There are safeguards, yes, but not enough to undermine the efforts of an enthusiastic script kiddie or someone with serious talent. Only the repercussions of their actions, if caught, serve as a real deterrent. Because of this, a certain brat has no issues jimmying her way into places she doesn't belong.

But Silph Co. is not the League. Here, Fernando has full say over how the company conducts itself. That means measures are put into place based off necessity and future proofing, rather than whatever is convenient or available. It's the only way to maintain excellence, something he prides himself on, a staple to why everyone wants to work for Silph Co. despite their bad reputation for work life balance.

In regards to Cyber Security, their new endeavors focus on discovering or refining new technologies. Allowing these secrets to leak would spell disaster to their bottom line, allowing competitors to steal all their research for a fraction of the cost. Such a tragedy destroys whatever competitive advantage Silph Co. may have on the market, thus it's imperative this never happens. That's one of the big— but by no means only— reasons Fernando's initiative has been to push their digital services.

Unfortunately, no one would ever know by looking at Silph Co.'s network. Sure, nothing essential or important seems vulnerable from the surface, but that doesn't mean no one can worm their way in. It's just the less important stuff seems to easiest to trespass into. Their open portal and website, to a degree, seems easy enough to break into. From there, there's plenty of things to try to penetrate.

The only question is what?

Yui was in her room, typing quietly away in her room. She took special care to make sure her keystrokes weren't too loud less she wake up the other gremlins who were residing in her orphanage and they blow the lid on her whole operation. Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail and her posture was horrid as the glow from the laptop filled her bunk in the bunk bed. She had a very very special mission tonight, getting into the league's database just to see if she could. It wouldn't be much longer now, her porygon-z was zooming around in her laptop checking for any kind of strange code that might tip them off to her presence and correcting it. She smiled at it and it just stared blankly at her in return, that means he was smiling at her too. [break][break]

Success! Porygon z rematerialized out of the computer and nudged himself onto her face trying to receive his reward for helping her. She patted him on his head and began to feel the adrenaline rush of what she just did. The league itself wasn't immune to her own talents, what else would be larger than the league? There were almost no potential harder challenges...except.. She looked at her pokeball for codey and had an idea..silph co. What exactly she was looking for? No idea, she just wanted access plain and simple just to see if she could do it. No, she KNEW she could do it. Porygon-z stared at her blankly once again, only offering a small bzzzz noise as it watched her open her laptop again and began to type. One of the children woke up and watched her for a few moments silently before falling back asleep. After a couple hours of working, Yui finally made a dent and wiggled her way into silph's server. Unknowingly she set off some alarms to a certain person who would not be forgiving about this.

[attr="class","spiral"]There is no room for improvement when playing your best hand. Anyone who can conquer your strongest barricade can do so without leaving a trace. Which is why Silph Co. intentionally leaves gaps. These traps serve as good bait for those who think they can weigh in way below their weight class.

An easy way in? Hook.

Letting them brute force past some common grade securities protocols? Line.

Shut off their escape route and harvest their meta data to track them down. Sinker.

Yui’s grit allows her to bypass some basic safeguards Silph Co. has in place. They still need to make it believable, so the young hacker still has her work cut out for her. She spends hours cracking away at it, utilizing her Porygon as they break through a multitude of holes that seem more lazy than intention.

What she finds is the central hub for the traffic that’s based at a basic level. Stuff such as e-mails between lower level employees, basic web traffic for users, and anything else that isn’t regularly encrypted. This information flows freely to Silph’s IT and therefore it’s as readable as if Yui worked for that department as an auditor.

There’s plenty of information but nothing substantial.

However, being able to get her feet wet shows her that there’s still levels she has yet to break through. Encryptions, denied access, security levels. There’s a whole new world ripe for the taking. It just requires the right credentials. Without them, she’ll have to jimmy a few locks.

Trying every basic combination in the book of best practices will earn her a little keep. How long will it take her? Hours on end. But, progress comes slowly but surely.

All the meanwhile, Silph Co. is aware and watching. Like an eager Meowth waiting for its prey to leave its mousehole, the predator buys its time, eager to jump but disciplined enough to wait until it’s time to strike.

So she had finally made her way in! Success! She had gained access to basic level things, web traffic information, all of this could be potentially useful, maybe sold to Silph's competitors to gain insight from this information? But that type of thing didn't interest her, she didn't hate Silph co, in fact she was thankful for pokeballs since it allowed her to have special friends in her Pokémon. So no information trading for her, not like there was anything crazy really just basic employees complaining about nontrivial stuff like the weather and the stock markets and stuff. Yui decided to ignore all of the white noise, she hunkered down and began to get to work. She got denied access several times, jimmying the lock was not going to be an effective method. Surely they had captcha fail safe to check for bots and doing it by hand was out of the question because she'd literally go insane and not make any progress. So what was the wee lass going to do? Well, those emails from earlier seemed to give her little tidbits of info that were...interesting. Gossip here, gossip there surely these people's accounts were not as secure as the rest of the server.

[break][break] She got to work trying to steal one of their employee accounts to see if she could then work her way up the chain of command to get a higher clearance level for herself. Surely a supervisor account was within her grasp for someone of her skill. Porygon z stared blankly at the code noticing some suspicious code but nothing too out of the ordinary. She tapped away at her computer, pissing off the the other child who got angry at her and offered a hushed "shhh" noise. She stared at the child and gave him a scary stare that made him reel back into his respective bed.

she was NOT going to let him ruin this.
