It was better to bring a backpack if you were going grocery shopping. What didn't fit in the backpack could be kept in the grocery bags and tied to the backpack straps.

Sure, it looked a little clunky but it was less strain on the arms if you had to carry them long distance. Plus it left your hands free to engage with as many wild pokemon as you could, provided you had the balls.

It wasn't too long a stroll from the Upper District back to his apartment in the Lower district but he'd catch all he could on the way.

Today was just a day to wander around, Mercutio had no duties to attend to. Nothing to really do here. So why not wander around instead? The tall man was used to the looks he was given, his underbite still noticeable and all he did was adjust his glasses as he walked along. Even though his...boss was nowhere around, he kept himself straight as he walked. Even alone he had to keep up appearances for the sake of the Apricot family. After all, if people learned just who he served then it would be easy for them to think that the hired staff by the family were slobs or just didn't care if they were seen slouching around as they walked. Looks....it all went down to looks sadly.

Holding in the sigh, he merely continued along. Only to notice something interesting, a man with a backpack...were grocery bags tied to the straps? That was a..interesting sight.

"Need any help sir?" Mercutio asked as he came to a halt, allowing there to be a comfortable distance between the two.

As he paced himself to a slower stroll back home part of him wished he'd just used Kadabra to teleport to the grocers and back home to save himself some the trouble.

'The trouble' being if he walked home at normal speed he'd likely encounter very few wild pokémon because of the lacking distance. So slowing down meant more wild encounters but it also meant needlessly carrying around the extra weight of several plastic bags of food.

Before he encountered his pokémon he encountered another man, a redhead at that. It seemed they were more common in Hoenn. "Help with the bags?" It must have been the bags not because he looked like he was struggling to carry them; his hands were free and his back was straight.

No, it was because he probably looked dumb as hell carrying them that way.

"It's just a little extra weight." He fished out two collapsed pokéballs from his pocket, one empty and one not. "I need my hands free, just in case." Just then, he could see movement in the shifting of the tall grass.

A nod left him in response to the question. Well if they were fine then that was good. It was something that had caught his attention and he figured he'd ask. The reasoning for this was revealed to be quite simple.

"I see now." Mercutio replied.

They were trying to do two things at once, pick up their groceries while also catching pokemon. Nothing wrong with that. Then the grass rustled and his attention shifted to it. At first he noticed the large spider pokemon moving through the grass, he could hear it chittering as it moved. There was...a few moments of considering it. It was a certainly a intimidating pokemon to those that weren't fans of spiders or bug types in general. However...as he thought about it longer, Mercutio started to be more against it. Nothing against the spider, but he was having a hard time imagining it alongside his other pokemon and interacting in the Apricot HOusehold.

Something else made the grass move,something small....and a offwhitish color? The fairy type soon showed up and he already knew he didn't want that one. From what he heard, Milcrey evolved into rather pretty pokemon. It wouldn't fit. So he glanced over to the fellow red head.

"Either one you desire? Neither have my eye enough to go for." Mercutio explained.

Seemingly, there was a first time for everything.
He'd had a pokémon attack him with killer intent ().
He'd had to use words to recruit a pokémon ().
He'd even had one convince him to capture it ().

But until today, he'd never had a pokémon attack him with the intent to be captured.

Coming out of the bush and walking right up to him was a Milcery. Probably smelling the sweets and dairy on his person it hopped on his leg smiling up at him.

Cautiously smiling back he took a glance at the other redhead present who seemed uninterested in the spinarak-looking pokémon going by.

Looking to the burly fellow sheepishly the Ranger tried to shake the Milcery from his leg but it stuck to him with glee making noises of excitement when he trust his leg about.

"Well that's one." Looking down at the pokémon he smiled back widely. Through his smile he gave it a kind and fair warning it was probably too young to understand. "I'm gonna hit you with a pokéball later!"

Crimsen attempted to befriend Milcery!

Mercutio couldn't help but chuckle at the interaction.

"They seem fond of you already." MErcutio remarked, watching the man shake their leg to try and break free of the small pokemon. "How many more to go since this is one?"

Not a bad question, it was just the only one he could think of. Mercutio didn't really know what he could do in this situation. What to say or do. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt for him to catch something out here?

"As many as I can carry, my man." When compressed down to pocket size pokéballs were small enough to fit in even a tight pocket by the half-dozens. "What about you? This is a good spot to catch something worth training."

