"Ah understan', ma'am. We'll keep ya inform'd." Said the youth to the the elderly woman as he tipped his hat, trying to keep the pity off his gaze as she dejectedly closed the doors of her shack.

"That's the fourth." He said with his lips pulled taut, pushing his hat harder onto his head as he turned to face his partner for the mission.

Cold, uncharacteristic snow blew onto his face as he stepped down from the porch and back into the small settlement's roads, his gaze turning to peer down to the few buildings that comprised the small village, before turning towards the mountainous forest nearby.

The last child to have disappeared was seen walking into the forest over three days ago. A young boy, much like the three other victims. Witness had noted a... absent look in his eye- and thought they had seen a pair of red dots from within the forest's shadows.

"Think we'll fin' 'em all?" He said, wondering outloud. The first disappearance had been reported weeks ago. His brows furrowed deeply.

"No, nevermind that. We will."

They would find 'em. He just hoped it was in time.

Billi was great for finding a story. Rumors that bustled behind lost lips, a murder mystery, or even more sinister, missing children wondering into the woods. To be honest Billi thought it was a local legend in the area, but that didn’t appear to be the case. In fact it was almost a fairy tale that would scare children back in Galar. One with a witch and an over. Then again...people make up wild tales, but again….everyone he talked to so far said it was real...and the victims were real.[break][break]

Granted the parents had his sincerest condolences for their losses, but even so...kids just don’t wander into the woods and disappear. Even worse the village didn’t like the media’s presence. “aah…..welll….there’s no way this is just...how they make it sound,” Billi walked aimlessly down the street, until he noticed the familiar face, “Oh hi! Are you here to see if there’s bugs or…..the rumors going around….because both point to that forest, and I wanna look into it”

He had just decided he would be going into the woods when a familiar voice spoke behind him.

"Huh? Oh, Billi. 'Ello again." He said, raising an arm slowly in greeting.

He hadn't heard about the man's job when they first met, but the man was quick to more or less give him an idea of why he was there.

"Rumours?" He said, echoing with some mild confusion. "Ah, no. I'm'ere on official business."

He held up his League Identification, pocketing it back into his winter coat a moment later.

"There's been lotsa reports 'bout children goin' missin' in this'ere area." He said, turning his gaze back to the woods. "So I was sent'ere to deal with it."

He crossed his arms, brows furrowing slightly.

"'Fraid it might've been too late..." He said in a low mutter, before shaking his head. "Nah, nevermind me that.'

He said, before taking steps towards the forest.

"Yer free to do whatever ya want, but I wouldn't call these rumours." He said, peering over his shoulders. "Whatever the reason, kids have gone missing, and the parents are feelin' pretty hopeless."

Honestly…. The badge wasn’t much of a shock, but at the same time, Billi wasn’t overly impressed by it. Could have just said it, and Billi would have believed it, but the nose for a good, fairy tale, drove him deeper into it. “Oh cool nice badge! I don’t have my Press I.D with me. Most people around here don’t like it,” taking in a deep breath, Billi moved with John.[break][break]

“Wellllll I’m excited to see what’s inside, if you ask me,” he nodded as they entered the forest, and a...rather alluring song was heard from deeper within the icy foliage. “hmmm…..that’s very pretty” Billi nodded as he walked through the snow, “It’s very….strange...it most certainly has something to do with the kids. Almost sounds like a nursery rhyme”

"Thanks, gets the message 'cross quick." He said, thinking back to all the times his age had his voice go ignored. "And makes sense. 'Tis already been sensationalized 'nough."

Doug went inside silently, keeping himself alert, but that was hardly needed. Almost as soon as they went into the woods, alluring, dulcet tones fluttered through the foliage to their ears.

Doug could only wonder if they hadn't saved one another a lot of trouble by coming together; for some reason, he felt he might have chased after the music had he on his lonesome.

"No kidding... That definitely ain't normal." He said, adjusting his straw hat as his brows furrowed. "Let's go 'fter it, 'fore it realizes we ain't fallin' for its tricks."

He began to march deeper into the forest, hoping Billy was following behind him.

The music never seemed to get any closer, but they could nonetheless follow it without a problem, almost as if their bodies knew exactly where they needed to go.

Very soon, they were not only moving deeper into the forest, but also climbing higher up the frozen Mt. Pyre. The atmosphere began to chill quickly as they ascended, making Doug thankful for the winter clothes that had been issued to him.

"How much higher does this thing want to go?" He said under his breath as they ascended further, until soon, the forest trees had all but disappeared, leaving the men trekking over uneven, frozen rocks.

Yet the song pushed them to go further.

“Hmmmm yeah….I agree,” Billi nodded as they contuined to brave the storm to an unknown end. The song like hymns of angels, but haunting enough that it could only be a demons trick. As the trek proved to be volatile, Billi paused. The higher up they went, the more dangerous it got but the music never seemed to get closer. Always distant...always yearning for something, and John and Billi were falling for it.[break][break]

“This...is wrong….why is the song not getting any louder?” Billi questioned aloud as he reached into his pocket, “Slushie!” the pokeball flew out in a blast of red, followed by a trickle of ribbons from the capsules he had on his pokeball. “Okay fella, Echoed Voice,” he asked his pokemon who released its cry, making it bounce off the snow trying to get a response. The ghostly cry suddenly changed directions as snow flung up into the air in disturbance. “SEE”

"Wait, we are trying to-!" Said the youth as he threw a pokeball, flinching as the pokemon's echoed voice boomed across the mountainous area powerfully, displacing snow as it echoed all over.

