Sometimes remote troubleshooting just wouldn't do the trick. It would've been nice in this case, considering he'd had to book it from Slateport to get to this gig at a reasonable time - the man's impatient voice ringing in his ears.[break][break]

"I can't do it, you're going to have to come look at it. This guy here doesn't know what he's doing." As if hearing something like that would endear Emerson to his plight, and not to the poor mechanic stuck with his hands tied and suffering the man's company.[break][break]

Burrito clamped between his teeth, the redhead pulled the wheel of his IT van hard, peeling into the office lot so that he could scarf down the rest of his lunch before he headed inside.[break][break]

And what a sight he met.[break][break]

Em gawked at the sight of the raised wrench, sucking in his lips to avoid a hoot of sound slipping loose. It would appear he'd arrived at the right moment. "Uh, I'm here about the system reset?" Eyes moving from the older man to the other - who undoubtedly knew more about the problem.[break][break]
Hopefully Em didn't have stray bits of cilantro rice on his shirt.

While James is distracted by the large bird, Em notices his pawmot going toe to toe with a mini version of himself. An AM THRUST clocks the pawmo and sends it stumbling back for the catch.

He perks at the suggestion. Turning back toward James, he nods. "Oh, yeah - that'd be super helpful. Gods know I'd make a mess of it on my own." It's not his area of expertise, after all.

Em watches as a manectric wanders by, but he doesn’t bother to send his pawmot against it. Instead, his attention returns to his friend. He rubs his hands together, finding himself wishing he’d brought along a pair of gloves.

“That sounds interesting— I’ve been looking at the manuals I’ve found, myself. So admittedly I find myself curious about the type: null too.”

Though perhaps, unlike James, Emerson is a little less concerned about the ethical ramifications. It’s the hacker part of him, he supposes.

“I’ve been to the border a few times!” his brows furrow after a beat. “Nowhere else, though.” Idly, he pats the fur atop his plusle’s head before perking up, “If you ever need extra hands, though, I wouldn’t mind tagging along.”

The fact that he’s willing to make the suggestion is a sure sign of how comfortable he’s become in their friendship. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so bold.

Of course Sen picked him out all but immediately. Because Emerson couldn’t have nice things. If it were any other person, being noticed so quickly might’ve made him preen. With Sen, it only stoked a flicker of irritation as he turned himself back around to face the taller man again (or so he told himself.)[break][break]
If he’d been self-conscious about the tight fitting clothes he’d been wearing before, it doubled as Sen eyed him. His fingers picked absently at the fluffy, white fringe of the red crop top. The thick, reindeer bell collar suddenly felt like a step too far. As did the matching shiny, pleather short shorts and the thigh high socks. All of it too much effort. Except for the antler headband, that was fine.[break][break]
He probably would’ve fuckin’ died if he’d thought to add a fluffed reindeer tail to the back.[break][break]
“What about it?” he huffed, cheeks reddening against his will at the ~~pet name~~ nickname that had been annoyingly assigned to him. The choice had been funny at the time– Rudolph the red-haired reindeer. Now, he wanted to evaporate.[break][break]
“At least I’m wearing something. Real creative of you.” Em’s eyes flickered down, and back up to Sen’s face in what he hoped was a look of judgment. And not just blatant ogling of the other’s shirtlessness which had already been an image that stubbornly refused to be scrubbed from his mind. His arms folded, hip subconsciously popping with his attitude.[break][break]
“Don’t you have other people to inflict your presence on?”[break][break]
It was cheap bait, even if Em didn’t fully realize what he was doing. The inadvertent effort there to goad Sen into an argument, which meant that Sen’s attention was on him, and not somewhere else, as he’d questioned. His chin tipped up defiantly, and the loose, half-hearted braid he’d attempted earlier slid off of his shoulder.

Beignet throws out a paw, snagging an emolga from the air with his arm thrust. And because it’s a rat, Emerson immediately tosses a ball at it.

James’ remark prompts a flutter of anxiety and Em looks at him with wary eyes. “Yeah…I think that’s a fair point. Have you been to any of those rifts? They’re crazy!” He hums, tracking the movement of his pawmot as he continues to root out other pokemon.

“But I don’t really know where to start with any of that—do you?”

Silph had him working like crazy. Which okay, yeah, that's what he signed up for sure, but a break was definitely warranted. Maybe that's why it had been exponentially easier to convince him to show up at this party.[break][break]

His college days were long over (okay, FINE, not that long,) but he had some friends in the grad program yada yada, house party, yada yada, everyone hasn't seen you in so long, it'll be fun, something or other.

