A cold wind blows across Jack's exposed arms, abruptly ending the heat of the midday sun that had been beating down on Route 119 only moments ago. Now, roiling clouds of darkness were moving in, enveloping the group of people in a foreboding gloom. A ranger stands nearby, her authoritative voice carrying to the crowd, "Arin is an experienced hiker and should have checked in at Fortree City yesterday, but no one has seem him since he passed another hiker at this location three days ago. This route is well traveled along the main paths but the terrain is rough on either side and the stream here is very swift-moving due to the steep slope." She pauses a moment as the low roll of far off thunder fills the air before continuing, "With the forecasted storm, stream conditions are expected to worsen rapidly. For safety reasons, we will end the search at sundown tonight and resume in the morning if needed. All searchers must stay in a group of at least two. Both the League and Arin's family thank you for being here. Please return by sundown."

"Well boy, looks like we need to find a partner for this one," Jack says to the boltund sitting at his feet. Watt's tail wags back and forth, though the pokemon's posture is tense. Jack and Watts watched Arin Vanderpool's cross-country races on television as they grew up, though Jack is unsure if the pokemon really understood who they were looking for or is just picking up on the anxiety threading through the search party.

As Jack scans the would-be rescuers, large drops of rain begin to fall with heavy splashes.

Jack takes another long pull of mead to hide a rush of blood to his cheeks at the mention of his abs, though he continues to listen to Aurelie's story as he drinks. Nodding along, his appreciation for the woman grows as she mentions the Kantonese katanas and the corners of his mouth turn up in a knowing grin.

"Ah, I guess it makes sense that you've got such an eye for weaponry with a blacksmith for a father," he says with admiration, adding a quick glance to Harpe to make sure the pokemon wasn't trying to snatch up another child. He still didn't know if Harpe tried to grab others out of some instinctual drive or because he thought it was a game between trainer and pokemon, but Jack did not want another run-in with an angry mother.

Thickening his accent playfully, he jibes "But milady must not be fooled by the environs of the faire, for this speech doth issue forth from native tongue." With a wink, he slips back into his natural accent, "I'm from Hulbury, in Galar. I've only recently gotten to Hoenn as part of my travels." Taking another drink of mead, he sighs and replies "I'm not a fan of ren-faires for similar reasons as you - I actually think they are a touch ridiculous. They're popular back home though, and it is one of the few places I've found here where Harpe and I can practice so I came to see what Hoenn's faires had to offer."

Jack leans back against the stall and takes another drink of mead. "Did your brother come with you today or are you suffering through today's experience on your own?" he asks.

Scribbling down the link to his blog on the notepad, Jack glances over at Beau with one eyebrow up. Uncertain on how to respond, he settles for a solemn nod to the man. "Yes, I'll certainly have to note to my readers that this is, in fact, one of those fancy bars," he smiles to Zev as he passes the notepad back.

Before reaching for the drink, he snaps a surreptitious photo of the beautiful concoction, making sure to angle it to show up the elegant curves of the orange garnish. He listens respectfully before taking a sip of the of the old fashioned, envisioning what the distillery must look like as the smokey taste rolled across his tongue, slightly softened by the inclusion of the sugar. As Zev's words soak in, especially about the costliness of the whiskey, a warm flush rolls across his nose and cheeks - partially from the liquor and partially from embarrassment. He probably should have asked about prices beforehand.

"Thanks for the drink, sir. I'll be sure to share the story of its high-quality ingredients and Milo's master mixology," he smiles reassuringly to Zev. Turning to Beau with interest, he asks "What do you think, mate?"

Jack warmly clasps Zev's proferred hand, giving it a hearty shake even as Watts slaps his paws to the floor in a playful bow to the rockruff. "Pleased to meet you, Zev! My name's Jack." He glances down to his boltund, hoping that the excitement of meeting a new friend would not send him into a barking frenzy. "And that's Watts. He can be a little exuberant but he won't cause any trouble. Same story for my new mate Beau here," he says with a playful nudge of Beau's arm.

[break][break]With an obvious glance around the room before, Jack smiles. "This is an awesome place! The photos don't really do it justice. Do you mind if I write about it in my travel blog?" He steps away slightly, leaning against the bar casually with an eye on the boltund as he continuously jumps playfully around the rockruff.

"oh, no. i wasn't here for lunch," jack replies as he holds the trash bag open for another airdrop from poe. "i actually write about different travel destinations on my blog, so i was here to write about the beach. i just got bummed seeing all the trash so i figured I'd pick it up while i was here. nothin' Good Samaritan about it, just helping out!"
[break][break] jack's eyes drift to the other beach goers, watching them wander up and down the sand to scoop up trash. some even had their pokemon helping out. even those who weren't near jack and beau began to join in, swept up in the activity that was spreading like a wave.

[break][break] turning back to beau, he inquires "there's some other places i'd like to check out, if you're interested in joining?" his head turning one way and then the other, jack spots no other trash nearby. watts sprints by in a spray of sand, his mouth free of half-eaten sandwiches even as poe swoops by with empty talons. "i've read that slateport has some great bars in the lower district."

jack flexes his arms almost reflexively at the woman's comment, though thankfully the mead arrives quickly enough that the can hide a faint blush behind the heavy clay flagon. his body is naturally athletic from the almost continuous walking, hiking, and climbing in search of the next best pic as he traveled and he was used to the attention from lads and ladies alike, but he never could shake being faintly embarrassed by it either. finishing a long pull, he sets the flagon back down with a heavy thump. must have a thick clay bottom to reduce the amount of mead while making the container look large. good to know these faires pull the same tricks regardless of region he thinks to himself, feeling a little closer to home for a passing moment.
[break][break] harpe begins to rotate slowly in the air as if swept up in the woman's interested gaze, bronzed sheath glinting in the noonday sun as she speaks. almostly lazily, the pokemon drifts over to her and extends its azure cloth toward her arm in a loving caress. jack snatches the end cloth in a two-fingered pinch grip and tugs it back away from the woman just as she finishes speaking. "wow, you sure know a lot about honedge. even back home, a lot of trainers miss the finer details of their forme, and... uh, the origin of the pokemon," he says, the admiration clear in his voice even as he looks disapprovingly at harpe.