A great silence followed the attack.

Then the music returned.

No. It was not the same song; almost instantly, both men would be able to tell the intent behind it had changed completely. Faster, Violent.

As if picking up on the change of tempo, the very weather took a turn for the worse, the light snowfall slowly becoming a full blown blizzard around them, cold wind buffeting their faces.

Doug pulled his scarf more firmly around his face, brows furrowing as he held tightly onto his hat.

He had thought to let the pokemon lead them to wherever it was that the children had been kidnapped to- but that was out of the question now. Nothing left but to push forward another way.

The music no longer came from all around them, at the very least. They had a target to move towards.

"Let's go, before we become popsicles."

The snow howled into a blizzard, and the song changed to a hectic serenade of winter hell. Somehow the snow made it harder to see, but Billi kept beside his pokemon and sent out his Volcarona, “Heat wave buddy, “ he asked the fire pokemon which released a massive amount of heat from it’s red/orange wings. “There looks like there’s a cave up there,” Billi pointed out the cave with a shiver in his voice, “Maybe that’s what we’re looking for”

The heatwave blasted through the blizzard, turning icy cold snow to lukewarm water around them, splashing their clothes as they trudged forward. They would be fine- as long as the Volcarona maintained the heatwave.

As Billi pointed out a Cave, Doug brows furrowed further, before nudding, beginning to advance towards it. The song became louder the closer the came to the cave. When they stood at its mouth, it was almost deafening, the sound bouncing off and echoing through the icy walls and stalactites.

It was somehow even colder inside the cave than out in the blizzard- though given the unnatural ice formations that covered the walls, this probably came as no surprise.

There was only one path leading deeper into the cave.

The water on their clothes seemed to visibly freeze over as they stepped closer inside.

Billi took a breath as the cave was exposed and they entered like mice to cheese. The downside was the fact that the wet clothes now instantly froze even with Volcarona’s heatwave blasting them like a furnace. “It’s so cold in here! I think we might have found...the lair of whatever is doing this,” he let the volcarona heat them so they didn’t freeze to death.

Doug's teeth chattered as they stood in the irresistible cold of the cavern, a feeling of hopelessness beginning to fill his chest. If it was this cold for them, swathed in the heat of a Volcarona, clothed in winter gear...

He swallowed, before beginning to advance into the cave, reaching under his jacket to produce a net ball of his own.

"Go, Mothra." He said, releasing his own Volcarona out into the field to even things out.

The blazing moth took in her surroundings and immediately decided she did not much care for the cold, spreading her wings wide, her flame body heating up the area around along with the other Volcarona's heatwave.

"Let's go find those kids." He said.

The caverns went deep- so far it was unlikely they were entirely natural. The song that had followed them ever since the blizzard had picked up had only gotten louder and louder as they wandered deeper inside.

At some point, the angry song had simmered down to something akin to cold fury, an undercurrent of venom to be found in its dulcet tones.

That alone was creepy enough- but not as creep as the first time they ran into an ice statue.

"... Ugh, that's not funny." He said, distaste obvious in his stone as he stared at the ice statue of a young man, hugging his body tightly as if he were freezing- and yet with a expression that was nothing short of ecstasy.

"It's picked up a heck of a hobby..." He said with a mutter.

They kept walking further.

The ice statues were something made from hell! The younger smaller male kept walking even if it was unnerving. Billi himself felt his heart sink, and depressing feelings overwhelm him, there was an overwhelming feeling of dread that filled him, until the music came to a quick halt. “Uhhh….the music stopped,” that meant there was something wrong. “I’m...worried...the music should still be going,”

Doug paused as he realized that Billi was right- the music was gone.

Left in the cold silence of the caverns, surrounded by nothing but ice statues and darkness, the two young men stood back, weariness preventing their advance.

But the longer they stood there, the longer did the combined heat of their Volcaronas lingered around the cavern.

Droplets of water soon began to drip down upon the floor around them as the icy stalactites began to melt. And then a crack echoed around them.

The arm of the very first ice statue they had seen had fallen off.

It's expression had transformed from sublime ecstasy to bottomless suffering.

Gleeful, dark giggles echoed around them, its echoes moving deeper into the cavern.

"... Hck... After it!" Said Doug, forcing himself to advance despite the fear beating inside his chest.

Ice melted into a frigid drop, pouring onto the pair from the heat of the volcaronas. Naturally the blonde stopped to listen to the cracking, the snapping, the crumbling of ice. One such statue lost an arm in despair or agony….either or it didn’t matter. It was so much like the megolapians, but...then again there had to be a reason. Then again….his partner was flying up ahead.[break][break]

Taking a moment to breathe, Billi returned his volcarona, then released his three ice type pokemon. Frosmoth, Arctozolt, and Bergmite. “Okay….we gotta go quickly,” the cackling got louder poking Billi’s brain as he tried to get it out of his head. “BOLT Beak” it quickly zapped out lightning from it’s beak.
