[attr="class","knoxpost"]they have an audience, though he does not realize it. lena is grateful as he allows her some rest. when she disappears in a flash of red light, he suddenly realizes how very alone he is. and he shudders, picks at the cracked skin of his knuckles.
his lips are chapped, too. it's been hard to stay hydrated.
he kneels down and slings his pack from his bag, withdraws a coat that might fit a toddler. and then he drops captain's ball. the pikachu shivers as soon as she hits the ground and complains loudly. he half-smiled, scratches her behind her ears, and helps shrug her into her wool coat.
she pokes her head through, nose twitching fervently. then she clambers up the front of his shirt and knox turns, blinking as a mudkip shyly approaches them. her paws quiver with every step she takes.
captain bounds down towards her and she pauses, takes a couple of hasty steps back. but captain, ever brazen, approaches her with a friendly wag of her tail. she sidles up next to the mudkip and nuzzles close.
"i guess you weren't expecting it to get cold so soon," he says. he grabs another safari ball and approaches the mudkip. "come with us? captain and i will take care of you." captain's ears twitch and she relays knox's message.
the mudkip nestles closer and murmurs a soft cry; her breath curls in front of her. knox grins and taps the ball against the fin on her head.
