Another challenger, who also happens to be an Elite Four member, came the day after Kyle. Mateo Martinez, the ~~Self-Proclaimed~~ Dragon King. Balder had faced him a while ago, in a fun battle near a ranch, but had barely interacted with the man ever since. So getting his challenge now, as soon as his gym was opened? It was an interesting twist of fate to say the least.[break][break]

Compared to Kyle's challenge, Mateo's challenge would have some... differences. No crowds would be watching them, and there were no swarms of bird pokemons equipped with cameras or anything, except a Pidgeot that was roosted Nearby, with a single camera to carefully record the fight. Instead, a single brunette awaited the challenger at the gates. As she saw the man approach, the lady began to clumsily run to him, before giving Mateo an earpiece and a tablet, before heading back to the Spire.[break][break]

If the challenger were to put the earpiece on, he would hear the words "Connection Established". Not long after receiving the tablet, the screen would light up, showing Balder, topless and without all the fancy makeup he had the day before. A smile on his face, he began to talk. "Hey there, champ in the making. I'm actually surprised to see you here, but I'm glad you came. First, congrats on that Elite Four position man, I know you got the strength to pull through."[break][break]

"Now, just before you start asking question, while I can see you, the earpiece you have doesn't carry over your voice. That's only to be fair, so that I don't listen to the orders you give to your pokemon and try to affect the way your challenge will happen. But I'll be watching your challenge, and record it too of course. Now, enough chit chat from me. I'm sure you're eager to see what I got prepared for you. Step right up, your opponent is heading your way as we speak."[break][break]

The screen of the tablet went blank, meaning the end of the message. From a quick glance over the field, Mateo could notice that the ground, which was filled with holes yesterday, had been patched up and looked like any normal field. It almost seemed too tranquil to be the zone of the first challenge. That was, until the ground started to rumble, signaling something approaching. What could be approaching the challenger?[break][break]

OOC:This is simply the introduction step. The challenge will be revealed on the next post. Final Battle format will be an Horde Battle (5 pokemon vs 1). Challenger will be allowed to use 3 pokemon of his team for that fight and can switch at any time.[break][break]

to think he'd be a gym leader, it caught mateo by surprise. with a smile, he was even more excited. upon tapping at the earpiece, he said, "so he can't hear me, huh? alright then." the dragon master was caught by surprise when he felt a sudden rumble. something was coming among the many holes.

jumping back, he'd release three pokemon from their capsules: altaria, sceptile, and dragonite. the aces were out. skidding back from the battle. the match started. mateo, with an order, shouted, "be on guard!" they trio readied themselves for what was to come.

Mateo was definitely ready for battle. Good. Having 3 of his pokemons out proved he was cautious, even though he was also revealing half of his team in doing so. But knowing the pokemons doesn't necessarilly determine the winner of the battle. At least, with the lineup he had, Mateo had a good coverage on any types of pokemon he could encounter. But would he be able to win nonetheless?[break][break]

As the ground kept on rumbling, a totem began to rise up from the ground. Located on the left of the door, the totem seemed to be made of clay and rocks, formed together to give a rough result. Nonetheless, it was easy to determine the markings upon it. Claws extended upon either side, a head staring at the ground with whiskers on either side of its muzzle. Black and dark brown paintings served to create some markings and accentuate the looks of the creature represented: a mole.[break][break]

Following the reveal of the totem, the tremors stopped... Until it resumed a few seconds later, stronger then ever. Suddenly, the ground erupted a few feets in front of Mateo and his team. Rocks exploding everywhere, a creature emerged from the rain of soil and dust: Excadrill. About twice as big as the rest of his species, his markings in a bright red hue and his skin in a darker shade of brown, the creature stared down his opponents for today.[break][break]

Feeling like this would be a tough fight, the pokemon decided it was time to call for backup! The mole began to emit a deafening screech, hoping to attract a pokemon to help him. Following the roar, Simon the Excadrill began to summon the elements, rising up a Sand Storm upon the battlefield, allowing him to hide in the sands and prepare his assault upon his master's opponent. Maybe with the stat boost that the totem provided (Speed + Attack up), the creature would make short work of his enemies?[break][break]

the GROUND shook for the group. mateo knelt, holding himself in place, as DIRT stained his hands. it wasn't until ROCKS sprayed about as an EXCADRILL emerged from the EARTH with its STEEL like sharpened claws. to mateo's surprise, he didn't expect big guns so soon.

