Ian is used to being entertained by investors who are trying to win better tax brackets, or preferential zoning. Usually, they're trying to impress him with fancy dinners and Pokemon performances. This is the first time that he's ever been invited to the Safari Zone.

"So when do we start shooting?" Ian asks rather loudly from the back of the all-terrain truck. The crowd breaks out in guffaws, and he knows that he's with the right crowd.

"Patience, Mister Castilla-Somerville." The man is old, balding, and looks like he would know all about patience. "You would surely prefer to catch a single Dragonair over a dozen Magikarp."

Ian thinks that people who wait end up catching nothing at all. "I think this zone is alright. Pull over." He doesn't need Pokeblocks or fancy maps. He just needs to get in there. He stomps past the Doduo and the Gloom, both of which are quickly spooked by his approach. He's not interested in those. He's interested in the beasts that would stand their ground against him.

This ain't a petting zoo.

This is the SAFARI ZONE. A place where men prove themselves by catching the baddest, meanest... grass snake? She's from Unova, which is a big plus. She's also doesn't come up to Ian's knee, which is a massive minus.

The Snivy attempts to slam into Ian's knees. Unfortunately, she was two feet tall. One good kick from Ian sends her flying. She plops into a pile of mud. She starts... crying?

Okay, maybe this is a petting zoo.

"Stop crying!" Ian yells at the Snivy. Snivy cries harder. Arceus, so that's how it's gonna be, huh? Ignoring his audience behind him, Ian slams the Safari Ball straight on her nose.

A voice calls out from the back. "This is no challenge for you, Mr. Castilla-Somerville. We should go hunt for real prey."

That is, until a dozen Audino climbed out of the tall grass to ambush the party. They are completely overwhelmed by sheer numbers. Audino climb into the truck, squishing the humans into the sides. It's every man for himself, as they call on their rare Pokemon to protect them.

Ian has no patience for a squabble. He lets a Gengar out of his ball, and the Gengar puts the largest Audino to sleep with his Hypnosis. He slams a Pokeball on her head.
