of nowhere to Makoto. That things had started pretty innocently. Reaching out to carefully nudge the bowl of soup, so that Tempest could properly lean on the table without knocking into it, they'd think for a second...

... Before asking "What were you, uhm, talking about?" Maybe this would be a safe place to start, in figuring things out..?
