Jayden is the third to return, to no one's surprise. He doesn't share the eagerness his fellow admins have, more than content to trail behind fern delaney as his thoughts stray back towards the vision that had been shown to him in that mask.

[break][break] Those TOXIC CHAINS rest comfortably around his neck, mimicking the same BRUISES created by Lulu Flint when she had choked him in the GREAT CHASM.

[break][break] His expression is mild, lost in thought, before focusing suddenly on the appearance of BARNABY FINCH and fern delaney tangled intimately in the cot. For the first time since being transported into this new world, his expression twists with something stronger than apathy.

[break][break] A surge of heat ignites within him, flashing across his face, and then he is striding forward, grasping fern delaney's face away from Admin Bee's toned torso. His touch is gentle, yet intimate, thumbs brushing across the other's cheek in a markedly tender gesture.

[break][break] "Be careful where you rest your face, lyubeemiy," he says simply and then without even glancing at the other, he plops himself down onto the other's lap. Replacing BARNABY FINCH's lap with his own, before placing his partner's face atop of it.

[break][break] For a moment, he faltered. As if howard slayte's dreams had been crafted into a sword, striking into the heart of everything that Jayden held dear. In this state of vulnerability, anything could happen.

[break][break] He stumbled back.

[break][break] The admin blinked blearily at the other as the bunt of the blade careened into his chest. It was not hard enough to even cause a bruise, but it was more of the suddenness of the act that confused him.

[break][break] Suddenly, the world grew cold. Freezingly so. Winds whipped around them, and it was difficult to tell if the powers were coming from Jayden himself or this false version of Remiel Calcifet.

[break][break] He thought back to their fight on the ship, the furious way that Remiel Calcifet had cursed at him. Had that man taken Chien Pao from him? Was it not enough for Remiel Calcifet to betray Rocket — did he need to betray him as well?

[break][break] Suddenly, his expression grew sour. The world went to white.

[break][break] And Jayden sprinted forward, the HATRED of the other admin inducing him, ice crystallized in the ground ahead of him.

[break][break] "You don't deserve it! You can't handle it!"

[break][break] It was hard to tell what exactly was he talking about. Was he talking about Rocket? About Chien Pao? About the manifestation of hatred itself?

[break][break] Either way, the TOXIC CHAINS that had started to wrap around the avatar had gone thread-bare in the cold. It was only a matter of time before they would snap completely.

Why should THEO BECKETT hate him?

[break][break] It seemed like the question of the hour.

[break][break] To jayden cross, who had long come to terms with the fact, it was obvious. He had grown long apart from the young, confused boy he had been when @victoria had barged into his room, demanding answers that he did not have. He had long since separated himself from the trembling leaf that was his childhood when he thought about how one of the strongest men in Kanto Rocket hierarchy wanted to have his head, from nothing apart from the fact of his birthright.

[break][break] But to those like Elisabeth Fiorelli, he supposed, he could not have blamed her for not knowing.

[break][break] She was not like them. Not like him or THEO BECKETT or Cillian Quinn. In fact, she was not even like BARNABY FINCH, who's life in Kalosian Rocket had hardened him too beyond comparison of those in Hoenn.

[break][break] "Ask him," he said instead after a moment's pause. He hesitated on the last syllable, wondering how much of it he was allowed to share and how much he wasn't. He knew that THEO BECKETT was not a man who liked to have his life on display. But surely, THEO BECKETT and Elisabeth Fiorelli were close now, given the fact that both were underbosses.

[break][break] "Ask him for the details," he amended. "But the truth of it is - my father did something unspeakable to him. Like he has to many others." Like he had to Chu-e Choi. Like he had to himself. Nikolai Cross' reign of terror knew no bounds, a fact that Elisabeth Fiorelli should be able to learn even after a brief glimpse at Rocket's records.

[break][break] "And - at one point - he wanted my life forfeit for it."

[break][break] Perhaps he could've said more. Perhaps he should've said more.

