orchid pushes aside the fact that her finds had been somewhat mediocre, deciding to keep going. the choices and sights usually overwhelmed her under the water; in any normal circumstance, she wouldn’t mind the abundance of things in the slightest, but the water made everything more difficult. diving back underneath, she doesn’t give herself time to contemplate her picks.

another success leads orchid back to that feeling of victory she loves so much. she wonders if two in a row would be possible for her anytime soon, hurrying back to the throwing point. the tank’s always had people she hadn’t recognized in it, and this time was no different. maybe she’d feel worse about it if that were different. guiltlessly, she prepares to throw.[break][break]

jupiter recognizes her. there isn’t a single doubt in her damn mind, he had seen her, spotted, her, known it was her. fuck. this is what she gets, she guesses, for branding herself so strongly. pink isn’t the quietest color.[break][break]

jupiter isn’t moving. they’re staying there, staring at her, and orchid can feel their eyes on her, damn it. it’s horrible, it’s excruciating, and it’s all she’s wanted for the past god-knows-how-long since they’ve broken up. [break][break]

she’s tempted to go to him. her secrecy had been ruined anyways, and any chance of her going unnoticed dead. with all the fear in the news recently, she can’t help but want to fall back into what had felt so safe for so long, to run back to jupiter’s arms.[break][break]

god, she was one of those people. the ones who couldn’t stop yearning for their exes even when it’s more than clear that they’re through, over, gone, done with. it’s humiliating, to want this person so badly when she had had them before, and it had gone so horribly south.[break][break]

and yet, she finds herself chasing jupiter when he begins to move away. she tells herself it’s because no one runs from her, damn it. no event here could be more interesting than her. even she knows she’s lying, though, as she feels her heart sink at the possibility of their meeting being so brief, so utterly nothing. [break][break]

A Nightly Walk

Briefly tired of the crowds and chaos closer to the source of the fireworks, Orchid had decided to calm it down, heading to the beach for a hint of alone-time. She was sure she’d be getting enough crowds at her next performance, or the next tie she decided to do a meet-and-greet, or… whatever drew the crowds next. She’s got her cover-up back on now, walking with it held wrapped tightly around her — she forgot how breezy beaches could be.[break][break]

She’s walking with Quartz, her little dyed-pink vulpix leaving tiny pawprints in the sand. It’s cute, and Orchid is glad the small creature hadn’t elected to be carried across the beach. She reaches down to pat, crouching and giving Quartz a few pets on her tiny head. Her thoughts drift, then, and she finds herself staring off into space.[break][break]

She’s startled out of it by movement, not too far from her. Upon further inspection, it’s a man, and a few Pokemon, looking to her like a Joltik and… Shieldon? She isn’t quite sure, she had never felt the need to learn much about rock Pokemon. [break][break]

Standing, she isn’t sure whether to approach or leave the man to his space. They seem to be he only two very closeby, and Orchid is more than capable of enjoying her time alone, but she also isn’t exactly used to being so close to someone and not speaking with them, or receiving some form of attention. After all, she’s Orchid Bellerose.[break][break]

She decides to stay put, watch what the man decide. In this moment, she wishes she had her hoodie — she had been more than happy to be recognized during the festivities, it went perfectly with her image. But did she really want to deal with being seen taking a stroll by herself while a party went on not too far from here? That hardly seemed like her, or at least the version of herself she gave to the world. [break][break]

This isn’t Orchid’s usual type of scene. No, not anything like it at all. She’s still new to this whole Rocket thing, and hadn’t been expecting to be taken into doing tasks for them so quickly.[break][break]

She needs a chance to prove herself though, so she’s determined to see this one through to the end. No matter how grimey and disgusting the setting is. She’s not looking forward to this, but it would get easier with time, she’s hoping. [break][break]

At least her partner appears to be another young woman, around her age. Orchid doesn’t know what she would’ve done if she had to deal with an annoying man during this. She remembers her past meetings with @rook , and can only shudder at the mess those had been. What a bitch he’d been.[break][break]

This one doesn’t seem nearly as bad. This mission partner also seems confident enough. Confident enough to be noticeably eyeing Orchid, at least.[break][break]

At first, she had thought she had gotten a bad one, one with the audacity to look at her negatively. It hadn’t taken her long to realize what it was in reality, though. And those types of looks? Well, Orchid didn’t mind at all.[break][break]

Trish tells her then that she’d be willing to do most of the work, saying Orchid has no need for dirtying her hands. Orchid can’t help but think she might take her up on it; she’s not quick to like most people, but Trish is winning her over with this. If she wasn’t, Orchid was sure she’d have verbally, and mentally, destroyed her a few times over by now.[break][break]

She’s bold, Orchid will admit. Especially with the ‘hot’ comment. Orchid smiles at it, a small one that tugs at the corner of her mouth. Well, bold or just impulsive — she seems almost embarrassed by the attention she’s been paying to Orchid. The pink-haired woman is unfazed, having received attention like this on the daily.[break][break]

“I’d appreciate that, Trish,” she laughs a little, checking her nails. It’s not a full laugh, but it is one that fits her well enough. “Just got them done,” she flashes her fresh nails at Trish, “I’ll help where I can.” She thinks about the knife in her pocket. It had been a last minute-grab, something she only barely remembered she had as she had searched her apartment for anything helpful to her. And now, she may not even have to use it, thank everything. One thing about Orchid — she’s not afraid to be high maintenance.[break][break]

She pauses at the Rocket comment. The compliment feels good, she’ll admit — no matter how famous she gets, how much distant praise she may get, it’s always nice to hear it in person. In private. “I’m sure there’s many hot people in Rocket, but there’s only one me,” she teases. She doesn’t know who this Kira is, but she hopes she’s attractive, if she’s being compared to her. [break][break]

“Oh, don’t worry about that.” Orchid says, when Trish begins saying she’ll shut up. Don’t get Orchid wrong, in many situations, she did want the person nearest to her to shut the hell up. But… in this case, it was alright. “May as well make this as pleasant as it can be, yes?” [break][break]

The arcade growing nearer, Orchid braces herself for what lays ahead. “Are you ready for this?” A pause, and “did they tell you anything about the people we’ll be… handling? Do you have any plans?”[break][break]

getting into the groove of things, orchid is ready for her next find. she’s enjoying the water now, especially since she’d grown used to the rougher parts in her previous dives. before, it had been beautiful but somewhat difficult for her to handle. now, it’s beautiful and growing easier on her. the water feels nice on this hot day, too, so she’s excited to dive back below for a reprieve from the heat of the day. [break][break]enthusiastic and eager to discover what’s below, she rushes back to dive into the water below. [break][break]

she’d been doing pretty well! orchid was fairly proud of her finds so far, and decided she would simply keep going. another dive down to the bottom would certainly net her more treasures. so it was decided then and there. orchid surfaces briefly, letting herself take one look at the surface, before returning to diving.[break]