the creature, then, summoned, not only an ally, but a SANDSTORM. though, simultaneously, in that moment altaria's ability became active: CLOUD NINE. the sandstorm that began to whip up would come to subside at that exact moment. "dragonite, move out! sceptile, follow! FOCUS BLAST! altaria, cover with MIRROR MOVE!" dragonite's clasped his hands together, in between them a sphere of energy charged.

sceptile, following dragonite, would come to charge a sphere of energy, through MIMIC, in between the palm of its hands. the duo would send their spheres toward the excadrill soon after; dragonite fired first, whereas sceptile followed behind in case the excadrill tried to dodge by maneuvering to another side. though, had it instead chosen to borough underground and dodge the first sphere. sceptile would jump into the air in order to send the sphere of energy into the hole it attempted to borough in and use as coverage. of course, there were just mere attempts and possible occurrences. nothing was set in stone.

whereas, for altaria, the bisharp--attempting to lunge forward--would come to be met with a swift FOCUS BLAST that emerged from the altaria's maw. sending it flying back during its attempt to utilize metal claw upon the excadrill's opponents.

note: mirror move, focus blast, and mimic were used. two focus blast were sent at excadrill, one at bisharp sending it flying back. let me know if there's anything i can fix! i don't know if 250 was the max or minimum. :sob:

His evil plan had been all set. With this sandstorm, and an ally by his side, no one could oppose him! Now, he just needed to prepare his finisher move while the Bisharp worked her magic for a distraction. With her dazzling blades, maybe we would keep them occupied long enough, or even defeat one of them. That would be the ideal case. Now, time for Simon to start spin-... huh?[break][break]

Did the storm just clear away instantly? Where did the sand go? And his cover? The bisharp lady seemed just as confused as he was too. By what trickery did this trio succeed in getting rid of this weather change so easily?! As Simon kept recovering from the shock of seeing his attack gone, he noticed that the opponent's team was firing their attacks at them.[break][break]

Two golden spheres left the hands of the Dragonite and the Sceptile. While the giant mole was able to dodge the first one by a hair, the second one struck home, raising a cloud of dust. As for the Bisharp, she tried to lunge towards Altaria, preparing to attack, but she was met with a point-blank focus blast too. Was this battle already over? As the dust settled, finally the state of the totem pokemon and his ally were revealed[break][break]

His arms crossed, bruises visible over his body, the Excadrill stared at the enemy. Beside him, a wounded Bisharp glared daggers at the Altaria. They were still in the fight, albeit wounded. And it was time to retaliate. The two of them began with Sword Dance, powering themselves up for the next assault. The Bisharp suddenly began to run towards the Altaria, wanting revenge for that Focus Blast. As a dark Aura surrounded her right arm, she raised her hand, ready to bring down a Night Slash upon the swan dragon.[break][break]

Simon, faced with two opponents, decided to consider his options a little bit more. Charging blindly would be too risky, yet it was also the most efficient possibility, as there were no covers to bait them in. Then the best move to choose... would be his signature move. The mole began to run towards his opponents. Doing so, he brought his hands forward and aligned them with the stop of his head, forming a perfect drill. He then lunged forward and began spinning rapidly on himself, triggering the move Drill Run, targetting the Dragonight by doing so.[break][break]

COTTON GUARD was used the moment bisharp brought down blackened hands sharpened by the night upon altaria. a flurry of cottons were created throughout altaria's body, causing the bisharp's sharpened blades to be pushed back from the many cottons spawning. a shiny, pink light was made within the sheets of cotton that hid the altaria's body, but what was that light? "hit'em with MOONBLAST!" it was moonblast. had the stumbled bisharp decided not to move, it would come to be met with a ray of light expelled from the altaria's maw.

it went without saying, but sceptile was ready to create a defensive barrier to protect dragonite. but, dragonite, ran straight ahead and into the drill run. surprising both sceptile and mateo. allowing it to pierce his stomach while, simultaneously, holding onto the rotating excadrill. the dragonite was greatly force to skid back, but it was because of MULTISCALE that dragonite was able to take the blunt force head on. holding onto the excadrill so that it wouldn't be capable of escaping with all its might.

