The warm press of the clay jug against her lips was a comforting feeling, more so when the mulled wine slid down her throat, chasing away the wintery cold that had gripped Hoenn in its icy claws.

To be perfectly honest, Skyler was being dramatic. It wasn't very cold at all - it was still Hoenn and temperatures never really went low enough for white to settle upon the landscape, hence the fake winter wonderland that now decorated the whole of Fortree. Being a native, the sight of snow (no matter how fake) was as foreign to her as the wormhole she'd spotted earlier in the year, floating above choppy waters.

The table beneath her groaned as the sailor shifted, leaning slightly back to look at the people wandering by, laughter and conversation a plesant background hum that she let herself be lost in. Her silver eyes were on the lookout for the same number that had been pinned to her dress - a glittering seven that contrasted with the dark blue of the fabric under it.

A growl suddenly escaped Skyler's throat when part of the dress got caught on the wooden boards of the table, her attempt to free it resulting in an ominous ripping sound that she elected to ignore - as long as her butt wasn't out and about, she'd be fine.

Another cup of mulled wine rested in the paws of an Alolan Marowak by her side, the Pokémon's expression disgruntled as his fire kept the liquid at, hopefully, the right temperature. Skyler hoped her date for this round was a fan of mulled wine - and if not, well, the sailor had absolutely no problem with drinking it herself.

Emma had found her date a while ago and simply chose to not intervene or approach. Her attention was calm and oddly curious, despite her typical expression. It was a surprise that she was even here to begin with - the public scene really wasn't her forte. However, given her more recent ventures with a certain someone, the whole 'blending in' with the crowd thing as a normal fucking human being was becoming second-nature.[break][break]

The participating in a speed-dating charity event for Christmas though.. that was a stretch.[break][break]

She almost walked out of it, stripping the sticker off her breast and setting it in the trash. But the festivities and the laughter and the fact that her date was almost certainly going to make a fool of herself kept her on that fishing line.[break][break]

Emma's attention wanders to the clay jug of mulled wine gripped in the woman's fine fingers. She can see the calluses on her hands, the weariness to her steps, the confident (albeit maybe a bit drunk) way she carried herself. She was captivating, certainly, but it felt as though she were a ticking time bomb. Crashing into a party with the intent to explode.[break][break]

So when Skyler gets snagged on the edge of a wooden table, Emma slips in to her rescue, smoothing a jacket over her shoulders that would cover the tear in her dress. Emma's breath is warm, yet brief, on her neck as she pulls away. Her attention pointedly glances to the matching number 7 on the woman's dress.[break][break]

"My apologies for overstepping. Ahh.. and it seems fate has woven us together - you must be my missing piece."[break][break]

Emma smiles in an attempt to be genuine, but even she isn't quite coy enough to fully mask the wild animal look in her eyes. The makeup that outlines her eyes enunciates the haunted look in her golden eyes, though her dimpled smile is certainly charming.

Skyler only becomes aware of the other's presence as a jacket is gently lowered onto her shoulders, eyes blinking in dazed surprise at the small exhale of air that is breathed over her neck for a flicker of time, barely enough for her to feel its warmth. Only when the woman moves away do Skyler's eyes move to the figure that had jumped to her... rescue?

Huh.

Mesmerizing golden eyes flicker down to the number afixed to Skyler's dress before meeting her own and the sailor can't help the subtle inhale even as her lips curl into a mischievous smile at the woman's words.

"Rescued by a gorgeous woman - who just so happens to be my date. I think I'm in luck." There's a stark sincerity to her words, less flattery and more a simple stating of a fact. Her hand reaches out to her rescuer. "Skyler Dross, ship captain and treasure hunter."

While the sailor certainly appreciates the playful curve of the woman's smile, matching it with her own, what captures her interest is the wildness behind the cut of those golden eyes. It calls to something in Skyler, though the sailor can't figure out what exactly that is.

"Would you care for some mulled wine?" Marowak presents the small cup to Skyler's date, fire licking at its edges still. Blue-green flames are reflected on silver eyes are they search out the woman's golden ones. "And some company?"

Emma's lips curve into a satisfied - perhaps even slightly surprise - smile. [break][break]

"You flatter me."[break][break]

The woman's hand reaches out expectantly, and Emma is smooth in her approach. Her hand slips into hers softly, deliberately. [break][break]

"Anna Fletcher, coordinator - though ship captain and treasure hunter sounds far more exciting."[break][break]

At the mention of mulled wine, followed by the skull-bone face of the Marowak, Emma pulls her hand out of Skyler's. There is a mildly horrified expression that passes over her features. Ghost-type Pokemon always instilled a similar reaction in her.[break][break]

"I would be honored."[break][break]

She reaches for the cup the Pokemon is holding, if it had been offering it to her.

A DELIBIRD gently drops in beside the two ladies, bringing a bag of presents. As it arrived, the bird noticed the adverse reaction Emma had towards the exotic Marowak. A sad reaction, to be noted, as she was possibly discriminating the creature for itrs typing, but maybe something happened in her past.

Nevertheless, the xmas creature had a solution for her! First, he pulled out a bottle of Dom Pérignon for the ladies, placing it on a table nearby for them. Afterwards, the gifts came out. For Emma Wolfe , the bird took a box out of the bag, handing it to the lady. In it, she would find a necklace, said to purify her and keep ghosts and curses away. A protective charm of sort, with instructions in the box to guide her on how to recharge it.

For skyler dross , the Delibird pulled another box. This one contained a captain hat in the sailor's favorite color scheme and included a GoPro camera right in the insignia in front of the hat. With this, she could record all of her treasure hunting and sailing trips with her new radar. And finally, the Alolan Marowak was granted a new bone, slightly bigger and edgier then the one the ground type had before. Were it to try and light it up, the flames would be a dark purple shade instead of the usual green/cyan.

