SLATEPORT'S BEACH IS LINED WITH SADDLED MANTINE. A surfing instructor named Angus awaits at the shore, waiting to see anyone would be brave and willing to try Mantine surfing tricks.[break][break]

After practicing your tricks, Angus implores you to dazzle the onlooking spectators with your newfound skills. Every trick he has taught or demonstrated has a set amount of points associated with them. He asks you all to aim for the highest score!

HOW TO PLAY

TO PLAY, please read the instructions below.[break][break]

You must POST with a ROLL. However, you must also select a TRICK YOUR CHARACTER WILL PERFORM (LIST BELOW) and include the TRICK IN YOUR POST, BOLDED OR IN THE NOTES.
If your character SUCCESSFULLY PERFORMS THE TRICK by ROLLING WITHIN THE TRICK'S RESPECTIVE NUMERICAL RANGE, then your character will be able to earn POINTS.
EDITS TO POSTS will be strictly monitored through the AUDIT LOG. Cheaters will be immediately banned from the event.
Your points will continue to add up throughout the entire event. Please keep track.
You can only POST ONCE PER DAY PER CHARACTER.

TRICKS

GOREBYSS/HUNTAIL SPIN[break](100 PTS)

the safest trick one can attempt. in the air, one must roll three times with their mantine. as a note, a gorebyss spiral consists of three left rolls while the huntail spiral consists of three right rolls before finishing with a double barrel roll.

roll between 1-100

LANTURN 360[break](500 PTS)

this trick is often used by surfers on the highest of waves. in order to perform the lanturn 360, surfers must do a back flip and front flip before transitioning into a full 360 flip in the air.

roll between 25-100

PRIMARINA TWIST[break](1000 PTS)

conversely, the primarina twist if often performed on low waves. to execute this trick, surfers must front flip two times before personally back flipping on to the gliding mantine's wide wingspan.

roll between 50-100

STARMIE 720[break](1750 PTS)

a nausea-inducing trick for the inexperienced, the starmie 720 features three rolls before spinning around fiercely in 720 degrees.

roll between 75-100

OVER-THE-GYARADOS[break](2500 PTS)

this notoriously difficult trick requires the surfer to back flip, right roll, and front flip before being launched mid-air to land on the flipping mantine's back.

roll between 85-100

MAGIKARP SPLASH[break](5000 PTS)

the most difficult of tricks. although deceptively simple, the form and precision required to perform this trick is almost impossible.

Although the Sobble protests at first, both Derek and his pokemon are soon out on the water surfing Mantine. Once shown a couple tricks, the instructor tries to encourage everyone to show off for the crowd.

As a Johto native, Derek knows how popular this kind of thing is, and does his best to impress the cameras pointing at them from the shore. As their wave begins to crest, Derek and the Sobble on his shoulder attempt to perform an over-the-gyarados.

it was tradition for every mantine surfing contest to only go for the best trick. no matter how many good tricks the others have attempted, it will all be overshadowed when one completes the best trick.

not that kyle wanted the attention though. instead, he wants the bragging rights in case someone tries to one up him on something.

he prepares to ride the mantine, carefully going on it and getting a feel on the pokemon, before taking off and trying out the trick. he's not the best surfer, but he's had experience in doing skateboard tricks tony hawlucha games.

those are basically the same, right?

WITHOUT A DEDICATED RACE, the thrill of competition seems all but absent. there’s no need to play strategically or with a mindset of risk versus reward. that alone allows fernando to open up as he practices at his own pace.

handling the mantine feels different than last time. maybe its the way his balance has been tilted in recent events. or perhaps it’s something else. either way, he finds his movement a bit behind the mark as he tries to get down the one move he’s never attempted in an actual race.

Mars is no stranger to Mantine surfing. He even has a Mantine that had been trained specifically for that activity and that activity alone (as Remiel Calcifet would know, after their “Qwilfish-bomb” missadventures).

Noah had lived most of his life but had never gone Mantine Surfing despite always being there at the beach whenever he could. After witnessing all these awesome people have a try he decided it was time for his own good ol' college try. [break][break]

Taking the wave with the pokemon under his feet he would let the winds of fate decided whatever was about to happen to his body. Hitting the wave him and the pokemon would hit flips, turns, mre flips. The world spinning around him as he didn't have a single clue what the hell was happening to him, just praying to Arceus he didn't look like a bird caught in a net and that he could land this thing back into the water while being alive. It feels strange, attempting to enjoy oneself in earnest after Hoenn's recent disasters. But it's welcomed, too, in a way; it may not heal the wounds, but a soothing balm against them is enough.

Gavin hates Mantine surfing.

He also hates losing.

So, upon the challenge of a fellow Rocket, he steps up to one of the saddled sea creatures and implores it to do its worst with the dangerous MAGIKARP SPLASH.

Frankly, Flapjack wasn't the catch Isaac had expected to get the most mileage out of. The big goof was more interested in play than anything else, and had really only fallen into Isaac's possession through beachtime happenstance. Then the Splashfest rolled around and it turned out Isaac couldn't have asked for a better copilot. Looks could be so deceiving![break][break]

Why would Isaac even need a rental Mantine when he had his own right here? Especially because the big lug had practically broken out of their Pokeball and begged to join the fray when they heard how many other Mantine had gathered. Part moved by their infectious spirit, and part to avoid having a beached manta ray, Isaac knew what he had to do.[break][break]

Now, the two crested together up and down some of Hoenn's gnarliest waves. There were so many options here! Isaac could barely begin to imagine which ones he'd take. Maybe he'd start things off simple, or at least as simple as a dizzying array of mantis front-flips and trainer back-flips could be. It was time to test things off with the even odds of a Primarina Twist![break][break]