[break][break] But then she placed a hand on his shoulder and he flinched; not because of her touch, but because it was a touch and he was a child who had not been raised to accept such kindness.

[break][break] He found himself drowning in the wilderness that was her frenzied gaze.

[break][break] 'Weaken me?'

[break][break] He wanted to ask, desperately, what she meant. How much more could this Beast weaken him in ways that he would not be prepared to deal with already? But the words died in his throat when he looked at her verdant green gaze, lost in the thorny vines of it all — it reminded him too much of his mother.

[break][break] "i am afraid," a voice calls to him, trembling, and he turns to see the eyes of freya morningstar. normally, in other condition, he would have felt HATRED lance through him at being so close to someone tied to the LEAGUE. but the emptiness in his heart is like a yawning chasm, growing wider and wider with each passing moment, while they are trapped in this memory together.

[break][break] "don't be," he says back, squeezing her hand. a trickle of feeling passes through him, remembering how fern delaney had come to him in the dead of the night on the day before meteno 99943 had struck. the uncertainty, the relentless dread, the fear of the unknown. blue eyes flicker to his other tether - to fern delaney at his other side - and then across the room at the void of maskless faces.

[break][break] some of which he recognizes, and some of which he doesn't. he feels suddenly just like he had in that forgotten memory, king of a town that had once been his, in front of a hundred people that he only half-knew.

[break][break] he blinks his eyes open and he stands on a mantle that feels... both foreign and strikingly unfamiliar. his throat closes as he sees the sea of bodies that kneel before him, reminded immediately of DIONYSUS and the dream that resulted into astlik's clinging shadows. but in his hands are no shadowed weapons, no frozen limbs.

[break][break] no, in his hand he holds a specter of power, one lanced with those unmistakable TOXIC CHAINS, swathing around a glimmering sphere that looks a bulbous pink fruit. in the orb's reflection he can see his own face, clear and free of scars, and the glimmering hue of purple eyes.

[break][break] standing beside him are Cillian Quinn and THEO BECKETT, the latter gently resting a warm hand on his shoulder as the other affectionately tousles his hair. on his opposite flank stands declan walsh, his head tilted towards jayden, the inscrutable gaze of the obfuscator glinting with approval and anticipation.

[break][break] "what shall you do with them? i leave the answer in your hands."

[break][break] and sure enough, as his gaze sweeps over the tumultuous throng of bodies, he discerns the unmistakable figures of many of rocket's betrayers, among them Ashley Shepard and Isaac Merlo. yet, intertwined with those traitorous souls, ensnared in choking TOXIC CHAINS, are the vicious embers of MATIAS SILPH.

[break][break] but it isn't MATIAS SILPH that draws his gaze, nor even PENELOPE LIVY who stands by him.

[break][break] it's the scarlet rivulet of his father's gaze.

[break][break] dmitri volkov. nikolai cross. alive, breathing, yet ensnared in suffocating chains of toxic pink.

As Jayden sat there, listening to the soft, lilting voice of his superior's words as it washed over him, he could not explain the fuzziness in his chest that he felt. It was such a mundane thing, to know these details about Chu-e Choi. They were not any secrets that made him greater than any of Jayden's other bosses. They were not even secrets that Jayden could not have figured out himself, if he looked hard enough in Rocket's database.

[break][break] And yet, these small, mundane words held a power over him as he listened — watched — the other, looking as sweet as the sandwiches that he ate.

[break][break] To know such a thing about Chu-e Choi, the former Beast of Kanto and current Underboss; to know that he was still somehow human. It made his heart beat in a way that he couldn't quite expect.

[break][break] "Kalos?" he found himself asking, as if tugged forward by a string. "What happened in Kalos?"

[break][break] There were many reasons why one could find themselves in the hospital. There were many reasons, and Jayden knew that the history of Chu-e Choi was one littered with all such unsavory stories. After all, his story - his downfall - was not a kind one.

[break][break] And yet, despite knowing, Jayden wanted to hear it anyway.

[break][break] The sudden touch startles him though, and a matching blush dots across his cheeks.