Skyler’s smile widens just a sliver when the woman slips her hand into her own, calloused fingertips casually sliding over soft skin in something that could have been a small caress.

Mischievousness plays behind silver eyes; there’s nothing apologetic in the curl of her smile, though she soon retracts her hand. "Anna Fletcher," she drawls out, "it’s a pleasure to meet you."

The sailor can’t help but notice the horrified expression that briefly flashes over the woman's face. As soon as Anna grabs the mulled wine, Marowak is called back to his pokéball. Skyler lets the matter die there, intimately familiar with fear of ghosts.

"You don't look like a coordinator," she says instead, teasingly, eyes flicking over the woman's toned arms and her posture. The silvery gaze snags on the elegant curve of the woman's neck before rising to her eyes. "Maybe the life of a treasure hunter would agree with you more?"

The Delibird is regarded with a quirked eyebrow, though Skyler happily accepts the gifts. The captain hat finds a perch atop blonde curls as Skyler shakes the bottle of Dom Pérignon tantalizingly at the golden-eyed belle. "Join me?"

Their handshake is probably considered intimate, though Emma is conveniently oblivious to anything more than politeness. She catches the mischievousness in Skyler's silver gaze, and, admittedly, is attracted to it. Curiosity killed the cat, and all that.[break][break]

The woman before her repeats her name back with a drawl, encouraging Emma's lips to curl in an amused half-smile. Perhaps her Kalosian accent was more prominent than she thought, to garner such a reaction from her.[break][break]

Fingers curl around her cup and the Marowak is returned, and the creeping stress is relieved immediately. Emma glances once, briefly, in a subtle attempt at a thank-you or similar, but she says nothing regarding the situation. Instead, Skyler changes the subject entirely to refocus on her career in what Emma can only assume might be a flirtatious advance. It stuns her, briefly, and her eyes stare blankly back as she studies Skyler's face for hidden meaning.[break][break]

"Is that so? Hmmm..."[break][break]

A Delibird interrupts their conversation with gifts, and Emma studies Skyler, first, while she opens it. Her guarded nature makes her stiff, and only when Skyler brings out the bottle of champagne does she open her own present. It's a necklace, one that she twines around her fingers and purses her lips at. Her own neck is bare of any such thing, but the necklace would look quite nice against her dress.[break][break]

Skyler shakes the bottle in her direction, and Emma raises an eyebrow at her invitation. The woman's good mood seems to rub off on her, and she shrugs, offering a lazy smile.[break][break]

"How could I possibly say no to a beautiful woman offering me a bottle of champagne?"

Anna's careful study of Skyler's face following her statement is met with a wicked glimmer of moonlit eyes. Eyebrows are raised tauntingly and Skyler does her best not to showcase the cheshire grin that wants to play itself out on her lips.

Her smile grows a few degrees warmer at Anna's flirty words.

"We'll have to share it, of course." Skyler nods at the bottle. "I'm afraid I misplaced my champagne flutes somewhere in the festival." Playful humor weaves itself around her words, calloused hands hard at work on getting the champagne bottle open. Finally the cork flies out with a soft 'pop'. The blonde doesn't seem overly worried about getting it back.

The lazy smile that curls Anna's mouth, Skyler can't help but think, is unfairly alluring.

Champagne fizzes over her tongue, like sun warmed honey, delicate unlike the mulled wine that she's been drinking. Warmth trickles down her throat, but the sailor doesn't allow herself much of it before removing her lips from the bottle and offering it up to Anna, chin tilted back slightly and eyes glistening with challenge.

'I dare you, little coordinator.'

Regardless of Anna's response, Skyler's eyes would then fall to the necklace twined around Anna's hands and notice the bare skin around the golden-eyed woman's neck.

"Would you like some help with that?"

Anna meets her wicked glint with her own, eyebrows cautiously kneading together to express genuine thoughtfulness. Skyler was unfairly alluring in her own right: bold and beautiful unabashedly so. [break][break]

"I'm sure we can make do with something else--"[break][break]

And then the bottle is popped open and champagne fizzes from the top. Emma blinks in surprise, shifting her owlish yellow gaze to meet hers. [break][break]

There is a dare reflected in those silvery pools, and a dare that she doesn't dare show weakness to. Though Skyler's attention parts from her face to her bare neck and then to her hands. Emma opens her palm, the chain dangling between her fingers.[break][break]

"Trade you?"[break][break]

Emma moves dark hair over one shoulder, inviting Skyler to assist her in putting on her new gift.

Skyler's smile turns into something faintly wild and predatory at Anna's question. "Gladly."

There's no hesitation to her movements as the bottle is passed over to the dark-haired woman, leaving the sailor's hands free to hold onto the necklace.

A few strands of dark hair are left behind, and Skyler is careful as her fingers skim over the back of Anna's neck, brushing them out of the way. Compared to her chilled fingers, the surface of Anna's skin feels almost feverish.

The sailor steps closer, breath fanning over bare skin, and places the necklace onto the woman's skin with deliberately slow movements. For a moment it seems to Skyler as if time stands still, fingers briefly brushing over elegant collarbones as she joins the piece of jewelry behind Anna's neck.

After she clasps the necklace together, her fingers linger, following the line of the woman's spine for a stolen breadth of time before she's stepping back, breath held in her throat at the attraction that begs her to step closer again.

Her eyes are molten silver when Anna turns back, lingering on the necklace that dips low. Lower than she'd expected. "It looks good on you, Anna," her tone implies something else, less polite.

"What did you think of the champagne?"
