years ago derek came to the hoenn region as an aspiring pokemon trainer. shortly after reaching the status of gym leader, the tragic loss of a family member saw him return home just days before the start of the ultra beast war.

having left without proper notice, the authorities, news stations and even the people dragged his name through the dirt to no end. but by the time he heard of the news, the battle was nearly over. when he arrived back in hoenn, the greatest obstacle they faced was rebuilding what was lost.

Shortly after returning to Hoenn, Derek participated in the raid on Mt. Chimney to quell Groudon's rampage, earning himself an endorsement from the League for his efforts.
