Hideo rushed over to CIAN MAHER and Eva Morales , Uxie Levitating right next to him. That Landorus already proved a tough fight last time they were here - they had to get on it as soon as possible.

So while Eva had her Mega Gengar focus on tying down the Landorus, Uxie would focus more on doing some damage: it fired forth a beam of Mystical Power at the Landorus, striking the Pokemon square-on.

Though a single attack was far from enough to take it down - locked down it may be, it was still more than capable of fighting back.

The unfortunate part about getting involved part-way through: Hideo didn't have nearly enough information to work with. "I really don't know. I'd have to touch people's amulets to hear letters, and by the time I'd met more than a couple people that had'em, we'd met up in a group. That's when the trio showed up to us…or at least, images of them?"

A small sigh escaped from Uxie's mouth, the pixie floating up from Hideo's lap. It floated over to Illeana's desk, pointing towards her pad - then to one of her pens.

It wanted to use them - even just a single sheet and pen could work.

A sigh came out of Hideo's lips this time. "I don't like having to wait," he said, "but I hear Latios isn't an easy Pokemon to pin down either." He was already putting a lot of free time into looking for Azelf - looking for another would run himself into the ground. "Maps'll probably have to do."

It was something to work with.

As they talked, Uxie would get to writing - one letter at a time, writing them out as it held on to the pen with its hands.

Ah, yes.

This person was an Inquisitor, one who was given the authority to investigate whatever threats they were called to seek - and deal with them as they saw fit.

And they were more than capable of executing their judgment.

Their goal was simple: find The Monster In The Woods, and end its threat once and for all, so that these woods would be safe for people to enter.

But the first trial they'd face was a mundane one: the woods was a vast, unexplored expanse of trees and plant life. There was no clear path to where they should go to find the Monster, no guide to show them the way. Locating their quarry would take some good amount of effort, perhaps more than the average hunter was capable of.

Though such effort was within the Inquisitor's means…

Behind the Looking Glass

It wasn't the first time someone went up and hugged him in this dream. And just like the last time, he didn't resist; he would've done the same, if he knew the way over.

"I'm alright," he answered. "I'm here like everyone else…they put me in the Weakling Ward."

There was a bitterness to his voice - he did not appreciate being considered weak. He wouldn't appreciate being called dumb or ugly either, but weak just stung harder.

He'd left home to prove he wasn't weak.

"Dunno where Uxie is…I dunno if it got caught like the rest of my Pokemon did. It wasn't with me when I got grabbed."

But who knew what that pixie was up to half the time.

He looked towards where he heard Melody banging on glass. He didn't know exactly what Pokemon were behind it - but they were clearly important to her.

And he'd yet to find any of his own.

(Unbeknownst to him, two were behind the display as well - his small, shiny Ribombee and his Joltik).

Words of Encouragement

The Little Prince shook his head as the Explorer asked their final question. "Dunno what his name was. I tried asking, but he said it didn't matter, so he didn't give it. Just told me that he was gonna stay there 'til the end of time or something. Didn't even want me visiting his world - only let me look at it."

It would seem that the Explorer may find some resistance at the planet they were told of - but only some.

With that, the Explorer made their exit. The Little Prince waved to them one more time - perhaps the last time.

"It was nice talking to you! I hope we can one day meet again!"

Or perhaps not. There was an infinite number of stars to explore - perhaps an innumerable number of Little Princes, on their little planets with their little roses.

But it's the time the Explorer spent with this Little Prince that made them different.

It would seem that the Little Prince didn't specify how far the planet was; even with their spaceship fully-charged, at maximum speed, it would take some time for them to reach it. Not much to do now but wait it out, unless something came to them.

Which it did.

A notification from the Explorer's Spaceship - they'd received a message from their Commander. A pre-recorded message - a proper call was out of the question at this speed and distance. It was a miracle the message even reached them at all.

"I pray this message finds you well, Explorer. It can be lonely in the depths of space, and it's driven many to madness. Your duty is important to us, both as a people and as a civilization."

"I was asked to relay this message to you."

There would be a brief moment before the message began. It was from someone the Explorer knew, and whether it was a mere voice message or a video message, they had some encouraging words for them.

Even within that alien dream, there was some familiarity to be found; John Sullivan , Eris Halla , and Melody Miro were there. None were within his ward, but they were somewhere here. Just getting the chance to talk to each other, even in mutual misery, brought some comfort in this hell. His Pokemon may have been within strange displays, asleep, but they were there, alive.

