[attr="class","postbox"] [attr="class","imgavatar"]  The enthusiasm in Beau's voice was infectious at first, but before Eddie could ask who exactly 'Chaos' was, that enthusiasm quickly soured into something more distressed. The pause and the dreadful silence that accompanied it was one thing, but the startled exclamation that ripped its way through the darkness of their ward sent ice water surging through Eddie's veins. [break][break] He's hurt. [break][break] Fix it. [break][break] There was something there, something painful and awful, and suddenly Eddie was struck by the urge to hold the other man tight, as if he could somehow dispel whatever it was by the strength of his will and a simple act of comfort alone. He had to make it better, he had to do something. [break][break] Eddie's hand moved almost on its own, hovering above Beau's side. [break][break] But that felt like overstepping, overreaching. The guy was his friend, and if there was one lesson that stuck out to Eddie from a youth spent trying to figure his shit out, it was that you didn't get too sentimental or touchy-feely with your guy friends. The poor kid was already troubled; why should he go and make it worse out of some misguided attempt at comfort? [break][break] And besides, Beau seemed to be making his own way back from that terrible precipice, even if it was with shaking, trembling steps. Eddie just had to try his best to meet him halfway, something he was determined to do as he drew his hand back to his own side, [break][break] “Ya ain't got nothin' to apologize for,” he started, his voice soft and low and soothing, “And yeah, I'd like that. Never been surfin' before.” [break][break] In his original version of the idyllic beach getaway, he hadn't originally imagined his friend there, but now that this too was a part of the 'when' and not the 'if', the mental image of a smiling Beau waiting for him on the warm sands was something that Eddie couldn't get out of his head. It was probably just the toxic mochi scrambling his brain something fierce... probably, [break][break] “I ain't picky. Soda, lemonade -” [break][break] Whatever you're having, he almost added, until he thought better of it, [break][break] “Or beer. God, I'd kill for an ice-cold beer right about now.” [break][break] Eddie chuckled to himself, a little in self-pitying misery, and a little at the absurd thought of trying sneak an aluminum pint bottle of Coors Light past the guards, [break][break] “Tell ya what; you bring the drinks, I'll bring the grub, and I'll make ya anything you want. Hot dogs, steak, even a veggie burger if yer one'a those folks.” [break][break] Not that he had anything against vegetarians, but the thought of Beau chowing down on some sort of soy-based faux meat patty was too ridiculous to not briefly entertain.
