The first early morning rays of sunlight had barely started to crest over the horizon, chasing away the gloom of the night, when Skyler had stumbled out of bed, grabbed a snack and some coffee, and flown over to Route 120.

She was still blinking blurry eyes as she wrapped some gauze around her fists, clad in her training clothes. By her side was a tough-looking Lopunny, her fur marred by the occasional scar and an eyepatch over one of her eyes. "Ready, Clarabelle?"

They started out by doing a few stretches and warm ups, the Lopunny copying her trainer as she went through her morning workout routine. There was a palpable sense of excitement in the air as Skyler took a fighting stance, perspiration starting to gather on her brow.

"First set?"

By now this was familiar territory to both of them, so when Skyler took a step forward and launched a kick at the Lopunny, it was easily dodged. A few seconds later, both human and pokémon were too focused on the spar to pay too much attention to whatever might be happening around them.

a few miles from the coastline of lilycove city, valerio finds himself and his charizard in the spur of the moment to train. and it looks like he is not the only one.[break][break]

She hadn't been expecting company, especially this early in the morning. "'S not like I reserved the place for myself." She grinned at the man, motioning for him to join her if he so wished. Skyler took the time to drink some water and stretch a few muscles. "Are you looking to train yourself or your Pokémon? Or both?"

As she was talking, Clarabelle, clearly growing bored and wanting to resume their spar, had wandered closer to the trees, lured by the promise of a fight when a Krookodile made its presence known. Before Skyler could say anything about the matter, the Lopunny had taken it upon herself to defeat the invader - leaving it unconscious by a tree. The blonde simply sighed and threw a pokéball its way.

"Well?"

suddenly, a swablu swoops down the pair before they can even train. the charizard break swipes with his tail. he glares at his trainer and nudges him to do his bidding: a spare pokeball is thrown on the side of the little cotton bird.[break][break]

valerio returns to explain to the blonde. “it's the latter for me. aren't trainers and pokemons supposed to train together?”[break][break]

A burst of laughter escaped Skyler's mouth at the stranger's teasing, her eyes glittering with something akin to mischief when she set them on him again. "Oh, I don't know. You don't look like you could take a punch. Old man."

She took the opportunity to study the man when a small battle unfolded between his Charizard and a wild Swablu. She didn't see her Lopunny's next challenger, a feral feline that nearly scratched Clarabelle's other eye out before the Lopunny kicked the Liepard into unconsciousness, presenting it to Skyler with a shrug. Liepard was soon caught.

"I dunno. I see lots of trainers standin' there just screaming commands at their Pokémon - how's that any decent training?" The blonde scoffed, wiping some sweat from her forehead. "Nah, this is way better." Her smile turned a little wild when an idea came to her. "Well? Wanna join in?"

“excuse me?” he joins the lady's amusement as she bunts her share of banters. he folds his arms turning to the blonde for clarification. “i prefer being called dad and most guys find it hot.”[break][break]

from one of the nearby ponds, a carvanha leaps from the water with liquidation surrounding its rough scales as charizard readies himself with thunder punch. valerio, satisfied, throws a spare ball when he sees the fish unconscious.

“i have to agree with that. training is more than just giving out commands.” he approaches the carvanha, waiting for the ball to mark its capture. “alright, show us what you got.”[break][break]

Skyler help up her arms even as an amused smile curled her lips. "Hey, you'll find no kink shaming here. Though..." A look a trouble crossed her face. "Isn't being called a dad a sort of admission of your old age?" She didn't dispute the fact that other guys found him hot - the man was pretty good looking.

At the man's challenge, a wild sort of expression flashes over Skyler's face, too brief to do anything but catch a glimpse of it. "Is that a challenge?" She approaches the man with sure steps, unabashedly reaching out for a handshake. "Skyler Dross. Ship captain and treasure hunter. I just thought you ought to know the name of the person who'll kick your ass."

Despite the fighting words, her body was relaxed, her posture friendly. It was clear that the sailor was more than used to this kind of posturing and wasn't taking it very seriously.

valerio reaches skyler's hand with a steady grip. his lips contort to a wicked, challenging grin. “jonathan aquil. pokemon trainer. you may try to beat me but i doubt you'll have any success.”[break][break]

hoon howls with skyler's declaration and eyes the lopunny on the other trainer's side, but it is the wild dubwool from the sidelines that becomes hostile. irritated of the disruption of the two trainers' presence, the sheep lunges with double kick but the charizard retaliates with his thunder punch. upon rendering unconscious, valerio hurls the ball to complement his pokemon's efforts.[break][break]

“besides, uncle sounds sluggish than dad. i don't mind the admission of age if it means experience.”[break][break]

Those who knew Skyler would take a look at the glint in her eyes and recognize it as the prelude to some sort of trouble, usually involving an embarrassingly stupid plan. This Jonathan person, however, wasn't familiar with the sailor's thought processes. "I have an idea." She told the man, her grip on his hand falling as she considered him.

"I don't really want to have a battle and have to deal with wild pokémon. So what I suggest is this-" And at this she leaned slightly in the man's directions, eyes glittering silver in the hazy morning sunlight. "We have a contest. Whoever catches the most - or the strongest - pokémon wins the competition."

She crossed her arms over her chest, looking extremely pleased with herself at the whole thing. Clarabelle, her Lopunny, seemed to have heard her trainer's words and taken them to heart: the bunny pokémon ran at a tree, just to vault off and kick a passing Fletchling onto the ground.

With a confident smirk, Skyler threw a pokéball its way. "Whaddya think, uncle?"

valerio guffaws at skyler's admission of challenge. it kinds of remind him of the grunts he has taken under his wing to train.[break][break]

“i would accept your challenge but i don't think that fletchling doesn't make the cut.”[break][break]

crossing his arms, he watches the lopunny burst into action, hitting the poor unsuspecting bird into the ground. a stray doduo sees it and takes it upon themself to run away as fast as they could. charizard, on the other hand, has a similar glint in his eyes at the mention of contest. hoon is a very competitive pokemon, thinking he always want to prove himself. and in the eyes of the lopunny, it is a perfect opportunity to demonstrate his strength.[break][break]

“allow me to show you the skills of a master, kid.”[break][break]