And one other.

The subject of so many months of searching, the one who he hadn't encountered in over a year.

Azelf was here.

He didn't have the time to ask anything of Azelf on that first night, but he'd found resolve in all this: even if he couldn't find some hole

And that bit of hope, that bit of willpower, was more than enough to get him through the drudgery of prison life. He had something to look forward to, something more tangible than "getting out".

Once again, he took solace in his dreams. Those would get him by, just as they did before he left home.

But that didn't mean he was neglectful to his waking life; he had to eat his mochi, laugh when he was forced to, do his work, avoid getting his ass kicked in the pit. He'd try to make sure his cellmate, Genevieve Cromwell , was hanging in there. And he certainly tried to keep a (sightless) eye on Lucia Aldrete - who he'd learned was a fan of his.

Once it was time to sleep, he was ready to dive back into that dream. He'd find Eris first (usually by being found first - it wasn't easy for him to find people) before making his way to Azelf. Even if it didn't get them any progress, even if Azelf never responded to them, he'd always make sure to ask Azelf one thing.

"I'm doing alright." He didn't know how well Eris was doing, but he knew himself well enough - that he'd managed to avoid harm. For now. "The Pokemon that's in my Ward attacks a lot of people though. Knocked the shards I gathered out of my hands, but that's about it for me."

He'd gotten off lucky, compared to the beatings other people got. But who knew how long that "luck" would last.

"...maybe better I don't put the mask on," he added. "Last thing I want is to get hooked on something that doesn't even work for me." Perhaps the mask truly wouldn't work on him - or it would.

Was the addiction more fearsome - or finding out what he'd learn behind that mask?

He had to find something in the prison routine he could exploit. Something he could hold onto, or some weakness that he could push through. Something to get him out of this place, and find a way to get everyone else out too.

…

But actually doing any of that wouldn't be easy. He didn't have his Beheeyem's eyes to guide him, nor his Lycanroc's strength. He didn't have his Ambipom's dexterity, or his Aggron's durability.

He didn't notice the look that Doug gave him.

He didn't know of the tears dropping on Eris's face.

He didn't resist as Doug pulled him into a hug. It was a small bit of comfort in this hell. He would take it.

"We'll…we'll find a way out of this." They had to.

She blinked, her gaze weakening. "But very well. I have spoken with some of my subjects. The one that were coherent, had quite a bit to say. But all found their given names better than a life without a purpose, lest they become a Beast, destined to bring ruin to this Kingdom and those around them."

"I'm hardly the only one that would leave, given the opportunity. And yet, others have found it a strange comfort, knowing that their only need is to do a single job. Such simplicity can bring peace of mind, when the complexities of life drive one to its own madness."

She let out a sigh, slumping in her chair.

"It's a madness I sorely miss. I would return to it - but one needs a name to leave this realm. Not merely a title given in this realm. That is why I have yet to leave. That is why I desire your name."

Behind the Looking Glass

Still no sign of his Pokemon.

Hideo had no idea where to look around here; the distinct lack of Pokemon walking around, whether wild or accompanying someone, was a blatant sign this was no city he'd been to. OR any city in Hoenn, for that matter.

But he'd already learned it was some kind of Megalopolis. Which didn't make it feel any less wrong to him.

And difficult to navigate.

The sound of someone banging on glass at least gave him an inkling of where to go next. Sounded like they were trying to get someone's attention, maybe someone behind the glass…

Wait a second.

He recognized that voice.

"Melody?!" Hideo called out, making his way over to the voice. He had to walk slowly; with neither a Pokemon nor his cane to guide him, he had to be extra careful not to bump into someone or trip over something. "You're here too? What're you banging on the glass for?"

Reading Through The End

The debris would prove to be of little issue, the Spaceships's Sunsteel Strikes destroying and repelling anything in its path. And with a single use of the ship's Springtide Storm, the Explorer was able to pinpoint a particular of interest, where high levels of emotional energy could be detected.

It was a single strike craft, the smallest among all ships in this graveyard. It was in relatively good condition - its pilot even still resided within the cockpit.

Though no life-signs could be detected.

The ship's terminal was still in good shape - enough that the information within could be downloaded. It would be an easy task, as if it was deliberately set up as such.

What the Explorer would find, was a set of logs from the pilot.

Log 1

The warnings from the Vorcha Empire have proven true; our astrologists have detected something heading towards our star. I had to pull some favors for this info, but they're saying it's a mixture of organic matter and star matter. No other organism possesses such a molecular makeup.

