there is no point in pantomiming a recollection so fernando spares the theatrics. having to align with PENELOPE LIVY, check in with Eva Morales, and other duties in the wake of losing Elinor Anderson leaves him with little time to play with prey. he must eat quickly and diligently.

someone unimportant walks by and fernando resorts to silence. conversation between big players are best kept between each other. his eye traces the back of the inconsequential until they’re well out of sight.

“WELL, HERRERA,” fernando says with a nonchalance that undermines how far removed he is from the situation, “you have an issue.”

long strides from tall men cover much ground. a brisk walk for them is a marathon for their peers. just one step is more than enough to make annalise henderson jealous with her current confines.

and despite this, fernando finds his soul no more level than before.

“and it is now becoming my issue.”

fernando stomachs a grimace he never quite digests. the blinking flash of his cursor highlights the last word of his report, anomaly, before reverting back to his operating system’s log in screen.

“very well then.”

the sound of his wheels churning against hard wood signal his rise. the same sound is absent when he ignores tucking in his chair. instead, he looks to the door, rather than matias or anything other distraction at the workplace.

it’s the type of discipline that would have done his co-workers some good. but not everyone can measure up to the impossible standards of a level headed silph.

“do you know why i, who never calls you, call for you today?”

CRISP SUITS MAKE UP THE UNIFORM OF THOSE IN ATTENDANCE. an unspoken expectation of professionalism is held out of due respect. the concept of holding one another to a higher standard.

but not all uniforms are sewn the same. some come with purple bruises. others, swollen lumps of yellow flesh and spinarak veins. fernando too chooses to wear his accessories proudly: a pronounced medical wrap to hide the stitches from mint frost’s booby trap, along with an arm sling for the sprained elbow of being dismounted by Zev Harcourt’s nidoking.

he spares eva a knowing glance but says nothing more than his standard greeting.

“morales.”

everyone gets situated to various degrees. the speaker moves quick with their speech, thanking those in attendance for their time, and recognizes the pair with a purple prose of their sacrifices in dewford. an easily devoured appetizer in anticipation for the meal they were promised.

“it goes without saying, many of us find it perplexing that team rocket is able to keep up with our scientific advances and intelligence departments. many of us present do not have clearance to confidential information saved for the council or the aqua initiative. how is it that team rocket is able to have procure such knowledge?”

FERNANDO’S OFFICE HAS A NEW ADDITION: a humble cart neatly tucked away into an empty corner. several bottles of already open liquors line the main center pieces, with an elusive bottle of SPICY FIGY LIQUOR being the most pronounced of all. its warm red and orange decals makes it a poignant choice among the cans of MOONBLAST MICROBREWS ipas.

“care for a drink,” fernando says mindlessly behind his computer screen. “or would you rather take a walk?”

“she’s coming,” a squirrelly fae speaks to herself. her smile broadens from cheek to cheek, bright enough to seem as if she swallowed the moon itself.

she tucks the name away. like a little secret to covet to herself. a small, unimportant exchange amidst the dead of night. but to her, it means the most. for it is the first contact she has had since the moon last waned under lilycove’s endless neon signs.

her silhouette starts to crumble into the dying dark. they eat at her limbs. all the way up her torso until only the green of her eyes peer past unruly curls.

“if you truly revere her righteous wrath, i hope we meet again.”

she looks up to the last sliver of a crescent moon.

“when the tide is highest and the water flows freely, we should meet under a brilliant moon.”

her smile curls.

“that would make my mistress very happy.”
