as the morning sun rose over the skyline of the city its light glistened off the morning dew and frost that coated the battle arena where kazimir and his zeraora were busy doing some stretches with one another getting ready for the day. kazimir had promised a good friend of his a battle after their previous attempt at one was interrupted and put on hold due to them trying to have it during a large speed dating event held by another friend of his. that and kazimir did receive a letter that was very vague with a threat about breaking his secret base again that he was pretty sure was pretty vague and fake, well mostly believed it anyway.

so now he managed to set a date for said battle to happen as it was something he was pretty excited about, so excited that he texted Zac Ramsay that he'd be ready and waiting for him early in the morning for it. thinking about it now he probably could have pushed the time just a little bit farther back because mornings were cold even with the layers of clothing he had one. his zeraora didn't seem to mind though as it and kazimir were busy reaching down to their feet to finish up their stretches before pumping themselves up with a bit of flexing.

THEME

Zac arrived early at the battle site. But not early enough, as Kazimir was already in the deserted section of the dismantled fairground, warming up with an energetic looking bipedal cat pokemon. "Looks like I underestimated your underhanded ways," Zac said playfully as he approached the pair, who were now stretching. "I thought a half-hour would be enough to beat you here, but it looks like I need to get up pretty early to pull one on you, mate. You're killing me Kaz, it's barely even dawn!"
Zac dropped his bag at the edge of the makeshift arena and tossed out Turtonator. The dragon turtle grumbled, its cruel yellow eyes glaring out from under its shell, which sizzled in the frozen air. "Well since I'm late for the warm-up I'll just have to start hot."
Turtonator uncurled fully and pushed itself up onto two legs. Standing at two metres tall, the turtle was just short of Zac's height. It peered out at the icy landscape with clear annoyance. Little drips of flame trickled from his mouth, scorching the ground and driving back the frost at the edge of the battlefield. Boshi did not do mornings.
"So what are the rules on this one buddy?" Zac asked, doing some light stretching without taking off his two coats. "I was thinking a 3v3 but honestly anything goes. I'm just here to get warm and hang out with you, mate."

"hey what can i say. i'm an early bird." he chuckled as he and his zeraora finished up the last of their stretches while zac had a laugh at losing out on being the early bird. as zac got himself ready and released his pokeball kazimir couldn't help but bump elbows with the bigger guy and share a laught with him as well, "hey ya still got a shot at beating me, that's why we're here right?"

as the turtonator appeared and stood up tall the zeraora slowly walked up to it and stared at it with curious eyes. it wasn't until small drips of flame left its mouth and burned the ground beneath it that simba's expression change along with a yelp of surprise as he gave the turtle dragon a scowl.

kaz pondered zac's question as in truth he sort of didn't really plan out these battles in depth a lot. his suggestion was probably for the better as it sounded short enough for a quick battle and enough to see how each of them fared against one another. he's only known that he's had a turtonator after all. "y'know what three on three sounds good. looks like our boys are already raring to go either way."

he jabbed his finger towards the battlefield where his zeraora was already on all fours yowling at his trainer to come over to his side. "may the best man win." he left with a wink for the big guy as he got to his side and clapped his hands together, "how about we let ya get the first move, since ya did come late an all!"

"First move? Well that's pretty good of 'ya. Okay Let's get this thing happening!"
Something changed in the frozen air. The focus of both trainers and their Pokemon narrowed in that moment, as the battle began.
Turtonator stomped forward across the frozen ground. His movements were so slow compared to the lithe Zeraora.
Stomp...stomp...stomp! Boshi approached the electric cat, who was dutifully waiting for Zac's Pokemon to make the first attack.
You only get one first impression right? So lets make it count.
"Boshi! It's time to loosen up a bit!" Zac ordered, and Turtonator stopped in front of the feline. The dragon turtle glared at his opponent. He puffed up with anger, furious at being woken up, let alone having to fight! Heat boiled around him, and the Pokemon's shell snapped. Once, twice, a dozen times, as the single, massive plate on his back broke down into rough segments. Turtonator stood up straighter, freed from the worst of the shell's restrictive form. Shrugging off a blow would be harder now, but that didn't matter. Now he was faster.
"Wonderful! Now that the stretching is done, it's time for some cardio! Get that shell ready and catch that cat!"
A gleeful flame dribbled from Boshi's mouth. He still hadn't attacked right? His segmented shell began to glow with trapped heat, sizzling, as if it were a bomb ready to explode. Steam hissed from the gaps between his plates, and with his shell now a living bomb, the dragon turtle threw himself at his opponent.

