With Woobat secured Klaus begins to put his headphones back on, but a soft chirruping gives him pause. One one of the frosted branches of a nearby tree he spies a little Rookidee who seems to be watching him with curiosity.

A ball of fuzz crosses Klaus's sight as he trudges through the Safari Zone and a moment later he places it as a Woobat.

"Hey bud," he calls in greeting as the Pokemon hovers nearby, its face skewed up quizzically. "You a fan of Alternative?" As he speaks he pulls off his headphones, allowing the Woobat to listen for a few moments. It's not long before the Pokemon flies closer and seems willing to follow after Klaus.

With a grin, he tosses a Safari Ball and says, "You'll be helpful at the lighthouse."

Tucked neatly away in a corner away from the noise, Klaus nurses a beer in his hand as he idly scrolls through his phone. His gaze glances up occasionally at particularly raucous screams, though otherwise he sits in his own world brooding and uncomfortable.

He can't remember the last time he had a date, or found anyone to blow off steam with.

Well, no time like the present.
[break][break]
Exiting the app on his phone, he exhales moodily as he pauses over his contacts before selecting one of ill-used dating apps that's downloaded instead. Swiping past a sea of faces, he finally lands on someone who's supposedly in the area and pops off a greeting message with, "Wanna get a drink? I'm at Meowth's Mischief on ninth."

Klaus hums softly as his phone buzzes in his hand - he drops his rain-soaked cigarette in an empty coffee tin and caps the lid on it, which he then throws away. With that accomplished he sets about making a pot of coffee on the range; as he does so his phone buzzes multiple times, and he arches his eyebrow when he checks his messages again.

A soft laugh spills from his lips, and a subtle relief spreads through his chest that his... friend? still wants some sort of contact after all this time.

Yeah was nice to see it again. Did a year abroad in Lumiose back in college.

Can't tonight have to work. U can come over if you want but gunna be on the radio all night. Storm is bad here.

Klaus's thumbs hover over his keyboard for a moment as he ponders his next message, and then eventually shrugs and types again.

Trying to ignore the subtle blush creeping over his cheeks, Klaus shoves his phone in his pocket and tends to his coffee instead. Outside the wind screams, and a deep boom of thunder rumbles across the treacherous waves.

Distracted from his own personal suffering of pain, wetness, and embarrassment, Klaus barks out a laugh at Xiura's comment. "Top five percent for sure," he agrees, a certain fondness bleeding into his voice at the compliment - even if said jokingly - of his Pokemon.

The ride turns as comfortable as it's going to get - Mantine skims over the surface of the water, avoiding the larger waves as best it can.

He tilts his head in Xiura's direction when she speaks again, his eyebrows raising visibly at the question. "I - I grew up there," he begins, suddenly uncertain where this conversation is going. "I could probably find you someone. I work at the lighthouse and know most of the ships in the area. Depends on what you need."

The message that follows is, on some level, one Klaus expected, but it's wholly another thing to receive a text in which someone actually typed out 'brah'. He snorts at the messages, taking his time for once to gather his thoughts.

Around him the wind howls, and the deafening sound of the ocean slamming into rocks fills his senses; an odd mix of ozone and salt hangs heavy on the air, made worse by a lightning strike flashing in his peripheral.

Fine. Back from Kalos. How r u?

With his message tapped out and phone shoved back into his pocket for safekeeping, Klaus mumbles a quiet, "Let's go inside," to his Alolan Meowth. Tucking Traute up under his arm and doing his best to angle her away from the sideways rain, Klaus stamps his way inside the shelter of the lighthouse.

He sets the Meowth on the ground and then carefully strips his raincoat and boots to contain the water damage to the doorway, and then pads barefoot towards the small stove inside to start a pot of coffee. As he walks he pulls out his phone again, checking for a reply.

Legs hanging over the edge of the railing of the gallery deck at the top, Klaus sits in the shadow of the lighthouse; angled just right, the rain splattering around mostly misses him in spite of his precarious perch.

Klaus doesn't smoke often, but it combined with the downpour outside strikes an oddly soothing balm for his usually nervous disposition. He pulls his yellow raincoat up further around himself and hums softly, his expression pensive while watching the waves crash into the rocks below.

He isn't sure what possesses him to pull out his phone, or even why exactly he scrolls to the contact that he does. Taking another deep drag of his cigarette Klaus observes the name for some time, the smoke held in his lungs until it burns, before he finally exhales.

A few more taps and he sends his first outgoing message in over a year. It's a single word, and it reads:

Hey.
[break][break]
Klaus glances down to the Alolan Meowth nestled comfortably against his side, the bulk of her body under the hem of his raincoat. Idly he buries his fingers into her blue fur while waiting for an answer.
