as kyle's arms fall slack, dahlia allows herself to relax too. still, the tension remains, no matter how thin in the body. her eyes search for hurt— she feels like an officer knocking on the door of a family who knows not what they have lost.

"we can visit her now." dahlia says. frankly, her schedule does not allow for it— but she can make exceptions. "she's being treated in the best hospital in ever grande. i can take you there."

she stands, coffee unfinished.

he allows himself another deep breath. he tries to muster up any semblance of optimism he has, but he cannot find himself to look brightly into the future. there was nothing for him to do in this scenario, unlike the new year of 2020 or the attempted takeover of his hometown by rocket.

kyle pulls out his phone and sends a message to noah about getting home later, taking a sip of coffee while his fingers do the work. another deep breath occurs before he leaves the cup of coffee in the table.

"thanks."

he stands up from his seat and follows after the commissioner.