both trainer and pokemon watched the turtonator as its flames flared up and the sound of cracking could be heard coming from it. "let's not rush in just a bit yet Simba, let's tease them a little bit okay!" from the way zac's pokemon was moving it was probably preparing some kind of counter attack and kazimir wasn't going to fall for something like that. still his zeraora was more prone to actually diving in so he might as well and try to nudge it in a different direction after all. "so give them a aura sphere!"

with a loudly growing growl the thunder cat as it put its paws together and formed a small glowing ball that started to expand. as it grew the zeraora stared down the turtonator and locked eyes with it, its glare throwing daggers at it before it threw its aura sphere at the dragon turtle. it wasn't content there as it let out a yowl and slammed its claws into the ground and electricity danced forward as it discharged "hey i didn't say to do that simba!" kazimir called out in shock that his pokemon was deciding to act without him even saying anything, it was usually more trained than that.

The cat didn't dodge.
The cat didn't dodge?
The massive, armoured turtle rushed it and it just...stood there?
Zeraora's AURA SPHERE shot towards Turtonator, and the dragon turtle barrelled straight through the attack. The powerful blast broke against his segmented body, arresting some of Boshi's momentum, but he was too close. Zeraora started to prepare a second move as Turtonator ran straight into him, setting off the SHELL TRAP in a blast of smoke and steam.
The battlefield was obscured now, and Turtonator retreated into the steam. HIDING

"He's preparing another attack!" Zac shouted. He watched as the Zeraora crackled with generated electricity. "Get ready Boshi!"
The cat slammed its claws into the ground as it DISCHARGED its lightning, which shot through the smoke cloud. Zac couldn't see Turtonator, but the groan of pain was enough to tell him that the attack had hit. it wasn't easy to dodge such a broad attack.

Inside the smoke, something started to glow a fierce red.

Turtonator was hit by AURA SPHERE
Zeraora didn't dodge and was hit by SHELL TRAP
The battlefield was covered in smoke and steam
Turtonator hid in the SMOKE
Turtonator was hit by DISCHARGE

the power of the shell trap was something else that it almost sent the poor zeraora to his knees by its surprise. even if it didn't kick him out of the fight then it would at least cloud his vision as the smoke from their colliding attacks made the perfect cover as the large dragon suddenly disappeared into it despite its size. that wouldnt' save it from the flying electricity as both kazimir and simba could ear its pained cries because of it and were relieved that their tactics weren't a total waste.

"ok let's follow their lead simba. stay low and lets bulk ourselves up yeah?!" kazimir called out and his zeraora went to work hoping into the smoke as well to use as a cover just like his opponent. while something red glowed from inside the cloud a low growl could be heared as the electric cat was busy flexing his muscles to bulk himself up and increase his body's fortitude and strength just in case of a counter attack. they couldn't be too careful by the looks of things.

THEME

Turtonator was feeling the hurt. The Aura Sphere had made a dent in his defences, but that Discharge? Well, there was some serious voltage in that Zeraora. The dragon turtle's shell glowed an ominous red with the waiting shell trap. His plates were okay, but his internals were bruised, his skin still numb from the shock wave he's just weathered.
Turtonator swung with his club-like tail, FLAILing at the air and spreading the smoke as he stomped backwards towards where he though the cat was. He was seriously injured, but his attacks were only made more powerful by the desperation.
If his massive mace of a tail collided with the enemy it might all be over. Turtonator's tail had enough power to crush straight through steel and concrete right now.

Turtonator is BADLY DAMAGED
Turtonator used FLAIL
Turtonator's FLAIL is at maximum power due to low HP
Turtonator walks backwards through the smoke, trying to hit Zeraora

little by little the smoke was clearing and the battlefield could be seen more and more. in the middle a flash of yellow fur could be seen as the zeraora kept his ears peeled for the sound of his approaching foe, luckily for him it didn't take long as his ears picked up the sound of footsteps, wild footsteps, and his attention was focused on the direction it was coming from.

kazimir could see form the sidelines their enemy suddenly walk backwards towards them, its tail swinging wildly with no rhyme or reason to it. were they going in blind? "in front of you simba! counter them with close combat!" kazimir shouted out in order to give his partner a plan of defense. it was risky and would probably take them out of the fight but it was better than nothing.

as the thunder cat focused his attetnion in front of him he soon saw the shadow of the large dragon turtle from within the smoke approaching him and he was quick to move forward and intercept. its fists were raised as it did what it could to counter the flailing with its close combat, aiming punches and kicks at the turtle's shell while it itself was hit with strikes. it wasn't until it was struck in the face that it was sent to the floor twitching in pain but still very conscious. "simba! hold on just a bit longer man!

