"I contemplated just killing you outright. If I'm honest, I even thought about just taking this entire restaurant off the face of the Earth just to be sure, but—" He shakes his head almost as if he's talking to himself, and not Theo.

"—I'm not a monster."

Fingers tap idly against his bicep, eyes narrowing in thought.

"I wanted to talk to you. Pick your brain. Try to understand. You seem the more pragmatic of the lot." But that was like saying calling out one cannibal in an entire group and congratulating it for eating less human flesh than the others—it felt hollow at best.