"ooh! smart! sceptile, follow up with LEAF BLADE!" on command, as he held the rotating excadrill in place. dragonite would not allow the ground-type to break its rotational spin, withstanding the pain from it as it suffered hand burns. sceptile, then, would come to deliver the finishing blow upon the distracted excadrill with a large sickle extending from his arm. slashing the excadrill's body from the side.

This had been an horrible idea. The Bisharp, with her blade of darkness, thought she could've caught the Altaria defenseless and deal a good amount of damage. But a shield of cotton? The swan dragon had literally puffed up and that was enough to stop the blade from reaching the pokemon's body and deal massive damage. Plus, the counterattack from the creature... A massive ray of light, enough to blind the Bisharp...[break][break]

As the attack ended, a motionless Bisharp fell on the ground. The point-Blank moonblast counter had gotten reason of her and she had no energy to continue the battle nor stay conscious. In her last awake seconds, she glanced at the Excadrill, still doing its best against the two opponents, and couldn't help but hope that he would succeed against either of his opponents.[break][break]

As for Simon, things didn't seem to be going well. He never expected the Dragonite to actually block him with his own body and to stop the rotations by pure strength. That dragon held tremendous power, that's for sure. But it would take more then that to stop the drill of justice. But their defense didn't end there. As the Dragonite was absorbing the shock of the Drill Run, the Sceptile came charging with a Leaf Blade ready. Unable to free himself from the hold of the dragon, the blade of grass struck, sending the mole flying.[break][break]

This had struck home, and damaged the pokemon greatly. Nonetheless, the first guardian stood up, mustering as much power as he could to remain standing. Simon's eyes scanned the battlefield and stopped on the immobile Bisharp, laying down on the ground. Even the edgiest lady could not withstand the assault of the dragons... It was back to 1 versus 3 now. Yet... Simon wouldn't let things end like this. Mustering the last of his strength, he lifted his right arm, pointing towards the sky.[break][break]

One final strike. That's all that was crossing the Excadrill's mind. The light of the sun reflected on the claws of the pokemon as they seemed to cover themselves with another layer of metal. As the metal layer finished covering his right hand, the Excadrill brought it back, charging his thrust. And then, he began to sprint towards the Sceptile, ready to unleash Metal Claw as he got close.

a pokeball was tossed at the bisahrp. an attempted CAPTURE was made. and now the excadrill was coming. as he charged toward sceptile, dragonite and altaria stood back. sceptile, clasping his palms together, would begin to charge a LEAF STORM. as excadrill drew near, it was at the last minute that the leaf storm would come to be expelled from the sceptile's palms once the excadrill recklessly closed in. drowning the ground-type in a surging funnel.

A point blank leaf storm. AKA how to make sure that the opponent can't dodge the attack. To finish someone, it was definitely the best way to proceed. A tornado of leaf surrounded the mole, stopping him dead in his tracks. Yet, just before the attack struck him, it seemed like a smile had drew itself on his face. With a soft whisper, he let out a simple sound escape from his lips, as if complimenting the team and saying "Nicely done", in a pokemon's language.[break][break]

As the storm subsided, the Excadrill fell to the ground, utterly defeated. As the battle ended, the young lady who had brought the pad and earbud to Mateo appeared once more, followed by two of her friends. As the other ladies took care of the pokemons that were defeated, the main lady beckoned to the trainer. At the same time, a voice surged from the earbud.[break][break]

"Nicely done Mateo. I've rarely seen Simon get overwhelmed so much. Plus, the teamwork that your pokemon has shown was exquisite. I'm eager to see what you'll be doing next. Now, please follow Katrina to the next location. I'll explain your next trial there." If the challenger agreed to this, he should then follow the lady, who guides him into the castle.[break][break]

As they enter the castle and dive deeper inside it, the duo and the challenger's pokemon would end up in front of 4 doors, depicting the 4 guardians of Alola: Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Tapu Fini and Tapu Bulu. At this moment, Balder's voice flared up once more. "Now then. To reach the second challenge, you need to choose one of the 4 doors. Since I know you like having some challenge, I prepared something special behind the door of Tapu Bulu. Yet, that is up to you. If you want to face a hard challenge, choose it. But if you wish to live the regular experience, then I suggest picking one of the other 3 doors." What will you do, challenger?

once the battle was done, he'd return the trio to their balls. allowing them a small time to rest. following the guide. mateo listened as balder spoke to him. "a special challenge?" he repeated. talk about exciting, he was getting revved up.