THEME

Turtonator emerged swinging from the smoke, and the whole battle turned into a shitshow. Zeraora darted in and pummelled Boshi with a brutal flurry of punches. Zac winced as he heard the crunches of CLOSE COMBAT obliterating the glowing shell sections on one side of Turtonator's body. Unfortunately for the cat, he had just activated the second SHELL TRAP, and as the shell chunks broke they exploded in steam and fire.
    The blast knocked Zeraora back, right into a crushing blow of FLAIL that sent the enemy ragdolling across the battlefield.
  Turtonator was consumed by another cloud of debris, and Zac heard a heavy thud as the Pokemon collapsed. The blowback from exploding his own shattered shell, combined with the CLOSE COMBAT had been too much for the dragon turtle.

  On the other side of the field, Kazimir's Zeraora struggling to recover. Two shell traps and a fully powered flail are hard to shake off for the strongest of Pokemon, and this one looked built for speed more than endurance.

"You did a damn good job buddy," Zac said, as he returned Boshi. "Couldn't have asked for more. We'll be stopping by the hot springs on the way back, yeah?" Zac nestled the ball in his bag and drew his next Pokemon. He sent out his second, and there was a rush of spray as a BLASTOISE emerged onto the field. "Keep your head on Megs. That cat might not be out of it yet! Hit it with a WATER PULSE!"
A torrent of turbulent water shot towards Zeraora.

the fireworks of the battle came to a climax as each of simba's punches triggered a small explosion from the shell of the turtonator and finally the tail of it managed to send the zeraora flying. "hey simba why don't you-" before kazimir could reach out with the cat's pokeball to return it he was met with a hand outstretched telling him to stay in place. simba wasn't ready to go down just yet, even as zac sent out a blastoise that was fresh for a fight didn't seem to be that much of a problem for the zeraora as it charged forward.

kazimir winced when he saw the water pulse coming a mile away and his pokemon take it head on and fall flat on his back completely unconscious from the attack. guess he really was on his last legs from that last fight. "hey good job out there simba. take a rest. and good job to you zac. guess your little turtle friend really packs a punch." the blonde complimented the gigner as he returned his pokemon and washed a hand over his belt to pick out a good contender for the battle. despite the draw he was having a bit of fun apparant from the smile on his face, hopefully zac didn't disappoint.

"hope your ready for round two, cause we're gonna get serious now, so how about a wager by the way, loser buys the winner breakfast huh? working up a real appetite right now honestly." with that wager put forth he sent out his kommo-o that let out a roar as it poppoed onto the field and and punched the air in front of it towards the blastoise releasing a scale shot from its arm at the water turtle pokemon.

THEME

The stream of scales hit Megs, scattering and slashing at her shell. A few of the shards shot wide, cutting into her arm, and the turtle retreated into her shell with a groan of pain and a flash of blood.
"Nice try Kaz, but Megs is pretty rough and tough, aren't you girl?" In answer, the Blastoise grumbled inside her shell. The rest of the scales clattered harmlessly against her thick plate.
It was time to go on the offensive.
The banks of snow around the arena had been melted by Turtonator's explosive display, and Megs pulled the freezing waters up and under herself in a writhing column of water. The wall of water broke like a wave, sending Blastoise crashing towards Kommo-o in a surge of icy slush.

"yeah! she's a real toughie that one!" kaz complimented his opponent's pokemon as he could see it draw back into its shell to keep itself safe from the scales that were now bouncing off of its hardened shell like they were foam darts. from the looks of it not a lot was going to get through that big shield unless they got in close, and knowing the skills of a blastoise that might be easier said than done, kaz was impressed. "still don't count out kiryu here, dude's one of our heaviest hitters! and knows how to take a hit, don'tcha!?"

at the sight of the blastoise calling up a wall of icy water to crash down onto the dragon its two fists were brought up and in front of its body as a green protective aura expanded into a barrier around it, letting the slush wash all over its protect and meeting the blastoise head on with a rattling of its tail. the barrier around it shattered as its clanging scales echoed all around and a shockwave was released from the dragon's body right at the turtle, kiryu himself curious if that shell could protect its wearer from loud noises.

THEME

The Kommo-o certainly did know how to take a hit. The dragon's green shield parted Megs's wave of frozen slush, and as the Blastoise surfed past it launched a discordant, clanging blast of noise at the hunkered turtle.
    The sound wave hit the blinded Megs, and she rang like a gong. She popped out, eyes crossed and gasping for breath as the clangorous soundwaves shook through her shell.
    "Get it together!" Zac called, but the Blastoise was still stumbling, confused by the blow. This could well be the end of the battle right here. Zac called out desperately, trying to help his wobbling Pokemon aim her next attack. "He's right in front of you! Just blast him with those cannons!"
    Megs aimed roughly in front of her and launched twin WATER PULSES at Kommo-o. They jets were strong enough to push her back a little ways, but with her shaky vision they were desperate shots.
