Finally allowed to wander where he pleased without a worried Rocket medic hovered, something about making sure shock was completely gone, Rex had made straight for the Main Foyer. Why? Cause an open bar was quite possibly the best thing ever and he was feeling lots better after being able to move around. [break][break]

A little bit of drink would do him well (When did it not?), and even better, there might be somebody there who wasn't in the war! He could tell them about destroying that kaiju thing! [break][break]

So, a little stiffly, Rex arrived and started making a beeline for the horrible liquid causer of embellishments and stories.

Gavin's humour is dry as he approaches, recognizing the younger Rocket from behind thanks to his shock of blue hair. The underboss signals the grunt tending the bar for his usual and takes a seat next to Rex. A strong Galarian scotch is slid across the bar and Gavin sips at it.[break][break]

He's sure Rex is damn sick of that question by now, but his tone is more curiosity than concern. If the medics had cleared him, there was little to worry about in the way of physical damage. Not for the first time, he wishes there was a psychologist aboard.

"Where else am I supposed ta' go?" Rex chuckled, "They barely wanted to let me come here, even. Like I'm a little kid or somethin'." Obviously, as Gavin ordered his own drink, Rex copied it and stared down at his new and unknown drink. He practically relished in the fact he was probably gonna hate it on first try. [break][break]

"Fine, see?" He grinned his widest grin, unaware of the fact it came off like a put upon expression. Instead, he tried to focus on anything than rapidly repeating memories of lucky breaks...he did not need to think to himself for the hundredth time of what could have happened if One flew just a little too slow. "You dissappeared for a little, didn't ya?" As if to avoid his drink for a moment, he gestured using the cup at Gavin, "That was mean, you know? I wanted you to see me kicking ass, you missed like all of it!" Hopefully the man had seen that giant kaiju thing, Rex wasn't even sure he could describe the monstrosity, or what had even taken it down...he just knew whatever happened, he helped. For sure. His words were chirpy and easy. AKA, he was just fine. Completely.

"Lucky man." Rex hummed in envy, "You'd think with how long I've been here, they'd listen to me too." Finally, he raised his cup, coughing as he gulped it down. Improper drinking was sort of his thing. Just trying to get as drunk as possible. [break][break]

His eyes narrowed a bit as Gavin told where he was...so he was at that place? When? His curiosity won over at the strange name that came out of Gavin's mouth, "Ga...Giratina? Is that...is that what that was? Is it a Pokemon?" It didn't look like an Ultra Beast, the artificial appearance that still plagued his mind. [break][break]

"So, was it there to...help?" He piped up hopefully, "'cause you didn't look...well, panicked or anything," Like me, his mind provided helpfully, "When you were helping that kid, I mean."

He will not admit that he had been panicking, and was just better at hiding it than others. He drains the rest of his glass, and waves for another.

"You've been around a while, huh? Ya don't look like it." He hoped it was obvious there was a complimentary tone in his words,, even if it was delivered in the same lackadaisical way he tried to embue his every word with. [break][break]

"Ohhhh." Rex intoned, understanding nothing. A Legendary meant something important, right? Wonder why he hadn't heard of it till now. "...I couldn't keep my cool." A nervous laugh punctuated his almost whispered words, eyes flickering around to the people nearby, as if he was spilling a big secret. "It was all so bad out there." He pointed with his drink towards Gavin, "And then there's freaks of nature like you. How do ya just decide not to panic?" His Pokemon, other people. They all seemed so much better.

Glass clunks against the counter as the grunt manning the bar sets down Gavin's drink. He sips this one slow, pensive.[break][break]

"Too long," he scoffs, tone suggesting no offense. "About a decade, if you can believe it. Not that I've been counting the days."[break][break]

Thinking back on the past was like viewing the life of another through the judgmental lens of hindsight. He was not the same reckless, hot-headed youth that had fallen in with Kanto Rocket as an excuse to make money in spite of his parents' disapproval. Old Rocket had scared that out of him. When they started killing families, kidnapping kids... suddenly it had seemed a lot more serious. He was lucky to have escaped the notice of those that had mattered, back then.[break][break]

He's pulled from the reverie by Rex's question.[break][break]

"Survival instinct, probably," he shrugs, covering the lie with scraps of truth. "Live now, panic later. But you lived, too." He clinks his glass against the one Rex had leveled like an accusation, a mock cheers. "So you must be doing something right."

A curious smile lingered on Rex's lips, trying not to answer something stupid like "You're old!" Or the other stupid shit that came out of his mouth. He didn't think it would be an appreciated comment, no matter how much of a joke he turned it into. Either way...older people usually knew what they were talking about (ignoring his 25 years of life), so he could probably trust Gavin...right?

"Wish it felt that way." He beamed at the charming clink of the glasses, cheered even if just slightly, "I just wanna fight people, and not freaks anymore, then I can show you an' the boss what I'm made of!" Even now, it seemed his only goal was acknowledgment.

"There are other ways to prove your worth," Gavin points out, tipping back the rest of his glass and setting the now-empty vessel on the bar. He doesn't order another. "We're in a time of peace, now; at least as far as Hoenn is concerned." His laughter is dry. "A soldier must find another use for his skills when there are no battles to be fought."

As far as Rocket were concerned, that's what Rex Drago was — a soldier, a fighter, an asset of war. But with Walsh in power and the new directive urging them toward subtlety, they all needed to adapt.

AN UNKNOWN CREATURE scuttles through the submarine too fast for anyone to catch sight of it. Only the constant echo of vibrating pipes leave any clue that it even existed in the first place. [break][break]

Soldiers are not the only ones who must find a new use for their skills. Something else exists in the submarine and its lack of activity festers into a newfound restlessness. Like the emptiness between them, the creatures' presence is fleeting as it rumbles in the tunnels above them. [break][break]

Rex was absolutely the type of person to hate being underwater with every fiber of his being, but was doing his best to ignore it. He paused just long enough to avoid shuddering as the pipes let out a groan, then continued on like nothing happened. The drink helped. [break][break]

"Skills." It didn't take a genius to see his only skill was in violence, didn't it? "So what, am I supposed to use my pretty face to your advantage?" He did remember at Littleroot, he was relegated to participating in the contest for some Godforsaken reason.