So the man had selected the hardest room out of all 4. As expected from Mateo. That also meant that all the preparations would not be wasted. As the challenger declared which door he had selected, the door of Tapu Bulu slide open, allowing entrance to the member of the Elite Four. Behind the door was a long corridor, barely lit by the torches on the walls.[break][break]

Following the tunnel, the man would arrive in a long and wide room covered with multiple torches, pits, flame pillars etc. At the end of the room, before the great gate that would grant access to the next challenge, stood 3 pokemons alongside their totems: Blaziken and the Rooster totem, Heatmor and the AntEater totem, and Braixen beside the Fox totem.[break][break]

As the challenger entered the room, the 3 pokemons moved from their current position, moving to spots where they Not be hit by any other pokemons. All of them focused their flames at specific locations, making the dungeon even harder. And without being able to defeat the other pokemons, Mateo may very well be unable to continue further. Only time and luck will tell.

OOC:Challenge 2: No wild pokemons. Flying doesn't prevent you from the rolls. This one will be different from usual. You have 3 requirements: 1. Post of minimum 300 words where you and your team avoid all the flaming attacks and obstacles. 2. Your post must include 5 terms related to fire. 3. This is what's special. "oooh!" fire swarmed all throughout his next obstacle course. mateo wasn't aware that such an event would take place, but luckily he brought just the right pokemon for this moment. "i knew you'd be useful, here boy!" he'd call out KYLE THE ARCANINE. a pokemon that was gifted to him a long time ago.

the FIRE dog would come to flop atop of mateo. his SUNNY personality was a breath of fresher from the actual kyle. arcanine, then, proceeded to lick the dragon tamer's face; his jovial and bright personality caused mateo to laugh innocently. the arcanine was like a RAY OF SUNSHINE. his body radiated a warm HEAT that revealed his FIERY nature to be full of love. it was rare he and mateo could spend anytime together, so he'd cherish any moment that they'd have when it could. "alright, FLAME dog. i'm gonna need to use BLAZING energy of yours for a bit, mind if i ride you?" kyle had no qualms, thus allowing mateo to jump upon the pokemon's back.

and with a kick to his side and a confidant grin, mateo would order the arcanine to take off. with FLASH FIRE taking effect, it would assist in protecting mateo from the intense heat that was thrown onto the obstacle course. arcanine felt free as he was given enough room to pounce and trail blaze through with EXTREME SPEED. this was nothing to him or his trainer, the arcaine was grateful for this opportunity to 'play'.

without missing a step, they'd come to land safely on the other side without a hitch. mateo, jumping off, began massage to the arcanine's head. rewarding him with a gentle pat. "thanks for the assist, you were movin' like a freaking FLARE out there."

As the challenger literally blazed through the challenge, his partner's resistance and ability against fire supporting him, the Blaziken couldn't help but applaud the two who braved such heat. As the Arcanine landed near the exit, the 3 fire pokemons escaped quickly, heading back to their trainer at the top of the tower.[break][break]

The doors opened before Mateo and Arcanine, revealing another tunnel lit by small torches on the wall. Were the challenger to follow the path until the end, he would show up in an open square, where the central tower stood. With a glance, the man could notice there were 3 more exits like the one he came from, most likely linked to the other Tapu doors that Mateo had encountered previously.[break][break]

In the middle of the grass-covered squad, the gigantic tower stood, a spiraling staircase going around it. While climbing was indeed an option, there didn't seem to be anything to hold on to and would make the climb somewhat dangerous, especially since this was potentially the location for the third challenge! Would the challenger risk himself in this climb where nothing was certain? If he were to move forward, he would start to hear a buzzing move, but be unable to identify where it comes from![break][break]