But their analysis says that it's only 300cm tall? I don't know how something so small could be so dense.

And I don't know how, when I look at the night sky, I can see it approaching. The military is scrambling all resources to try and intercept it, before it can devour our star. They've even called me in.

And here I was, ready for retirement. Guess they're pushing that back again.

Log 2

All weapons have proven ineffective. Energy weapons, missiles, even ramming has failed to stop this thing. The only thing that got a reaction out of this monster was our admiral starting up The Cerebral's Perish Drive.

It didn't even have a chance to fully charge before the monster cut a hole through it with a beam of energy. My ship said it was a beam of pure solar energy.

I've lost contact with the rest of the fleet. They're all dead or gone. Either it didn't notice me or it doesn't care. My ship's sensors say the monster is in front of our star now. It hasn't moved since then. I don't know what to do.

And I think I can hear it talking to our star. It sounds angry.

Log 3

Our star is gone.

There's no point looking for survivors now. We focused so much on preparing for the monster that we didn't prepare any backups if we failed. We don't have the means to travel beyond our solar system, and our world is already starting to freeze over.

My ship doesn't have much air remaining. I'll leave my ship's terminal open so whoever finds this can read my messages.

You can't fight this thing. You either need to find a way to convince it to stop, or move solar systems the moment it comes your way. It's clearly going for stars for a reason, but I don't know what it is. Perhaps it'll find what it's looking for, or it'll gorge itself so much that it destroys itself.

Whatever happens, I wish you good fortune.

And at the end of time, let us meet as stars.

If Doug wasn't in the Weak ward, and he wasn't in the Dummy Ward - then that left him in the Ugly Ward. Hideo didn't know if Doug was ugly appearance-wise - he felt like someone would've mentioned it around him if that were the case.

But there was clearly bad blood between Ugly Ward and Dummy Ward; something Hideo'd helped avoid by voting Trust. He didn't resist as Eris pulled him away - not physically anyways.

"We can't blame Doug for what his Ward voted," Hideo said. "Not if he didn't vote for that too. Some people in my ward voted to Forsake, and I bet people from your ward did too."

Always the bad eggs that could ruin things for others, making the whole batch look bad. But at least the good outnumbered the bad here.

Hideo's head turned to Eris when she mentioned what exactly was in the pit, his hand squeezing hers back. "Wait, there were dead bodies in there?" He didn't even feel anything hard in there like bone…

Arceus, that place was fucked.

No wonder it tried to tempt them with what they wanted. "What did it-" He began, before stopping himself; what Doug saw was probably something personal. Best not to push for details on what he saw.

He so desperately wanted it to be true - that the jail had just been a nightmare, that this city was reality, confusing as it could be.

But Eris's response rejected that illusion.

"I…I don't know." He'd be shocked if his Pokemon weren't tearing their fur out trying to find him, but people? "But there's gotta be someone looking for us."

Who it was, he had no way of knowing. But he wouldn't give up hope that there was a way out of there.

And sure enough, a familiar voice called out to them. Another bit of familiarity, and a pillar he could lean on for support. "Doug!" Hideo exclaimed, neither fear nor denial keeping back his joy.

"It's…it's us! It's really us!...what do you mean a brainwashing room? Did you…do you also remember some kind of prison? Where we all got masks and chains?"

Children of the City

One didn't need eyes to tell that this city was nothing like the ruins he'd visited in the Wilds. It was just as lively as Slateport: people walking along the sidewalk, cars driving up and down the street, all the hustle and bustle of citylife reached his ears fine.

And not a single Pokemon could be heard…

"So…we're in a Megalopolan city?" he asked. "Feels…normal. Way too normal." He didn't really know what to expect from a Megalopolis, other than it being future-y.

It was confusing. But it was preferable to the hell he'd been in moments ago. That had to be a cruel nightmare, and this is the reality, right? He couldn't even imagine the alternative at this point. Anything to not be there.

He didn't even want to think about it - but it was hard to, after Eris questioned it.

It took Hideo a moment to answer. "Yeah. I was there." The unpleasant details wormed their way back into his mind. "Had the mask on, and a chain around the neck. They put me in the Weak Ward."

Emphasis on the part that he felt insulted by.

"And…I think I heard you. When I had to clean up mochi off the ground, I think I heard you there. But I didn't hear you in my Ward before that."

He knew he heard her voice. It was one of the few bits of familiarity he found in that place.

He didn't want to let it go.
