Pinky enjoyed his time at the garden very much. With only three berry trees to keep track of, he had more than enough time to just sit back and relax, pollinating when he felt like it and enjoying a few treats every now and then.

But he wasn’t just there to make the trees grow. Someone had to stay here to ward off any unwanted guests.

Pinky was roused from his nap by the sound of a Deino tantruming in the garden. He couldn’t tell what she was shouting about - her angrish was too difficult to understand - but she was bound to destroy something if he didn’t intervene. Or even hurt his trainer if he happened to stop by.

He fluttered off his resting spot, approaching the angry dragon. “Could you throw your bitchfit somewhere else?” he said politely, “This is private property.”

The Deino looked at him, spouting off some angry threats that he barely understood.

“Look, we can do this the easy way, or the violent-”

He was interrupted by a blue beam of energy fired from the Deino’s mouth. He was enveloped for a solid three seconds before the blast was complete. Not a scratch on him. He didn’t even budge.

“So you have chosen violence.”

What followed could only be described as a minute-long rave, where the only flashing lights were pink Dazzling Gleams, and the only music was a Deino’s screams of pain. By the end of it, the Deino was unconscious, Pinky barely even winded.

Pinky settled near his fallen foe, waiting for his trainer’s inevitable arrival. Sure enough, in ten minutes, the boy had arrived, accompanied by his ever-rude Lycanroc. “Were we too late?” Hideo asked, “The neighbors said they heard something going on back here.”

“Over here,” Pinky responded - more to direct Rocky than the boy who couldn’t understand him.

Rocky guided the boy over to the fallen Dragon-type. “Did you kill her?” the Lycanroc asked as his trainer poked and prodded the fallen Pokemon.

“Nah. Figured Hideo could use a dragon. And I don’t want to give him a corpse to clean up.”

“Fair enough.” The two waited until Hideo’s curiosity was sufficiently satisfied, and finally took out a spare Pokeball, tapping the Deino and drawing her in.

Catching the Deino

Hideo always enjoyed checking up on his garden. He tried to do it at least once a week, to check on his berry trees and most importantly, to make sure the Pokemon he left there was doing alright. Pinky had originally kept watch over the garden, tending to the plants and, most importantly, protecting them from any wild Pokemon. Now, he had Shade watching over it.

And watch over it he did; at three and a half stories tall, his Exeggutor had little trouble watching the garden from above. And the area around it. He heard a few complaints from his neighbors about Shade watching them when they left their houses.

But as Hideo tried to lecture his Pokemon about avoiding voyeurism, he heard something land in one of his berry trees. He didn’t know what it was, but he could guess it was a Pokemon when he heard it wiggle around and say its name as it tried to free itself.

What would have been an easy removal got a little more complicated when he heard a familiar sound; his Ambipom loved her Swift attack, so he could recognize the sound of Swift stars being fired. He didn’t know what it was firing at, but if it kept doing that, it was bound to damage one of his trees if it didn’t stop.

“Shade? Mind dealing with that?” he asked. He got an affirmative grunt in response.

He could feel the footsteps from his Pokemon as it approached the tree. He couldn’t exactly see its tail reach over and pull it out of the tree, but he could hear the Minior panic and throw more stars around.

But when a few stars nearly hit Hideo, Shade got a bit more...aggressive.

Shade tossed the Minior into the ground - and before it could float away with its newfound freedom, began Stomping it into the ground. Hideo could feel each stomp from where he stood, a little put off by the sudden act of violence, but he could trust that his Pokemon was protecting him from something. He didn’t get too concerned until he heard something crack, unaware that was just the Minior losing its shell.

And Shade was still stomping it.

“Shade, stop!” he shouted, approaching the stomping zone. It was easy to tell where it was happening when he could feel the ground slope inwards as he got closer. At least Shade listened, no longer hurting the wild Pokemon.

He stopped when he felt his foot stomp on something soft and squishy. He knelt down, pressing on it. It was still breathing, though he didn’t know what condition it was in. And it just got the stuffing stomped out of it by a half-ton tree.

“I think this little guy needs to see a Nurse,” Hideo said, picking it up (noticing the sound of rocks falling off as he lifted it). The little Pokemon whimpered, but didn’t stop as the boy picked it up into his arms. He didn’t know much about this Pokemon, but at least it was a light one. “When we get you all patched up, I got a Pokeball waiting for you. Sound good?”

The Minior whimpered, but knew it wasn’t a good idea to attack the one person trying to help it. Not while the one that hurt it was watching it, feet ready to punish it once more if it tried attacking again.

And it was free from the tree. Which was all it wanted.

Catching the Minior

If there was anywhere Hideo could get some peace and quiet, it was his personal garden: his Appletun did a very good job of monitoring his berries’ progress, and keeping them safe from any intruders. The area itself was a nice, calm space in the woods, where most of the time, the only noise was the gentle wind blowing through the trees. Hideo didn’t actually need to do anything here, but he did like to come to water the plants (and his Pokemon) every so often.

Though sometimes, some odd Pokemon would decide to take the risk and go for his berries - even while he was there.

This was one of those times.

A Masquerain flew on in, seeking some berries as a meal. In full view of Hideo’s Pokemon, and within earshot of Hideo. None were pleased by the invader, and it would be Hideo’s Ambipom that was the first to react.



With a swipe of her twin tails, a flurry of Swift stars flew at the Masquerain, carefully avoiding the tree. They struck true, knocking the Masquerain down and in range of a very unhappy Appletun, who went at it like the apple-shaped guard-dog(worm?) it was. It would be up to Hideo to save the Masquerain with a tossed Pokeball.

One could almost fall asleep in lovely weather like this, the little Appletun that served as this garden's warden basking in the sunlight. Her trainer's visits had become less frequent, though he still made time to visit her and check the garden's progress.

But she wasn't here just to sunbathe.

The Mudbray wasn't a very subtle thief, its heavy footsteps hard to miss. The little Appletun rushed over to stop it. She shouted several warnings, telling it to leave or get attacked - and the Mudbray completely ignored her.

Its funeral.

The Appletun spewed Apple Acid at the Mudbray, finally getting a pained response. The Mudbray tried to retaliate with a Mega Kick, but ducking and weaving through the garden was second nature to its longest-reigning defender.

A minute of hit-and-run battling was enough to convince the Mudbray to get lost. It tried to rush its way out of the garden - and found itself face-to-face with another common visitor: Vines, Hideo's Zarude.

It didn't even last past the first Springtide Storm, the Zarude hauling the ko'd heavy horse off towards Hideo's camp - to be properly captured by one of his Pokemon that knew how to use a Pokeball. With that done, the Appletun returned to her sunbathing duties.