[break][break] "the name's jack, by the by," he sketches a courtly bow as he introduces himself, his bare abs flexing with the motion. "do you go to a lot of these? he gestures vaguely at the surroundings with the flagon of mead.

jack's heart soars as the two pokemon run to and fro, with watts gently tagging the smaller yamper even though he was literally sparking with excitement. his eyes narrow a bit at georgette's question and he wonders if she is taking the piss. hulbury wasn't a large town but it wasn't some backwoods sheep farm like postwick, either.

"it has been getting good reviews and the pics look stellar, so even if the drinks are bad we can still get trollied and I can blog about it" jack says to beau with a lighthearted chuckle as he pushes open the door to the bar. truth be told, howl at the moon was also jack's type of place - well kept but with the pretentiousness staved off by industrial decor. at first blush it feels young without being juvenile and mature without being stuffy and he likes it. watts crashes between jack's legs excitedly, his energetic tail whapping against the legs of his pants as the boltund surveys howling at the moon with a canine grin.
[break][break] jack scans the place, noting the plethora of empty seats and heads to the bar. that was the good thing about getting in early, having the pick of all the best spots and no wait for drinks. he stops at the bar and leans forward as the boltund does a continuous circuit around his legs, entertaining himself just by staying moving.

[break][break] "uh, any recommendations?" he asks the bartender with a sheepish glance at beau and the other man standing nearby. "i'm still not used to the drinks in hoenn."

letting out a puff of air in exasperation, jack brushes hair from his sweaty forehead as he glances between beau and the now trashed beach. "looks like we've got a little more work to do, yeah?" he says to beau as extends a hand to a fallen picnicker, pulling her to her feet. "and I'm sure you can't wait to clean up your belongings," he says while flashing a charming smile and thickening his galarian accent slightly.

[break][break] watts trots around happily, snatching up the detritus of the attack in slobbery jaws and dashing it back to its alleged owners. poe dive bombs beach goers still trying to pull themselves together, dropping garbage at their feet at chirping aggressively before flying off to collect more trash.

[break][break] a grin cracks jack's otherwise stressed face as he turns to beau and says "looks like we will have some help at this point." he rustles his trash bag playfully as he leans down and grabs a swath of torn cloth and tosses it away.

bemused, jack blinks at the woman before replying "ah no, not here to rustle any wooloo. i'm here to watch over the flock." he slowly walks over admiring the beautiful blue flames of the rapidash, half-mesmerized as georgette pulls a pokeball from her satchel.

[break][break] barking in excitement at the appearance of the yamper, watts sprints off with electricity sparking at his paws. he skids to a comical stop in front of the smaller pokemon, almost bowling it over. with another resounding bark, he bows playfully in front of the yamper, his tongue lolling out and his eyes wide with expectation.

[break][break] jack's mood, buoyed by the beautiful rapidash and the playful hounds, quickly evaporates as georgette's word's bring him back to the reality of the job. "lycanrock, huh? i've never run into any myself but i think most of galar knows how brutal they can be on a flock," he shivers as he speaks, stopping near to one of the woolly pokemon. with one hand scratching the wooloo's head, his other drops to his belt to grab a pokeball. with a soft lob, he tosses the ball which opens to reveal a silvery honedge. "just in case, eh harpe?" he says to the sword pokemon.

jack ignored the distraction of the sweat dripping down his neck and sliding to the small of his bare back as he pivoted quickly, striking harpe against his opponent's aegislash shield. his opponent shifted and the pokemon took only a glancing blow. watts barked encouragement from the edge of the sparring paddock as jack lined up for another strike. flexing his toned biceps, he lunged forward again with the honedge held low but his opponent had already started moving and shoved him hard in the chest with the shield forme pokemon. the thin mud and hard shove sent jack tumbling backward into the mud, his feet going out from under him in an ungraceful spin. lying there in the mud, he felt harpe wrap the cloth that hung from its blade around his wrist and he called up wryly to his opponent "look's like I'm dead. good match!"

[break][break] with the help of his sparring parter, jack regained his feet and grabbed his bag. with a deep bow to the man who had bested him, jack leaped the wooden fence and landed lightly next to watts. too bad I'm covered in mud he thought to himself as he stuffed his shirt in his pack rather than soil it by pulling it over his muddy body. he mentally made some notes to himself about what to cover in his upcoming blog post about the ren-faire as he walked, though he kept an eye on harpe as it floated along next to him to make sure it did not snatch any children with its cloth. i forgot how much fun these faires can be though some of these decorations are a little... tacky. is this how people think medieval galarians actually lived?

[break][break] arriving at a stall where drinks were being sold, he sidled up next to a woman with an eyepatch and scanned the offerings. "no spiced wine?" jack asked with a sly grin. "better make it a mead then, same size as hers" he said with a nod to the woman in the pirate costume.
