Ruby hissed out a bubbling breath and pulled her hand back before the wild Clamperl could chomp down on it. Little shit... but at least the pearls were pretty valuable. She tapped a Dive Ball against its shell and pocketed it for when she went back to the surface.

Ruby grinned when her ball smacked the target, sending her victim into the drink. She took her place on the "throne" and jeered at DESIREE BLOOMS. Unfortunately for her, the stranger managed a near-perfect hit on the target, and Ruby took a dive.

[break][break]She swam to the surface and spit out a mouthful of water. "Lucky shot," she said with a smirk.

[break][break]When it was her turn to throw again, there was a literal child in the seat. Maybe an early teen. Either way, oops, her hand slipped as she was throwing. What a damn shame the ball was wet.

Ruby only bothered coming back after confirming that, yes, someone had dug up an actual Tera Shard. Arachne walked along the sea floor while Ruby scanned for anything that looked like treasure... or, knowing her luck, more junk. Maybe if she gathered up enough crap, she could at least sell it.

Great, the carnival was traveling now. And it was in Mossdeep this week.

[break][break]Ruby hadn't seen Johanna Joy since the whole dream-Galar thing. She still didn't know how to feel about their relationship or the girl herself. Yeah, she was a traitor who used her rich family's money for crap like this—sure, the profits went to helping kids, but how much did all of this crap cost in the first place?—and the dream Galar had been, duh, a dream, but... Ugh, trying to think about it got her head all mixed up.

[break][break]Well, if she was going to be stuck with this "Funtasia" for a whole week, she might as well make use of it.

Ruby may not have been the biggest carnival-goer, especially with this carnival, but even she couldn't say no to the dunk tank. A chance to test her aim and strength, watch people get dunked, and taunt anyone who tried to dunk her? Now that was her idea of fun.

[break][break]She didn't recognize the girl currently sitting on the "throne," which meant it would be less fun to dunk her. Eh, those were the breaks. She tossed the ball in her hand a couple of times to test its weight, took aim, and chucked it as hard as she could at the target.

Dammit, for once, Ruby hated being right. Xenon didn't like monarchs, and she didn't like democratically elected leaders. "What the hell are you a fan of, then?"

Ruby momentarily thought about sending out her own to help, but another idea struck her: "If we're gathering a bunch of Poison-types, I've got just the thing." With a lazy toss, she sent out a shiny Salazzle. "Her pheromones should lure in whatever Poison-types are around here."

[break][break]Of all the names Xenon could have given her, Red was the one Ruby was most okay with. Ruby didn't remember her partner's name, either, only that it had been unusual and started with an X. Or maybe it was a Z? Whatever, she was Annoying Ultramodern Girl to Ruby. Didn't exactly roll off the tongue, but whatever.

[break][break]She narrowed her eyes. "What the hell should I care?" she asked in response. "I don't know any of these people, and I've got a job to do."

[break][break]She'd be singing a very different tune if they'd been doing this in Mossdeep, though. The thought of one of the very, very few people she actually cared about suffering because of her work made her stomach turn. And, yeah, this was about to screw over a lot of innocent people. That sucked. But what was she supposed to do, tell Rocket to buzz off? It wasn't like Ruby hadn't been screwed over plenty of times, too. They'd be fine.
