Adam cursed under his breath; they really screwed the pooch on this one. Much like Kyle, Adam too checked the time to see how long they had been wandering about the woods and much to his ire they had been here for a while.

That didn’t even make any sense, these woods weren’t even that big if they had really been walking around for that long they’d cover the entire place a few times over by now and they couldn’t have done that right? They would have found what they were looking for by now.

”I’d have to just give up and not finish a job. Let’s give it one more sweep and if nothing comes up we can call it a day.” Again the idea of calling it quits didn’t sit right with him but it was possible this job was just a bust anyway.

Wouldn’t be the first time someone called in a wild goose chance. And despite all the walking, they might do none of it would amount to anything. Their surroundings never changed, the forest kept going on and on. When Adam noticed this he stopped and turned to Kyle.

”Okay I know we’ve passed this spot about ten times at this point.” What the hell was going on?

”Tell me you’ve noticed this too right? We’re going straight but somehow walking in a circle.”

Adam scratched his head and looked around to see nothing than the same forest which was beginning to feel like stretched endless. Something about all of this felt incredibly off.

He couldn’t remember where he was, how long he had been walking for and much of what he was supposed to be doing in this forest to begin with. All he could remember was that he came here with Kyle and they were looking for something……that was part right….right?

With the sudden horseback riding craze the demand for instructors and handlers skyrocketed through astronomically and Adam found himself in such a position.

He honestly thought it was nothing more than a huge exaggeration and the fad wasn’t as serious as people were making it out to be but he was wrong and terribly so.

When he got to the ranch it was simple, just take care of the Pokémon while waiting for anyone to show up. Every now and then someone would show up looking to learn how to ride and for whatever reason, they always went straight for the Rapidash which of course ended up being more difficult than the person expected.

But it was slow and peaceful and Adam enjoyed that and then they were slapped with a rush of people one after another demanding all sorts of things from lessons to carriage rides.

It was overwhelming at first but eventually died down, allowing the man to finally take a seat and relax for a second. And damn did taking a seat never feel this good before.

The kid was doing alright; the little Mudkip she had was actually putting in some work which made the ranger smile. ”Not too shabby.” He’d turn back to his own fight, the thugs were putting up more of a fight than he expected so they weren’t amateurs at least.

Whenever the Mightyena was in danger of taking a serious blow the Obstagoon would jump in and use one of its support moves, it was annoying effective. But the large Pokémon could only take so much and if it were to be overwhelmed its defenses wouldn’t matter all that much now would it?

”Soul use Extreme Speed! Siren, Dragon Pulse! Corral them together.” On his orders the two Pokémon Adam summoned continuously attacked with the moves said, backing the two dark types into a corner.

”Now use Aura Sphere! Hurricane!” Their targets were in the right spot and with the two attacks the fight was over.

There was a bit of a mess with the two attacks colliding and making a big show of explosions and wind but no serious damage was done to the surrounding area. When everything cleared up the two Pokémon were KO’d and the owners even got caught up a bit in it.

”Maybe I went a bit overboard?”

Adam wasn’t particularly fond of the idea of someone pretty much volunteering him for shit without running it by him first and he wanted to bail on this but here he was.

The good natured fool couldn’t say no and besides this way the dragon priestess would owe him one. He wasn’t sure what to expect when arrived, it was the home of some stuff researcher guy right?

Adam expected to walk up to some home turned lab or some crap like that so walking up to a gated estate threw him off, he double checked to make sure he was in the right place before moving on.

”Well damn, sure ain’t in Littleroot anymore.” He’d laugh at his own shitty joke, looking around to get a good grasp of the place. Was he sure about doing training here? Be a hell of a thing to wreck such a nice fancy place with Pokémon battles.

Well as long as Adam wasn’t responsible for any of the damages he wasn’t going to worry about it. The ranger made his way passed the gate and towards the house, knocking on the front door when he reached it. Did he smell pie?

And a whole lot of nothing went to a sudden and violent tempest of winds thrashing about through the route. These winds were strong enough to take the young man off his feet, forcing him to grab onto a nearby tree branch just to not get completely blown away.

Eyes frantically searched for the source of the winds as he began to pull himself closer to the tree to get a better hold of it. Within the eye of this storm held a large Pokémon, almost impossible to tell what it was due to the winds obscuring Adam’s view of the Pokémon.

His tight grip on the tree suddenly didn’t matter as the branch he held on to so tightly snapped. In a panic the man released his Garchomp, ordering the dragon to grab a hold of him and onto the ground with his claws. Now anchored into the ground the two could withstand the winds until they eventually died down revealing their culprit to be a Tropius.

This was their target and finally seeing it made Adam smile. There was no time to relish the moment; the enraged Tropius began to attack wildly. With the release of his other dragon, Siren, Adam countered and soon the Tropius was subdued.

Not really sure what to do with it the ranger decided to capture it.

”Jeez!” Adam wasn’t sure what to expect from the robot’s retaliation but he definitely wasn’t expecting this. Electricity in the air, his hair turning into more of a frizzy mess, Adam almost said what else could possibly happen but he didn’t’ want to be responsible for jinxing them all to hell or something.

And the plan was to keep hitting the thing, with the added twist of making sure Kyle’s Hydreigon didn’t get terminated, easy enough.

”Kanē, you alright?” The Garchomp let out a reassuring growl; he was still in this fight. ”Alright! Hit it again with the Dragon Claw!” Again the dragon lunged for the robot, striking it with his claws.

Well this was going just swimmingly for the ranger. This entire situation was botched to hell and now she was entering fight or flight which was his entire fault. Now was the time to deescalate and get a control of the encounter before it actually went to hell and a fight broke out, which wouldn’t look good at all.

If he didn’t think she was up to some shady shit before then he definitely was now given how hard she was fighting him on this. But before either one of them could do anything their conversation was interrupted by a buzzing noise.

”Just fantastic!” Adam growled, looking up to see the Vespiquen. ”Soul don’t take your eyes off of her.” The ranger ordered, turning to face the large bug Pokémon. From his pocket Adam pulled out a capsule belonging to his trusted Noivern.

He then released the dragon, she would be able to fend off the Vespiquen with no trouble at all. Meanwhile Soul’s disposition changed, the once calm and worried Lucario turned stern and was ready to move at a moment’s notice as per his master’s orders.

”Siren, use Hurricane and blow the Vespiquen away, keep her busy.” This was a waste of time, the bug had no chance against Siren.

He’d turn back to Jane as his Noivern did battle with the Vespiquen, whipping up strong winds to consume the bug. Adam trusted his Pokémon enough to take care of the work without him having to keep an eye over her and babysit. And as he did the radio in his pocket went off but he ignored it, whatever the person on the other end was saying Adam wasn’t paying much attention to it.

”Listen you're basically naked, bruised and can barely move. If you can give me a good reason to leave you alone and walk away and not help you that’s more than “I don’ need y’r help!” then I’ll be more than happy to walk away and leave you to suffer. Or you can accept help from someone who isn’t actually going to dig into why you’re like this and will patch you up and send you on your way.”