And now here he was, dressed up in what could be classified as probably kinda slutty but also in sort of a good way, blinking, bright reindeer antlers fastened to his head...and nary a buddy or pal in sight.[break][break]

Em grumbled as he planted himself by the snack table, shoving pinwheel sandwiches in his mouth while alternative between gulps from a cup of questionably cheap boxed wine. Whatever, at least he could stake out there, indulge his munchy habit and maybe eventually be buzzed enough to lose himself in the sea of body crush that littered the house. All of them dancing to the thump of too loud, somewhat fuzzy house music over speakers that were working overtime.[break][break]

If noodly, drunk flailing could be considered dancing.[break][break]

At least it was warm enough due to the sheer number of people packed in there that he didn't feel all that cold in the tight, crop top he had on. It was sort of wild, this bolder outfit. Maybe he was just acting sullen, maybe a tiny part of him did want to party a little more, after all.[break][break]

And then he spied an all too familiar head of tousled dark hair that could only belong to Sen Hasegawa and did a swift heel turn back to the snacks until his cheeks were stuffed to dedenne level proportions. Nope. He was definitely sullen and sulking for real. And also now panicking.

With it distracted, he tosses a pokeball at the little pink gremlin's back. "You and me, both," he admits, grin sheepish as he glances back over his shoulder. "None of this is me - Beignet is just running the show."

Taking a cue from James with the heliolisk, Em's plusle digs a biscuit up from the bottom of his back before hopping over to where the other's minun is hiding. With little paws she offers it up to him.

What the hell is happening? It’s unreal the way chaos seems to unfold around them for a place that was practically dead empty to graveyard ghost town levels not ten minutes ago.[break][break]
Now the café is buzzing with color and static, the persistent hum growing louder the longer the porygon flies off the handle.[break][break]
“Woowwwww, a your mom joke? In this day in age?” He looks at Nagi skeptically, brow lifting as his voice dries out like the desert. It seems that even in a moment of heightened stress, he can’t but point out a bad joke when he hears it.[break][break]
His voice is still hushed, though, and he scoots backward until his back meets the leg of the station he’d been sitting at. At least he doesn’t knock his head like the other does as he ducks out of the way of the rogue SIGNAL BEAM.[break][break]
“Woah! You okay?”[break][break]
Fumbling for his bag on the other side of the chair he’d fallen from, Emerson manages to produce his own pokeball as the shinx short-circuits it with an attack. A porygon-z bursts free. “Follow it!” As the porygon zips around, glitching with static jolts and flashes of distorted color. Anywhere the digital bird tried to disappear to, his own porygon-z cut off its access, having LOCKED ON to the other.[break][break]
“Do we catch it? Where’d it come from?” he continues to ask questions as if the bespectacled comedic genius next to him had the answers.

His head turned away, refusing to look at Sen for a moment. “Besides, I wouldn’t choose you to creep on, even if I was.” Honestly, how much ego did this guy have??

It seemed like more than enough to keep right on trucking. “Do you ever shut up?” he squeaked out in a rage, immediately annoyed that he still sounded more embarrassed and flustered than he did imposing. Amber eyes turned on Sen again, fixing on the tiny camera lens as his lips pressed together petulantly.

“I don’t believe that for a second!” A nice Sen? Impossible. He conveniently left out the thought that Sen hadn’t been so bad the other night. They’d gotten along, even. As much as two drunk, horny people were capable of getting along—barring the flirting and hooking up bits.

“Why should that be surprising?” It was all bluster, of course. He knew it was because outside of the bedroom, he was no more than a skittish dormouse. But that didn’t mean Sen got to have the last word.

Except it sorta did because this was seriously putting Em off his game. “Just give me my stuff back, okay??” He sounded shrill, like a mad kid on the playground fighting over a toy with someone else. It was embarrassing and annoying.

But also sort of disappointing too, wasn’t it? It’d been a nice thought at first, thinking that he’d managed to meet someone he wouldn’t have minded having something fun with. It had been a good time, whether he wanted to admit it or not. A really good time. So much for that.

"A game!" he piped up at Yuina's query, face reddening as he blurted out the response. "I mean, this one's based on a game, but that still means the creator had to get the idea somewhere.." Emerson trailed off awkwardly, a small laugh following. He was relieved that Niky took over, with a far more credible explanation.[break][break]

Of course, he'd played the games and while he'd like to say that those were way more scary than the movie had been...well, he was a wuss. He'd been scared out of his pants in both scenarios.

"Ummm.." Em was just about to chime in that no, he hadn't seen the awol ninetails either when the lights cut. A shiver crawled up his spine at the abruptness of it, and he looked up at the ceiling as they flickered again and then darkened entirely. Unconsciously, he inched closer to the group. "Retail or not, you'd think they'd clear the building first.."[break][break]

After all, this hadn't been the only showing that night...had it? That didn't make any sense.[break][break]

"Little help?" he was speaking to the dedenne in his arms, who wiggled free and clambered onto his shoulder. He felt the familiar static shock of the rat's little NUZZLE as Dumpling rubbed his cheek against Emerson's, allowing the creature to light up with a low, electric glow to cast just a little bit of light.[break][break]

"I dunno, though. Shouldn't we, like, not split up?" he asked Niky, casting a curious sidelong glance at the other two.
