Nikolaj didn't go to Petalburg City often; in fact, if he had any choice in the matter, he would never leave the comfortable solitude of Oldale and its countryside. But upon hearing about the arrival of a traveling funfair, he'd promised his wife they could check it out. Knowing Camila, she'd make a date of it, too.[break][break]

So that was how Nikolaj found himself surrounded by loud music, screaming children, and the aroma of exceedingly sugary snacks being hawked by numerous vendors. He'd tried to dress in unassuming clothing, but one of the ticket girls had handed them a pair of free shirts and mascot ears at the gate.[break][break]

"Cami, I don't think this is a good look on me," Nikolaj protested as he adjusted the ridiculous accessory on his head.[break][break]

His wife, however, looked way cuter in the same getup than she had any right to be. They had already taken a picture together and sent it to their daughter , Camila beaming and Nikolaj squinting into the sunlight.

Once upon a time, there lived a demon.[break][break]

Known as Chernobog, he terrorized the snow-swept countryside of Sinnoh. Men tried to fight him, but he killed them, tearing them apart with his enormous claws. He captured women and sold their children to other devils.[break][break]

While he was not the most powerful demon, the others of his kind respected and liked him because he was ruthless, dependable, and loyal. He made friends — as much as any demon can make friends. He even had a bride of his own, who he loved and showered with gifts.[break][break]

One day, however, Chernobog realized he had grown tired of the fighting and the killing. Tired of all the anger and pain. He made a deal with the king of devils, agreeing to do one last act of terror. In exchange, he and his family would disappear beyond the setting sun, left undisturbed by the ghosts of their past.[break][break]

And for a while, life was good, out there in the lands to the west.[break][break]

But times change, and demons never forget their own.
