Walking through the Safari Zone as the snow gently fell from above reminded him greatly of past excursions in Galar's Wild Area. In truth, aside from the promise of rare and competitively viable Pokémon, Remiel had come here primarily to recapture some of the magic from those days. Though he didn't admit it, he truly missed his home region. Then again, he supposed he didn't exactly have anyone to admit that to. Moving thousands of miles away from everyone you knew and dedicating yourself to one goal was one hell of a way to end up alone. Who knew?

But he wasn't truly alone.


Floating to his left was the almost constant presence of his Sinistea companion, Earl Grey. A part of him wondered whether it only stuck around to discreetly sap him of his life force, as was rumored by many a trainer with a Sinistea. But, if that were true, he didn't feel any worse for it after all this time. Furthermore, the extensive and well-funded training it had received at Hammerlocke University (prior to being gifted to him by its dean) reassured him from his concerns. Still, every once in a while he'd quietly shift his blue-grey eyed gaze towards Earl. The ghost would then respond by tilting itself backwards ever so slightly, as though walking beside Remiel were an invisible man taking a sip from his teacup.

"Charmed," The young man responded, throwing the tail end of his knitted black scarf over his shoulder. "Now let's discover what constitutes as rare in the Hoenn region, shall we?" He added, scanning the pines for any Pokémon.

If it hadn't been for its distinct red leaves, Remiel might have looked it over, subconsciously believing that it was just another pine growing out from the entrenched snow. As things were, however, the young man froze in place and stared at it while it gently floated down from a small hill in the forest. He'd seen Phantump before in his native region... but never one that looked like this. The wooden helmet that it wore almost appeared petrified... and its eyes, ever distant and haunting, glowed a chilly blue.

Earl Grey perched himself on Remy's shoulder, almost as if prompting him to act on the situation or flee. Successfully drawn out of his stupor, Remiel swiftly (but quietly) crouched down before effortlessly grabbing one of the Safari Balls clipped to his belt. He balanced his glasses on his nose. "Earl. Shadow Ball." He said in a half-whisper as he hid behind a tree, watching as the little teacup followed the command without hesitation.

There was a ghostly bang, followed by a shockwave of ephemeral and shadowy energy. Within the timeframe of a moment, Remiel emerged out from behind the tree, cocked his arm backwards, narrowed his eyes on the target, and made his throw. It landed without fail. All there was to do next was wait.

The abrupt and violent ambush had resulted in successful capture. Remiel typically preferred to do things a little more... properly. Yet something about this Phantump led him to believe it was rare, even by Hoenn's standards. Of course, 'rare' didn't always amount to powerful or even particularly useful. But it certainly warranted further study. And that was something Remiel simply couldn't risk to lose. He bent down and picked up the ball, clipping it to his belt. A proper meeting would between himself and the Phantump would be arranged later. For now, the rest of the Safari Zone awaited.

There was a river that ran alongside the mountain trail, roaring as it tore through the territory and over fallen pines. Remiel didn't think this was the sort of place one could expect to find a Starmie, but out one came. It flew out from the water in a rapid twirl, unleashing a horde of bubbles into the air before quickly descending. Even if he'd cared, there had hardly been a moment for Remiel to withdraw an empty Safari Ball and chuck it. Instead, he took the moment for what it was worth and continued further down the trail. Both he and Earl Grey seemed wholly uninterested. Starmie had never ranked quite as high as other water type Pokémon at the university.

It wasn't long before the trail lead to a snowy clearing in the middle of the forest. As Remiel trudged through it, wishing he could just effortlessly float above it all as his Sinistea did, he froze and swiveled his head in both directions when he heard a deafening crack. A pine tree had seemingly snapped in two, crashing down into the clearing only meters away from him. He shielded his face with his arms and staggered backwards.

Snow was kicked up in a cloud of white when the large tree made contact with the ground. Chunks of soil, pine leaves, and branches rained down from the sky. Remiel was protected from all of it by a protective barrier Earl Grey had set up in an instant. When everything settled, the barrier fell and they watched as a figure clambered out from the leaves of the fallen pine. A Chespin. They could make interesting contenders.

It immediately took notice of the witnesses, strangely slapping its belly as it growled and hopped off the tree. "It's coming in for an attack. Prepare, then Sucker Punch." Remiel commanded, receiving a slight tip of the cup from the Pokémon in question. Predictably, the Chespin charged forward with a Take Down that would have been rendered ineffective anyway. Just before it reached the trainer, however, the Sinistea swiftly manifested a ghostly hand and arm that punched it away. By the time it crashed into the snow, Remiel already had an empty Safari Ball in hand. And he promptly cast it.

After successfully capturing the rambunctious Chespin, Remiel clipped the new Pokémon to his belt and walked around the fallen pine to continue his journey. There was no longer a trail going forward, however. Instead, the clearing opened up in a vast wilderness with intermittent trees and rock formations. Far in the distance, there was what appeared to be a radio tower of some sort. Remiel followed this landmark as he trudged forwards through the snow. But it wasn't long before another Pokémon appeared. It sauntered out, then their eyes met.

They froze.


This one didn't appear aggressive at all. In fact, there was a curious gleam in its eyes. It was an Alolan Vulpix... no doubt a rare sight in Hoenn. Considering the state of the weather, however, the blue-grey eyed man figured it was a reasonable occurrence. Carefully and slowly, he crouched down. Holding a single hand up, he motioned for his Sinistea to stand back. Then, slowly withdrawing his last Safari Ball from his belt, he held it forwards towards the Pokémon. It stared at him for a moment... then cautiously closed the distance between itself and the stranger. Just as it began to sniff at the Pokéball, Remiel gently pushed it forward. It clicked open when the button hit the creature's nose, then promptly devoured her in a flash of red light. He dropped the ball and backed away.
