The GREAT CHASM. Something had called Laika Oak here. Something she couldn't quite explain. Perhaps it wasn't the wisest choice to come here alone. The cries that echoed throughout this foggy land certainly seemed to tell her so.[break][break]

Nevertheless, Laika wasn't one to cower from death. To cower from anything, really. It would take a god to instill that sort of fear into her heart. If there was anything she was proud of, it was that willpower of hers.[break][break]

The PHANTUMP stares at them blankly from the end of the trail. Its eyes are dark and hollow. Its body is completely still. It doesn't take long for Laika to feel the CURSE that is slowly weaving around them.[break][break]

"Minoto... take care of it, would you?" She asks of her Sinistcha, prompting a terrible HEX. The curse breaks once the Phantump falls unconscious to the spell. Only then does Laika lift her blindfold to set her eyes upon it.[break][break]

This one would do well to join her ranks. So, pulling out an empty ball, she captures it.[break][break]

Laika Oak slips on her blindfold before entering the legendary domain known as MT. PYRE. She had always wished to visit this place. Even when she'd been a little girl in PALLET TOWN, she had heard plenty of stories about it.

Having trained under a reputable MORTICIAN in VIRIDIAN CITY, she also knew that it was an honor for any man or woman in the profession to have their dead sent here. What she'd learned from KITAKAMI beside her SINISTCHA, however, was how to attune herself to any spirits that wished to communicate.

This is why she was choosing to step onto these hallowed paths blindly. She was placing her fate, not just in the divine, but in the spirits that surrounded her. As a sort of... olive branch, if you will.

After all, one wrong step or one nefarious push was all it could take to send her tumbling down the mountainside to her death.

Laika Oak hadn't exactly been asked to come here and help, but she had volunteered herself anyway. She was something of an expert with Ghost-types, anyway. Perhaps helping the LILYCOVE DEPARTMENT STORE with its troublesome ROTOM SWARM would broadcast such a fact to the rest of HOENN. She needed a job.

So she quietly patrolled the aisles, stopping when she spotted a possessed espresso machine nearby. With a whisper, Laika sends her GIMMIGHOUL, DUCAT, to flank the Rotom from an advantageous position. Her hands reach into her pack and produce an empty ball as her little specter does this. The GIMMIGHOUL seemed ASTONISHED when Hati lifted up the boulder it was hiding behind. Both Laika and the bear cub had caught the glimmer of gold that had shone what little sunlight filtered through the clouds above. Now their interest had shifted drastically towards the little specter instead.

Just before it could RUN AWAY, the Teddiursa used its QUICK FEET to chase after it with COVET in her eyes. As the cartoonish chase ensued, Laika would produce an empty ball and cast it at the most opportune moment. It wasn't long before the ball clicked and announced her final capture at this safari excursion.

The STICKY WEB of a TAROUNTULA permeates the forest like a semi-translucent tapestry. Nothing has been caught in its web quite yet. But Hati, out of sheer curiosity, waddles forward to touch one of its strings.

The vibration ripples throughout the entirety of the web before its maker appears from the leaves of a nearby tree. After it attacks the bear cub with a BUG BITE, however, the force of said bite is PAID BACK in full. The spider loses a leg as a result, and scampers off before the baby bear can do any more damage.