He answered the bigger redhead and soon enough a second pokémon showed up. With the Milcery still stuck his leg it made sense other pokémon would come sniffing about to see what smelled so good.

The weary Clefable took him back years to exploring Mt. Moon as a boy. Knowing it would run the moment it saw the source of the scent was coming from a human the ranger made swift precautions; calling in a Croagunk to exploit its weaknesses.

Croagunk used TOXIC; Clefable was badly poisoned!
Clefable used POUND!
Croagunk used BULLET PUNCH; its Super Effective!

As much as he didn't want to hurt the Clefable, it was a high priority target. One he couldn't afford to let slip though his fingers.

He threw the Premiere Ball to claim it, aware that the number of balls he had was near endless but chances to catch one of the Kanto Fairy-types were rare.

"Originally I was just wandering, though you are right. This is a good place to add to one's team..." Mercutio replied. "I haven't really thought about catching more mons.."

Now he had tried to get some mons at Jagged Peaks, the idea was to go for a fighting pokemon. And yet he found himself not really sure on what he wanted other than that. Some people say a pokemon reflects aspects of their trainer. Well...both of his pokemon had his underbite but that was the norm for their species. So they naturally had that...did that really reflect him?

Thoughts were disturbed as two pokemon appeared, his eyes widened slightly at the Clefable. It was a lovely pokemon but a highly sought after one. There was a stronger desire to catch it but he didn't react quick enough, the clefable was soon in battle and the man let a small breathe leave him. Best to let the man get the clefable who was actually looking to expand their team.

A sound reached his ears, a sort of jingle like tune of notes. His green gaze glanced over to where the clefable had just been taken down, jumping from the grass in a panic was a bug pokemon. Though this one looked to be wear attire; granted it wasn't but that's how the markings on it's body made it look. A high collar bounced with their movements and they rushed away from the croguank and Clefable, perhaps it had been traveling with the larger pokemon? Safety was often had when something was bigger and much stronger than you. The reddish pokemon rushed to Mercutio, hiding behind them as they vibrated in fear. Well...it seemed this little guy might not have taken notice that it hid behind a human rather than another pokemon.

Stepping to the side a couple of steps in order to get a better look at the small bug, the Kricketot made a startled noise and rushed to get behind him. Mercutio tested this once more and the same thing happened. The bug type would rush to follow his legs and hide behind them. It must've been awfully young...was that clefable taking care of it or just ensuring it got back to it's own family? Bending down, Mercutio held his hands to the pokemon. A jingle of sound and the small bug was quick to try and get in his arms; stubby arms didn't reach for so they were having trouble heaving themself up to their hands. So the large man merely scopped the small pokemon up and held them close to his chest.

They seemed to calm somewhat....well....this was a new one.

He couldn't count how many days he'd slept in the forest of Viridian City.

If it was a caterpie before him, he didn't even need a pokéball to catch it.

With a finger he firmly pressed into the body of the Milcery until only the slightest residue of creme was left on his fingertip. Approaching the Caterpillar Pokémon quickly he scooped it up before it could get away.

Holding it like a Unovan Football he put the sticky finger in the Caterpie's face until it began to softly nip at the sweetness. While it snacked on the tiny amount on his finger he rubbed it to calm down. When it was finished it seemed unsure of if it wanted to leave the human or not, only to notice the Croagunk staring at it hungrily.

In fear it stuck the human crawling along to the Ranger's back and staying there to hide.

Crimsen attempted to befriend Caterpie!

"What kind of pokémon were you looking for? Maybe I could recommend a better hunting grounds for you."

The large diggersby was impressive, but the amount of digging it would need to be wouldn't make it suitable for life in a fancy estate; the amount of baths needed would probably be torture to the half ground type. So he wasn't going to put it in a situation it probably wouldn't like. The kricketot noticed what the stranger was doing and the jingle like sound left them as they reached, wanting a yummpy snack but Mercution kept them close.

"I've yet...to figure that out myself." Mercutio answered. "I did go looking for a fighting type at Jagged Pass but, what I found didn't interest me enough. Truthfully, I hadn't even considered any bug types but I like the sound of this little guy. It also looks like they're wearing a fancy waist coat."

Glancing down at the bug type, the kricketot glanced up. Holding up round stubs as they seemed to understand they were being talked about. That and the thought of this pokemon being young and hanging around with that Clefable pulled at his heart strings.
