“Look, I heard from Tom and a certain Ranger friend of mine that during the incident that went down in Fallarbor some time ago when Rocket suddenly came out of nowhere… it was—how do you put it? It was swept under the rug too quickly, for one,” he began, musing as he picked away at more of the trail mix.

“Also, call me grabbing at weird straws here, but don’t you find some of the people… some of the high-ranking people in power a little more than… oh, I don’t know… unusual? By unusual I mean that we have no idea who they are, or how they got there without us knowing. Like, most of the current League know each other by reputation or something like that, right?” he went on, chewing at another mouthful.

It was—too weird. He was reminded of the time he’d hooked up with someone who apparently turned out to be working for Rocket.

Hella yikes.

Taking another mouthful of trail mix, he let the silence settle for a few moments.

“With regards to this… I can safely suggest to contact Tom himself since he was directly there and saw shit go down during that time. He’s the one who pitched the idea to me, and with the way it was glossed over… it was—how do you put this—it was too quickly extinguished,” he mused.

Thinking back to the rest of the HNN articles that had been released, he then remembered something.

“I don’t know if the Commissioner is being framed, either. Remember that article about how… about how the mayor of Fortree was murdered and that the Commissioner was supposedly seen on the camera footage…” he thought out loud again.

“Throwing suspicion on who’s supposed to be like, the top brass for the League? That’s way too far left for her to actually do. Now, I’m not siding with her per se, but the way she was… ‘framed’ for it?” he went on, doing the ‘air quotes’ around the word framed.

“Sounds really fishy to me…”

Unlike Selena, Alexei had been around Hoenn longer than she had, and therefore had more access to older news that she was most likely unaware of at the time.

it is probably because Thomas Benoit and selena's thinking are like two sides of the same coin. considering his background, she would come to accept that his beliefs are shaped by the sound of reason. hers, on the other hand, relies on her intuition and the accumulation of experience.[break][break]

At the mention of the Commissioner attempting to kill the crazy water cultist, he sighed.

“Call me morbid, but if she succeeded, then this shit wouldn’t have happened and she’d have saved herself being humiliated in front of so many people,” he grumbled, huffy again. By ‘shit’, he meant the incident with the Phione.

Right then and there, his phone vibrated with a message.

“Wow, he’s awake,” he remarked, reading the message that Thomas Benoit had sent him, ‘Sending him your way now. Gotta warn you, he's a massive asshole,’ and he chuckled for a few irreverent seconds.

“We got our cover,” Alexei announced to the pinkette. “And I’ve dealt with my own share of shitheads, so this should be fine,” he added a few moments later.

As for visiting a shrine after this shit storm blew over, Alexei burst into another irreverent fit of laughter.

“Not just a week, mind—this guy’s apparently ‘top-notch’, despite being a ‘massive asshole’, as Tom claims to be. We pay well, they’d get more. And Arceus, I do not even want to think of the damage control and the aftermath…” he grumbled as he hid his face in his hands, taking a deep breath to calm himself down.

“Well, for now—let’s hope for the best outcome, shall we?” he went on a few moments later, reaching down for another drawer and bringing out an unopened bottle of tequila and fishing out two shot glasses as well.

“Want a drink?” he offered a few moments later once he’d managed to internally calm himself down.
